Fate/Extra Record, a remake of the PSP classic Fate/Extra, was announced eons ago – in 2020, to be precise. However, we’ve not heard a peep out of the project since – well, not until this weekend at least. During the Fate Grand Order Festival this weekend, developer Type-Moon released a new trailer, confirming the title for a 2025 release in Japan. It’ll be published by Bandai Namco on PS5 and PS4, which makes a Western release likely.

For those out of the loop, this is a completely revamped version of a 2010 PSP game, featuring new graphics and an overhauled battle system. You’ll get a glimpse of the new combat during the trailer above, which also showcases some of the visual novel-style story sequences. Both in terms of gameplay and presentation, this looks like an enormous upgrade over the original, which was eventually localised for North America and Europe in 2011 and 2012 respectively.

The other big Fate news this weekend revolved around the release of Fate/Stay Night Remastered, which will launch this week on Nintendo Switch, but is skipping PlayStation entirely – despite being published by Sony subsidiary Aniplex.
