A mysterious rating for Sony’s underrated survival horror series Siren has emerged in Korea, prompting some PS5 fans to ponder whether the franchise could be making an unexpected comeback. In all likelihood, this pertains to an emulated PS2 version, which is already available in most regions and hasn’t launched in Korea yet, so don’t set your expectations too high.
Siren was part of PlayStation’s original PS2 on PS4 initiative, which was widely criticised for the quality of its emulation. While it was enhanced with Trophies and upscaling, the Japanese giant’s new emulator is vastly superior, allowing you to toggle between different regions, rewind gameplay, and more. Perhaps it’s updating the game to use this new technology.
Those looking for a Siren-like experience on PS5 and PS4 this year will be well served by Slitterhead, the debut game from Bokeh Studios, led by Japan Studio veteran Keiichiro Toyama. After directing the original Silent Hill, he moved to Sony to create series such as Siren and Gravity Rush, and now he’s returning to his roots with his first independent project.
While Slitterhead is its own narrative experience, it does feature similar gameplay elements to Siren, including the franchise’s Sightjacking mechanic, which has evolved into more of a possession-style system here.
Personally, as much as we’d like to see a new Siren, it doesn’t make sense without Toyama-san at the helm. Slitterhead, while not being published by Sony, is effectively that. But we’re not opposed to the original game’s emulation getting a much-needed bump on PS5 and PS4, so we hope that’s what this Korean rating is all about.

I loved the game back in the day.
Then I played it on PS4 some years ago and, oh boy, does it feel clunky and janky!
But a hidden gem nevertheless.
No.......NO NO DON'T DO THIS TO ME DON'T GIVE ME HOPE!!!! COULD IT FINALLY HAPPEN!!!???😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Please just let me buy and download Siren Bloodcurse...
In this day and age of Sony remastering/remaking their games, I think now's a good opportunity to revive Siren again. I would love to play the games again with updated control and graphics. This is also one of those Sony IP that is well beloved in Japan.
C'mon Sony, just do it. Remake/Remaster the whole Siren games
I would absolutely love if they'd do something new with the series, though instead of a sequel they could just make an overall game series of experimental slow burn j-horror games under the mantle of Siren. Sony could make them with moderate budgets and perhaps get acclaimed game and film directors to helm these one shots. The indie scene is booming with stuff like that.
It is baffling that the PS2 sequel and the PS3 reboot aren't available. Then again neither is Ico!?
@HarmanSmith far as I recall it was outstandingly clunky and janky. Even in an era of clunky jank
Still waiting for one day to see Siren Blood Curse playable with all the episodes but at this point, it's probably wishful thinking.
@SystemAddict You're right! Maybe back in the day, I didn't notice it that much because of the novelty factor. I did actually endure all that clunk and jank through to the very end.
@HarmanSmith you only reminded me I probs wouldn’t have thought of it otherwise. I think it was also that crudeness that made it so creepy compulsive. Don’t even think I played any of the others gonna youtube em
I still have Blood Curse copy so i'll take Siren 1 & 2 remaster.
They better not ruin it if it does happen.
Otherwise Slitterhead will be the better experience otherwise, hopefully. That and will be on Xbox as well as PlayStation so Xbox owners can experience the works behind the minds behind Siren as well just modern and different of course.
