Gamescom Opening Night Live host Geoff Keighley has announced the first game set to take the expo's live event stage on 20th August 2024: it's Civilization VII. Keighley first revealed the game during Summer Game Fest, and now the first gameplay unveiling is set for the Cologne show.
On the same day, two and a half hours after the Gamescom Opening Night Live showcase is set to begin, Firaxis Games will then present a 20-minute developer deep dive. The team will be sharing "exclusive insights" into "this revolutionary new chapter in the franchise, including our vision for the game as well as its innovative new features. For a one-stop shop on everything Civilization VII, you'll definitely want to catch this one live!" There'll then be a Civilization VII booth at Gamescom — though, it's not clear whether the game will actually be playable — and then a panel will take place at PAX West on 31st August 2024, hosted by Greg Miller of Kinda Funny.
Firaxis Games concluded: "August is just the first step in our journey. Thank you for being the best fans in the world. We can't wait to show you Civilization VII and take one more turn together." The seventh entry is confirmed for PS5 and PS4, with a view to releasing next year.
Are you excited for the first proper look at Civilization VII? Let us know in the comments below.

Love the idea of this but i got 6 and didnt have an absolute scooby doo what i was doing. The tutorial seemed only mildly helpful and it just didnt click.
@Kidfunkadelic83 The learning curve is steep because there’s so many different systems but once it clicks it can be dangerously addictive. The tutorial gives you the basics but you really learn from just playing, observing and reading the tooltips as you go. I’d honestly recommend giving it another go if you find some time mate! I also didn’t get on too well with it at first but I picked it up again a few months later and just got hooked. Never thought I would be pumped for Civ7 but it’s one of my most anticipated games.
@Kidfunkadelic83 I had to watch YouTube guides to understand it when I played it. Makes it much easier.

Slightly off topic but gamescom related, apparently Atomfall (Rebellion) will have (to quote Xbox) hands on experiences.
@CaptD nice, love Rebellion and Fallout… so definitely interested
Yessss, do love Civ even if I probably prefer 4 and 5 to 6. Hope we get some really interesting leader abilities, I’d like them to feel even more distinct. Plus it would be nice to get Scotland again, it was cool having Robert the Bruce in VI.

The good news is that once you figure Civ out you'll have a basic idea how to play most 4X games that have a similar style.
My only request of 7 is that they return to the realistic character designs of 5.
Terrible game (for one's health).
That "just-one-more-turn" and "sh*t-the-sun-is-up" is a disease.
I would like a new Civ Revolution, simpler but mainly it's done in a couple of hours.
Civ 6 too easily too my life away, i also like playing cultural victory which the base game doesn't have.
