Sony has today released the latest system software update for PS5. Bringing the console to version 24.06-10.00.00, this 1.3GB patch adds a fair amount of new features and enhancements.
The main new addition this time is the Welcome hub on the console's home menu. For those in North America, Welcome replaces the Explore hub (which never made it to other regions). In this new space, you can view at-a-glance information, such as storage, battery levels, who's online, and more. You're able to customise it with widgets and backgrounds to suit your needs. While this feature will initially be available to just a "limited number" of users, it will be rolled out to everyone over the next couple of months.
The most recent PS5 firmware beta test's features are being brought to everyone with this update. First, there's personalised 3D audio profiles, allowing each account on your PS5 to set up their own 3D audio settings individually. Then there's adaptive charging, which is unfortunately only supported by the slim PS5 models. Anyway, with your PS5 in Rest mode, it can now adjust the duration of its charging capability depending on how much charging your controller actually needs. This works with all PS5 pads, including DualSense, DualSense Edge, PSVR2's Sense controllers, and the Access controller.
Other notable features include the ability to share a party link for easy grouping up; choose which users on your PS5 can access Remote Play; restore individual licences rather than all at once; and new software for all PS5 controllers.
Here are the full patch notes:
- The Welcome hub is now available in the home screen. For users in North America, this enhancement replaces the Explore hub.
- You can customize the Welcome hub with widgets and backgrounds.
- Widgets display information like storage, battery levels, online friends, and more.
- Widgets can be added, removed, resized, and moved one by one. You can also choose from preset widget layouts based on your preferences.
- A limited number of users will receive the Welcome hub in this update. All users worldwide will receive this enhancement within 1-2 months.
- You can now create a personalized 3D audio profile for your headphones that's optimized to each user's ears. This allows for a more immersive 3D audio experience than ever before.
- Each 3D audio profile is uniquely optimized for each user, created by taking detailed measurements of how you hear 3D audio throughheadphones.
- To create a personalized 3D audio for your headphones, go to Settings > Sound > 3D Audio (Headphones).
- You can still select from 3D audio presets like before.
- Adaptive charging for your controller is now available for when your PS5 (CFI-2000 model group)is in rest mode.
- Adaptive charging allows the duration of power supply during rest mode to adjust depending on how much battery your controller has left, helping save power.
- To use adaptive charging, go to Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode, and then select Supply Power to USB Ports > Adaptive.
- Adaptive charging is supported on the PS5 CFI-2000 model group, using the USB Type-C port. Adaptive charging works with the DualSense wireless controller, DualSense Edge wireless controller, PS VR2 Sense controllers, and Access controller.
- After your PS5 enters rest mode, if a controller isn't connected, the power supply to the USB port will stop after a certain period of time.
- When you’re in a party, you can now share a link to that party. Share the link with players using other services to invite them to that party.
- This feature will be gradually rolled out after this system software update is released.
- You can now set which users can connect to the PS5 using Remote Play.
- Go to Settings > System > Remote Play > Enable Remote Play, and select the users who can access your console through Remote Play.
- The restore licenses feature has been improved, and you can now restore one license at a time.
- Go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses to select the license that you want to restore.
- To restore a license from the home screen or Game Library, go to the game, press the options button, and then select Restore License from the menu.
- We’ve added a friendly recommendation about your storage space that you’ll sometimes see in Settings > Storage.
- We've made it simpler to access the most popular activities from game hubs.
- Game hubs now only display activities that are currently in progress.
- To play a specific activity, start the game first and find it using in-game menus.
- The Invite to New Game option, which is available from multiple locations, is no longer available when sending game invites.
- To invite friends to a game session, start the game first, then send the invitation to the session.
- We've updated the device software of the DualSense and DualSense Edge wireless controllers, PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers, and Access controller to improve stability.
- We've improved system software performance and stability.
- We've improved the messages and usability on some screens.

Good needed update. Although you can already start to see the shift to newer models. Adaptive charging is not available for a base PS5.
that’s just off the top of my head
This is a cool update.
Meaningful additions. I’m still hoping for an improved volume control for DualSense-attached headphones (R1/L1 to increase/decrease while holding the mute button). And a better Remote Play quality would also be nice.
Looking forward to the Welcome hub!
In one of the screenshots someone noticed that the PSVR2 has a battery indicator next to the other ones.
Throwing in if there is gonna be a wireless one coming.
Also someone said that wifi 7 can make it possible for VR2 wireless to become possible to do on the console.
Whether any of this is what will happen is something else.
@nomither6 Agree with every single one of your points.
So, wait, the USA Tubs o' Lard get a different UI element to the rest of the universe? I know PS is now totally US-centric, but this is taking the pee, isn't it?
3D sounds for avr's would be good, still missing!
Adaptive charging is not supported on fat ps5? That is BS sony 🙄
@nomither6 i really want activity feed. Always looking up what my others friend are playing.
Folders? Themes? Ahhh🤬
Themes how they were on PS4 are pointless with how the PS5 is, but this welcome hub feels like a welcome middle ground. Great update.
Glad to see they didn’t forget to improve system software stability 🤭
I’m not really sure what restoring licenses does. I don’t think I’ve ever had to do that, but I know sometimes if there’s a little glitch with the PSN that one would have to restore licenses but I never knew this was an issue that needed to be updated.
As far as the Welcome Hub, if it’s like the Explore section then it’s mostly just advertising anyway, so I don’t think the rest of the world will be all that enthused when you really see it. Although maybe they’ve improved it.
The adaptive charging is probably the coolest part, but I have an old model so it won’t apply. Also, apparently it works just on controllers and not on the headsets? I’ll just keep plugging my stuff into an external charger. 🤷🏻♂️
At this point I wouldn't be surprised if Sony starts charging to receive these firmware updates. 🤣
Not a huge fan of original PS5s already being left out of such updates (adaptive charging). Hopefully not a sign of more to come.
My only gripe is missing game save files backup to external storage -.-
My update has broken my controller, says I can’t update it as it’s too low battery, even though it’s fully charged. Can’t update it when plugged in. Because it won’t let me use the controller and I only have one, I can’t use it at all!
Theme's with the option to remove the UI.
@Pranwell A friend of mine used to regularly charge his PS4 controllers using his phone charger and he would regularly get issues with his controller dieing and nothing he could do would bring it back to life. I told him to just charge them through the console and he's never had a problem since.
Please can we have:
Well, I personaly do not care about this adaptive charging since I use the PS charging station and there I see much higher charge. When charged via the USB and the charger (which uses different ports) the life time is arround 40% to 50%. Most recent long game was Banishers - 9.5 hours (vibration was ON). Before that I could not get to 5 even.
But this is understandable, try charging your phone from the usb conencted to your PC or laptop and then from the charger in the wall. If you can, get that.
@sanderson72 Yes the US gets to have ads shoved down their throat while the rest of the properly cilivised world doesnt not. Don't be jealous over that
@nomither6 PS5 has an in game UI though....?
@blah01 My PS5 instantly connects, sounds like yours has a fault?
As some one in the UK, this update offers me nothing :/
@mountain_spider that’s just your really unpopular opinion & you must’ve overlooked some really good themes then. also , the ps3 had wallpapers for games as well & still had themes so that’s not an excuse. i dont know why people still even say that as a reason, it’s weird.
@FinneasGH there a small reset hole on the underside of the controller big enough for the end of a paperclip. you could try doing a hard reset of the controller. There are loads of youtube videos about it so worth a try
Did this update spam the full screen Astro Bot ad on my main PS5 screen last night?
I can never tell what any of this stuff means while reading it about, will have to check it out later. I never use "Explore", doubt I'll use "Welcome". I mean if they really wanted to welcome us then bring back "Home".
@Quintumply
I am confused, here it states welcome hub for US and in the other article about the welcome hub you state that it will get rolled out to all users over the next weeks. Which one is it?
@NoHope It says
"The Welcome hub is now available in the home screen. For users in North America, this enhancement replaces the Explore hub."
That should be clear enough, but he's saying the US had something called the Explore hub and no one else did. The Welcome hub is for everyone internationally but is being rolled out over time. For users in the US it will replace the Explore hub.
@BiosNova
It connects after a few minutes, but is a pain in the ass.... everything else in the house connects instantly...so my network is fine...
@blah01 Fed up with the background game updates on the PS5. It's never going to be as good as the PS4 which had a dedicated chip to handle up to about 5 downloads simultaneously while the 5 can only ever do one at a time and sometimes it still gets stuck at 'Queued', almost like it's got something else on? Swear it's slower to download PS4 titles than the old Pro.
@nomither6 you're right - the PS3's XMB could have a theme running in the background which could be partially obscured by a game screen or carried on with the theme if the game didn't have one. My PS3 has the Virtual Earth for my login and my son has Motorstorm: Arctic Edge.
@Th3solution I’ve only had to do it a couple of times, but it’s necessary if a glitch is preventing you from accessing a game or add-on you’re entitled to.
Being able to pick only the license that’s causing the problem will save time over having to wait while it checks every license in your library.
@Matroska
Cool, thank you. That is a useful feature, looking forward to it.
@FinneasGH I would call Sony support instead of searching YouTube. They’re pretty quick and helpful
I’ve been waiting for the Welcome hub!
@blah01 Hence your PS5 sounds like it has a fault
Still nothing for trophies or stars. Damn
@KidRisky Ah, makes sense. My game library is pushing 500 titles at this point so I can see the value in only restoring the license that you need. In fact it’s weird that it hasn’t been like that from the start.
@sanderson72 thats the power of the cell 😎, haha , & your child is a real one for having a motor storm theme
and of course your theme is cool too. i don’t know the name of the one that’s currently on my system but it’s a space one too with a bunch of planets in orbit around the sun.
@mountain_spider 🥱🥱
@BiosNova it will struggle on until the PS6
@sanderson72 yeah it seems like 1 step forward but 1/2 a step back with the PS5.
We should not be losing functionality as we go to a new generation of console...the PS5 has been the worst offender on this.
This update really doesn't have anything to offer for us UK folks really 🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️
@blah01 My ethernet network card connects instantly. Maybe a fault or maybe your router DHCP taking a while to assign ip address? I have a static address assigned to my PS5 on the router.
@JalapenoSpiceLife I was reading it as “the Welcome hub will be rolled out worldwide, and in North America it will replace the explore hub.”
I might be wrong.
I just updated, and of course I didn’t get the Welcome hub right away.
The activity cards didn’t change either. There’s still a whole long row of activities that I can’t do.
It’s actually worse than that, though. I used to be able to click on the “Continue main story” card for Marvel’s Midnight Suns and skip most of the opening screens and load right into the game. Now it says ‘start game” and it was no different than starting the game the slow way: long unskippable splash screens, auto save warning and photosensitivity alert, then main menu.
They made it worse?
Anyone here got the Welcome hub and if so, which region are you?
FYI: Explore is US only
I wanna know what happened to the demos page? It disappeared a few weeks ago and haven’t seen it since 🤷🏻♂️
PS Just updated my PS5 - no “welcome hub” yet (UK)
@KidRisky yeah supposedly we won't be getting it till later on so we have to wait a bit, god knows why we do.
@Th3solution I thought it was strange, too. Probably just very low priority, since it happens so rarely and the vast majority of people own so few games that the time savings wouldn’t be noticeable.
Nothing for me in this update. I just want to see the main PS5 trophy UI overhauled. Still can't believe it looks as bad as it did at launch.
Didn't get the Welcome Hub, but I'm looking forward to having it.
@Bizzy thanks, I may give it a shot
Had these updates for the past month via the Beta system update
@sanderson72 The US has often had different features to the rest of the world, on the PS3 for example they had a news ticker thing in the corner of the XMB under the clock. Their PS Store layout was significantly different too and they had loads of free stuff likenthemes and avatars that Europe never got.
@Pranwell It's no faff at all to plug a cable into the PS5 and then into a controller, especially if you don't always have a socket free nearby. Plus you can charge multiple devices at once.
Firmware update 12.00 is available for the PS4 too.
Doesn't seem to do much other than "We’ve improved the messages and usability on some screens.” Probably some more security fixes under the hood.
@nomither6
The browser comes with great risks and that's why it's gone. Of course, there are always security risks and considerations of that nature, but I am confident Sony expects Microsoft to pull some browser-based Game Pass shenanigans, too.
@The_Wailing_Doom i wish sony could work out those risks and develop adaptive measures towards any tampering and security breaches . the ps5 technically already has a web browser to begin with , it’s just mostly inaccessible.
So SIE treats americans with 1st class quality updates, but doesn't give a damn about their international consumers and gave us a meh update. Honestly I think ps5 will be the last I ever buy from Sony ever again. They are so friggin arrogant
As far as I can tell the only thing I noticed so far is the extra 3D audio settings but i'm honestly not hearing much over standard stereo.
