Update: Square Enix has confirmed on social media that this PS5 firmware update is primarily to address the recent issues with Final Fantasy 16:
Hopefully it fixes things for those affected. We'll update this story when we can confirm the update has indeed sorted it out.
Original Story: Sony has just rolled out a new system software update for PS5, and it's available to download and install now. Coming in at roughly 1.3 GB, version 24.06-10.01.00 has arrived, but what does it bring to the console? Well, unlike the last update, this is a minor firmware patch, with no new features this time. Here are Sony's full patch notes on this latest update:
- We've improved system software performance and stability.
And there you have it. We're back to the old faithful stability updates on this occasion, likely fixing some bugs in the previous firmware update. It's not known if this addresses the strange issues some are having with certain games, such as Final Fantasy 16, but we'll update this story if we hear anything.
Anyway, it's all very exciting stuff. Hit us with your thoughts on this monumental event in the comments section below.

Weird, I just checked about 10 minutes ago before I turned off my PS5, nothing.
Like I had a sixthsense something was about to drop.
Just gimme the new welcome page already please
Patch notes: we fixed stuff we inadvertently broke in last big release
@roe u get it soon they pushing it in waves
1.3GB for a few repaired lines?
Another gb of storage lost ..hopefully this update isn't mandatory..
@Acejas What are you talking about? It replaces old data with the same amount!
Thank you for reporting this update
Only thing I would like is the ability to backup my save files without having to pay extortionate prices for PlayStation Plus
@Acejas that's not how this works. Updates and patches (in firmwares at least) almost always replace previous code. The size remains the same or only slightly larger.
I tested FF16 for a few hours yesterday and Wednesday and didn't experience any visual glitches or crashes. In fact, i didn't experience any crashes or bugs in any of my games at all and I've been playing on PS5 every day since the update for 4-5h
I don't know if that's because I'm from Brazil and we didn't get some of the features that north americans are getting now in the latest firmware (Welcome Hub, for example) or if it's something else. Anyway, good to know that this issues has been sorted out
I have been hit pretty hard by the graphics bugs (though thankfully only 1 crash) in FF XVI and since this is my first playthrough it was especially annoying. Happened mostly in cutscenes once you travel to a new location but sometimes in the environment and yesterday I had no graphics errors for hours but then suddenly the little preview windows in the abilities tab (where you can see what each ability looks like) was completely effed up, like static on a TV. Only those little preview windows though. Really weird.
Really hope that the new update can fix this.
I wish they would update the fps issues and add a 40fps option at least. Just got a new tv with vrr/144hz and it still runs like crap unless you use performance.
I just started playing TLOU part 1 and running it on 40fps fidelity mode and its just as good as 60fps. Easily playable and much smoother then 30fps. Please Square.. i've yet to play it in hoping they add it in or fix the framte rares.
