Between compilations like Capcom Arcade Stadium and its sequel, Capcom Beat ‘Em Up Bundle, and Capcom Fighting Collection, the Japanese publisher has being doing an amazing job making its renowned brawlers playable on contemporary hardware, like PS5 and PS4. That strategy will reach its zenith with the release of the Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection later this year, a highly anticipated bundle which will include the likes of Marvel vs Capcom 2 and The Punisher.
But the organisation doesn’t want to stop there.
“We have a lot of other legacy fighting games that we know fans out there really want them to be re-released again on modern platforms and the feeling is mutual on the development side,” producer Shuhei Matsumoto told IGN, as transcribed by our colleagues at Nintendo Life. “What we can do right now is try to re-release them and so people who may have never had the chance to play those games get familiarised with them and from there hopefully we can go on to bigger and better things.”
Re-releases not only preserve the legacy of classics, but they also open them up to an entire new audience. So, it would be safe to assume that the success of the Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection could theoretically lead to an entirely new entry – especially if publisher Capcom has huge sales numbers of the bundle to back up its ambition.
One game we’d personally like to see brought back from the archives is Rival Schools. Originally released in arcades in 1997 and then ported to the PS1 a year later, there’s been very little movement in this franchise for decades. A sequel, named Project Justice, did deploy worldwide on Dreamcast in 2001, but the series has largely been abandoned since then.
The original Rival Schools included minigames and a complete dating sim mode in Japan, but localisation issues meant this never released worldwide. It’d be great to see that finally translated after all these years, as we’ve always wanted to play it ever since seeing screenshots in Official PlayStation Magazine.
Other classic Capcom fighters we’d like to see re-released include JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, an awesome adaptation of the anime, which was briefly available on the PS3 before being delisted in 2014. And it’d be great to see other licensed crossovers like the Nintendo Wii’s acclaimed Tatsunoko vs Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars released for a wider audience as well.

CVS collection will be next I feel, especially given how they're still working with SNK. After that, yeah, Rival Schools/Project Justice makes the most sense
RIVAL SCHOOLS!
Yes I did say Rival Schools
It would be great to see Tatsunoko v Capcom get free of its Wii shackles with a updated release.
Powerstone and Rival Schools would also be cool too.
I voted Other, just so I can say "all of them".
If Capcom can get the Marvel games rereleased then Warner Bros and Bandai Namco have no excuse in doing Mortal Kombat and Tekken collections at this point.
Yes to Tatsunoko vs Capcom! that game is rotting on the Wiii with the awful motion controls! and despite the controls the game was excellent with lots of charm.
They want all their legacy fighting games on PS4/PS5? Oh good,I look forward to them putting Alien vs Predator out on anything else but an overpriced arcade fighting stick!😋
@Robocod Never say never! The Punisher is coming as part of the Marvel vs Capcom bundle.
I remember Power Stone on Dreamcast. Back then I had tons of fun with it.
@NoHope One of my favourites! Such a fun and chaotic game!
Hello there fellow gamers;
As much as i like and enjoy CVS series, I´m gonna follow our friend @get2sammyb and say RIVAL SCHOOLS!!!! All the way!
That is still one of the Bests new Original Capcom fighting game series they made way back in the day.
Still remember getting the first game on my PS1 for my birthday and playing both game discs. So much fun.
And the sequel on Sega Dreamcast was great as well.
Make it happen Capcom, I´ll buy it day one.
Here is still one of the best intros of a game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yd3bsH3u1rc. Enjoy.
Cheers everyone and happy gaming
@get2sammyb The punisher? The only one I know is the one found on the PS2. But that's not it, right?
and here i am still wanting a new dark stalkers game
Other companies need to start doing this as well fighting game preservation is a joke I'd give anything for all the previous Tekken's and 3D Era of MK to be available on current gen
Rival Schools would be nice because all games are still stuck at PS1 / Dreamcast. But looking at Capcom hyping up for Terry & Mai and SNK followed up with SvC Chaos remaster, my guess is probably CvS collection.
Also, i would love Beat 'Em Up Collection part 2 with AvP, Cadillac and Dinosaurs, Final Fight 2/3/Mighty Final Fight, and Viewtiful Joe 1 & 2. But Capcom probably gonna separate Viewtiful Joe with it's own collection...
@PuppetMaster Cadillacs and Dinosaurs 🤤
Yes to all of the above
Man I would KILL for AvP and Cadillacs and Dinosaurs. Power Stone needs a proper modern day sequel, it’s the only game that rivals the chaos you can get from smash brothers
Street fighter Alpha 3 - the full home version complete with the single player mode that nets you Shin Akuma. Please.
Imo the best Street fighter game ever.
Just give me the PS3 Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix and I’ll be happy.
Big fan of Project Justice on DC
I dont understand why VJ 1&2 hasnt been remastered yet...
I was never fortunate enough to own a Dreamcast so only thing i know of PowerStone is watching on Youtube and whatever that anime they had.
@Czar_Khastik No this is the original punisher game that was a side scroller arcade game from like 1993
Powerstone 1 and 2 were also released on the PS Vita in one package. Fantastic games.
Power stone for me.i miss those games.especially the first game in the arcade.word up son
Gimme Capcom vs SNK 2 and Rival Schools and I give you money
AvP Arcade wheres the love for that
@pharos_haven Thanks for the info, appreciate it
I know it's not a Capcom fighting game but wish they released Breath Of Fire 3 & 4 to PSN classics
