Developer Unknown Worlds revealed the existence of a Subnautica sequel earlier this year, which should comfort fans of tense, eerie survival games. In more distressing news, it seems the developer has been surreptitiously sneaking screenshots of the sequel into the original game, like some malevolent underwater sea creature.
Having evolved that horrible membrane that lets them see better underneath the sea, fans quickly noted some additions to the title's in-game database (thanks, Eurogamer). First thought to be just another aquatic oddity, these additions have since been confirmed by moderators on Reddit to be from the upcoming sequel, Subnautica 2.
It's a pretty cool way to build hype for a sequel, updating its predecessor and waiting to see if the most hardcore amongst your fans notice. Do you have the fortitude required to play Subnautica? Are you looking forward to the sequel? Let us know in the comments section below.

I'm playing Subnautica. staying alive in these games is much more difficult than in real life. managing oxygen, hunger, inventory, making new batteries... very painful.
I've found a lot of cool blueprints but making them looks impossible.
these survival games can get boring real fast. the fans are really patient and must love the game so much.
I was thinking about No Man's Sky but now I'm not sure anymore. I don't have the fortitude required.
@CthulhuFhtagn Starting out can be rough in Subnautica, but once you've hit a couple of breakthroughs, it becomes so much easier. After a while, you're not really worrying about your basic needs as much anymore, and it becomes about building a base and vehicles that let you push ever deeper into the depths and uncover its mysteries.
I'm not a survival fan in general but Subnautica is definitely a game worth sticking with.
@CthulhuFhtagn @Ainu20 I usually like games that leave you to figure things out on your own, but that needs to be carefully balanced. Beginning of Subnautica is rough. It does get better if you can push through, but they needed better onboarding.
If you guys happen to own a PSVR2 headset and a slightly capable PC, you really should consider trying Subnautica in VR with the Submerged mod (mod that gives you motion controls).
It's one of the most immersive gaming experiences ever, I promise! Even RE7 on PSVR wasn't as frightening as diving ever deeper into the abyss in a tiny submersible.
What a game Subanautica was. I'd love a full-blown sequel
