Disney promised big gaming news at its D23 convention this weekend, but there was no Kingdom Hearts or Marvel’s Wolverine – just Fortnite. To be fair, the entertainment giant has invested billions of dollars into Epic Games, and is building a new experience within the Battle Royale that will sit alongside adjacent modes like Fortnite Festival and Rocket Racing.

That wasn’t what was announced overnight, though, as the big reveal focused on the foray’s next major Marvel-themed season refresh: Absolute Doom. Due out on 16th August, this genuinely looks incredible; skins include Gwenpool, War Machine, Emma Frost, a Captain America version of series stalwart Jonesy, a Wolverine-inspired edition of Peely, Mysterio, Shuri, and Doctor Doom. Wow!

Remember, starting with Chapter 5 Season 4, Epic Games will be able to resell Battle Pass items 18 months after the season has concluded. That means if you do miss out on any of the aforementioned skins, you may have another opportunity to grab them later on.

It sounds like the Fantastic Four will all be added later in the season, while there’ll be weapons inspired by many of the aforementioned Marvel superheroes, including Captain America’s Shield and Iron Man’s Repulsor. Meanwhile, X-Men characters Jubilee, Cyclops, and Colossus are all available in the Fortnite Item Shop right now.

And as we look forward to the rest of the year, a series of Disney Villains skins are coming to the game, featuring Maleficent, Captain Hook, and Cruella de Vil. This will be followed by a collection of The Incredibles skins as well.
