Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred, the game's first expansion, is out on the 8th October — and so it's no surprise to see Blizzard bring some news to Gamescom Opening Night Live. In case you haven't heard, a selection of 'Mercenaries' are being added via the DLC — CPU-controlled companion characters who'll fight by your side.

The new trailer introduces four allies, each of them with their own fighting styles and skills. They'll apparently level up alongside you, and you'll even be able to customise their behaviour so that their abilities dovetail with your own.

The developer's also shed a little more light on the so-called Dark Citadel — an endgame component that sees players team up in order to tackle a particularly dangerous dungeon. It'll apparently "put everything you know about combat to the test through a series of cooperative puzzles and mechanics".
