While The Witcher trilogy has primarily followed the adventures of Geralt of Rivia, all of that will change in the next entry in CD Projekt Red series', colloquially known as The Witcher 4. However, this transition will be eased by one Doug Cockle, the voice actor responsible for bringing Geralt to life, who has confirmed the White Wolf will be "part of the [next] game" but that the storyline isn't "about him this time".
That's according to a new video from Fall Damage in which Cockle attempts to recall some of Geralt's more memorable Geralt-isms (thanks, PC Gamer). The Witcher 3 was billed as being the end of the Butcher of Blavikens saga, but it seems the old dog has at least one more trick up his sleeve, as Cockle teased:
"Witcher 4 has been announced. I can't say anything about it. What we know is that Geralt will be part of the game; we just don't know how much, and the game won't focus on Geralt. So it's not about him this time. We don't know who it's about. I'm excited to find out. I want to know! I have not seen any script yet—I mean, I couldn't tell you if I did. This is the thing, so I could be lying through my teeth. But I'm not. Or am I?"
How much Geralt are you expecting to see in The Witcher 4? What are you hoping to see in terms of a protagonist? Would Doug Cockle tell a lie? Let us know in the comments section below.

I know this is supposed to revolve around a different Witcher faction, but g'damn I hope we get to play Ciri when she has her full "Lady of Time and Space" abilities. Always thought it would have been awesome to follow her path when she started skipping through different universes and times.
U said cockle 4 times lol 😆
@Drago201 I thought cockle picking could only happen at the beach, but I see you are a digital cockler.
That warms my cockles.
@Frmknst Geralt isn't supposed to sound natural. Cockle completely nails how Geralt is supposed to sound and its no wonder Cavil based his voice on his.
@Kienda lol this was good I had a great laugh thank u 😆
But guys, who said it was not about Ciri? They just said that dad will play some role. This is just a teaser. I am still betting it is about Ciri.
I hope Geralt is an NPC that gives out a sidequest where you have to find his frying pan. And of course, a round of Gwent.
I’m probably in the minority but I hope the game isn’t about ciri. Good eye candy but that’s about it for me. I’d rather play as a guy for these types of games. So I hope we can get a cool mate again. Perhaps a younger lad on his ascend.
Or maybe they will do like cyberpunk and allow some type of creation. Since it’s a tough act to follow after Geralt.
@CrashBandicoat Geralt's story ended in TW3 and i'm surprised he's even in TW4 to be honest. Ciri or a brand new player created character (think V from Cyberpunk) are most likely the lead and that makes a lot of sense.
@DennisReynolds exactly! He’s supposed to be emotionless and unnatural. It’s part of being a Witcher. In fact, I don’t like the times in which he does show emotion. He’s not supposed to.
@DennisReynolds the audience’s inability to move away from a character is part of what “ruined” Star Wars.
@Sergo I think its either Ciri or we get to create our own character.
@Frmknst
Kinda agree. As much as I love Witcher 3, the only voice that takes me out of the experience a lot is Geralts lol.
At least Snake has a wide range of vocals. He screams, he yells, gets angry, surprised, etc, so it doesn't sound forced after a while.
Geralts voice is always monotone and feels very forced
@Specky no offense. But, HE’S A WITCHER!!! That’s how he’s supposed to be! All the emotions and range that Witchers show aren’t part of their character at all!
I'm totally ok with 4 not focusing on Geralt, but I also hope the protagonist isn't Ciri. I think she's a great character, but I don't have much interest in playing a pseudo god in the Witcher universe.
I hope it's windy and he says his line.
@AhmadSumadi Witchers have emotions. They have and show emotion in the books the game is based on. They just keep their emotions in check so that they don't lose focus while in battle.
Emotions drive a lot of Geralts actions. If Geralt didn't have emotions he wouldn't pursue Yennifer (love), repeatedly have sex (pleasure), become attached to Ciri as if she's his daughter (love), wouldn't joke with Jaskier (joy)...
@AhmadSumadi
Yeah, but there are other Witchers who don't have that unnatural voice grind. Who do sound natural.
Listen, I've finished the game twice, got the platinum. I love it and he's Getalt for me, but the voice acting just sounds way to forced
Witcher game without playing primarily as Geralt definitely has an odd feel to it. I'll be cautiously optimistic about it.
If the first two games are getting remake treatment, maybe that will satisfy my Geralt appetite.
@ApostateMage “Winds howling…”
@BIG3 I dounbt we will create, it will be strange since it will not follow the story then. We will see.
