Sony’s promoting Astro Bot at the annual Ani-Com & Games Expo in Hong Kong. There are a number of conventions all around Asia this weekend, and Team Asobi’s adorable mascot is appearing at all of them; he’s also being promoted heavily at PlayStation’s massive ChinaJoy 2024 booth in Shanghai.
It suggests that the platform holder is eager to give this game a monstrous marketing push when it launches on 6th September, which is promising because it’s often been accused of poorly promoting its platformers, like Ratchet & Clank and Sly Cooper. The enthusiasm for Astro Bot is off the scale here on Push Square, so we’re hoping the sales numbers match.
As one of the operators of esports tournament Evo, Sony also used its clout to run commercials for Astro Bot’s upcoming adventure during the main event’s broadcast. With the release right around the corner now, we’re eager to see what else it has in store.

Can’t wait to play as Astro again!
Astro Bot and hot girls, what more do you need?
GOTY for me. I am already sensing it.
Yup, that tumbnail got my attention and im very much looking forward to Astro.
I think we should get a special edition dual sense for this game.
@Kanji-Tatsumi i need them to eat more!
@nomither6 I know you're not intentionally being mean, but let's not criticise people like this please! 🙏
I'm cheap. Last game I bought full price or day 1 was Hades. But I think I'll splash out for this.
@lechugajr Big! They should put this on the box.
@OldGamer999 would be so east to make an awsome controller for this game and would be an instant buy from me and i never buy ltd ed controllers.
After Concord’s frosty reception, Sony had to slam the emergency booth babe button.
Look at it! Look At It! LOOK AT IT!
I WANT ALL OF YOU TO LOOK AT IT!!!
@Kidfunkadelic83
Yep the whites and light blue and an Astro bot on the push pad. Simple and amazing.
I’m genuinely curious to know the marketing science behind the choice of that red controller.
@Kanji-Tatsumi. What more do you need. A irish cream alcohol beverages.peporoni 🍕 pizza.or 🍔 cheeseburger.with some passion fruit or lemonade or orange juice etc.word up son
I'd rather play with one of the Astro-Girls^^
Sony using Eve and Tifa to sell Astro Bot.
They need to bring that incredible Astro Bot pinball to other countries. Maybe set it up along with the demo at various stores around the world. I would gladly drive out of my way to try that thing and the demo.
@Zenos Pretty girls indeed quite nasty to go after Western women and telling them they look unhealthy.
Not all women are not all build like Asian women but calling someone unhealthy because they are a little bigger is quite disrespectful. I have seen a lot of beautiful girls that are not completely perfectly slim.
In my personal opinion you are just as rude as the other guy making people feel bad and saying they are unhealthy because they are not as slim as a model or have a different build.
@get2sammyb my bad
@Zenos thick thighs saves lives
No need to convince me. I'll be picking up this game for sure.
Damn... Xbox marketing must be sobbing right now haha
I’m all for pretty young ladies tastefully dressed like those two, promoting a product. It gives the girls a paycheck and chance at modeling if that’s what they like to do. Plus everyone likes to look at smiling, attractive people. It’s human nature, and why for a long time Hollywood movies were so popular.
Good job, Sony!
@nomither6 na mate they are slim and this is properly expected in eastern countries. The english countries have the sizes that you might like haha.
The thumbnail got my attention!
Wow, just realized this is out in only 6 weeks (maybe 7 weeks, months are weird) which isn’t really long at all now. Wish it had a 2 player focus like Sackboys Adventure or R&CA41, would be day 1 for us, but I think I may wait on this one, September is early enough to get a Black Friday deal and late enough to wait for a BF Buy 1 get 1 half off sale.
Now that's what I call a special edition lol but seriously hope they release a limited edition controller.
"Do you come with the game?"
-"Oh you, teehee!"
"Do you come with the game?"
-"Oh you, teehee!"
That’s one way to get the nerds to line up, ha
Preordered and paid for one of my favorite platformers
Kind of interesting that Sony of all companies is the one reviving the "Booth Babe" lol. And in China of all places....
@Jimmer-jammer Red controller. China Joy.....kinda answers itself, right?
I'm paying attention all right.🥰
@Vaako007
The models are pretty but FOR ME, they are a bit too thin. I prefer a woman that's more like Camille Kostek.
Just because someone isn't as thin as these models doesn't mean you want someone obese btw, which I think you're implying. You're also kind of dissing the entire West by implying we're all obese.
I hope this full version of Astrobot is more challenging than the included console game, that felt more like a showpiece for the controller.
I did have a lot of fun playing it though, but I just need more difficulty.
@NEStalgia The simplest answer is usually the best answer 😂
"because it’s often been accused of poorly promoting its platformers, like Ratchet & Clank and Sly Cooper"
Actually. Sony usually gave cool marketing for R&C and showcase the series at multiple gaming events. Like this tv ads for R&C 1 for example
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HKCR_Qa3BXo
Unfortunately, Rift Apart was released when Covid still everywhere and limits offline marketing. But fortunately it still sold well.
Sly Cooper also got nice marketing like this tv ads for example.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jhhKU-zSMjQ&pp=ygUWc2x5IGNvb3BlciBjb21tZXJjaWFsIA%3D%3D
Even the commercial flop but critically success Tearaway got cool ads
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VNP2rUFhX0w&pp=ygUTVGVhcmF3YXkgY29tbWVyY2lhbA%3D%3D
I think the only Sony platformer that doesn't get enough marketing was Puppeteer. It's a tragedy to see amazing game like Puppeteer sold so poorly 😔
Sorry ladies, but this was already my most anticipated game at this point. Your services are appreciated but not needed.
Astro’s Playroom is probably one of the most impressive games on PS5 to be honest.
Not until you bring it (or Rescue Mission) to VR2.
If this game is similar to the first - a relentless exercise in PS product placement - a huge marketing campaign seems like gilding the lily.
@deadfred77 when the gameplay is so good does it matter?
Still my most wanted game
Have to admit, the girl on the right especially, is perfect for me, adorable, feminine. Astro bot yh..
@Mikey856 Ikr. Let Sony deal with the marketing while us gamers have fun with the game.
@deadfred77 This is like ignoring Mario Kart and Smash has fun and solid gameplay then claim both series are just huge marketing campaign for Nintendo to showcase their properties.
@glassmusic dammit I can’t post a gif? Perfect reference 10/10

"NOOOOOOOOOOOO! HOW COULD SONY DO THIS? UNREALISTIC BODY SIZES! I'M LITERALLY SHAKING RIGHT NOW!"
~ Someone on Twitter probably.
Waisted money. It already has the sky high waiting list of people to jump in it.
Reminds me of the glory days of e3 where you’d find a scantily clad huer at every booth
@TruestoryYep yeah the fatties amongst us need to realise THEY have the unrealistic body size lol
@NEStalgia Booth Babes never went away. So there is no reviving needed. Asian countries are the places that still do it, so it makes sense for them to show in china.
While fair I do think heavy marketing for it isn't ideal but they have to some how I guess. Also the booths seem cool. Thing is that marketing wouldn't get me to pick up the game or try it even if still would buy a platformer because why not it's a good game. Too many eyes judging, no thank you.
They should know how big of an audience we are open to this game not over market it and go 'well you wanted it'.
Like they should know better they have the data on how big an audience between other similar to Astro of platformers or other types of games they may not have a good enough amount as it differs and they don't have all of us tracked for the types that would buy it or others. I know they don't do THAT deep of research or paying attention, only few would and they aren't likely to.
They may use data but if they can understand the feel or motives of a customer then they know for sure how sizeable we are not just oh size and that's it. Whether Astro's Playroom, whether the PSVR stuff, whether Playroom Camera app on PS4, whether other games comparable of audience appeal to Astro on particular angles. But will they do that, NO. Would I probably not but if I wanted to I'd pay attention enough to the factors on a certain level of that just encase.
But on a general sense they should know for the thousands/early millions of us vocal or not on social media who will buy it and not to over do it and be stupid about marketing it/wasting so much money on marketing besides it's development cost or physical release or other factors.
They know small amounts of money count, they know were a sizeable audience for platformers, colourful games, ambitious games then the mostly other ones we see coming out from them to make most of their audience money besides the PS store and third parties and so on.
Or else they are just as blind and stupid as I can always expect they will be then blame the audience when it's their way of handling things and to balance it out and understand what to ACTUALLY pay attention to of factors. If I can think this up, they should know it's the case for the business instead of blaming audiences and not thinking with their heads enough of any warning signs then just oh 1 million sales hmm not good enough, yeah yeah.
@OldGamer999 Especially since we got a special edition controller for Concord 💀
@BeerIsAwesome According to Xbox fanatics
@Walrus_Slapper Xbox doesn’t have anything worth marketing, especially in China
@GreatAuk understood. I did make a lot of assumptions there. And I projected based on my experiences. I’m not dismissing the entire west. My home country (USA) is very unhealthy. Both men and women statistically are larger than their worldly counterparts. People I know routinely will say someone is too small whom is fine in reality. So that’s my perspective. My apologies.
I’m glad that PS fans will have something exclusive to play this year. This game just isn’t for me. Just like little big planets weren’t for me. Despite being good games. From what they have shown it appears it will be better than the PS5 demo game.
