Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 technically isn't even out yet, but it's already hitting some server-related snags. Players who grabbed one the game's special editions are able to get stuck in four days early — ahead of the title's full release on the 9th September — and it's becoming clear that the sci-fi shooter is pretty damn popular.
To be clear, this isn't just a case of all players immediately hitting a brick wall upon booting up the game — a lot of these issues seem to come and go depending on what modes you're playing and who you're playing them with.
The most popular complaints talk of long loading screens as the title attempts to establish connections — regardless of whether you're in an active party. Even worse, these lengthy load times can result in being kicked from the session, which becomes a real point of frustration if you're halfway through one of the game's sizeable campaign or co-op missions.
For what it's worth, we've ran into a handful of problems ourselves, ranging from standard connection errors to some rather brutal bouts of lag. Thankfully, though, most of our time with Space Marine 2 has been issue-free.
The question, then, is if Space Marine 2 can hold things together when it launches in full next week. The hope is that developer Saber Interactive can address these server issues now rather than later — although that's not ideal if you've just paid extra for an edition of the game that promises early access.
Anyway, publisher Focus Entertainment is asking for feedback, and it ensures that its teams are working on fixes for various problems:
Have you been playing Space Marine 2? Have you been hit with any of these issues? Wait patiently for that sever connection in the comments section below.

I'm struggling to recall an instance where people who paid for early access to a title didn't end up performing QA support.
"Wait. What's 'server capacity'???"
My only issue with the game so far is I have not received the bloody Collector's Edition I have paid for... 🤬
Definitely gonna nab it but I can wait until the 9th. Definitely not shelling out an extra $30 for spotty early access with server issues.
Really do have to question the mentality of the people who are willing to pay extra money just to play a game a few days early
@Fiendish-Beaver I'd wait till full release day and see if maybe then they provided it. Hopefully you get it soon.
Shout out to the folks who shelled out money just to beta test for the rest of us 😂
@StylesT they're excited for the game, and so choose to pay a little extra to play the game earlier. What is there to question?
No different from people joining fan clubs to get pre-release movie showings or the chance to purchase tickets to a movie show early.
It's just a high level of anticipation and excitement for the product.
@ZeroSum Like being a child and being excited for xmas in november ??
This article is another example of how deceiving it is sometimes to mention ONLY PlayStation in articles here. A lot of times people assume games are PS exclusives because it's usually not stated that the games are also available on other platforms. And with this one, it makes people think that it's only the PS5 having server woes, when it's happening across all platforms.
@ZeroSum However you try to package these people ...they dont look good.
Only way I can somehow wrap my head around the mentality is to put myself in an earlier version of myself ..no older than 11...when I would get so excited for things I couldn't wait....but now as an adult it just seems ridiculous that people are paying sometimes as much as £30 just to play like 3 or 4 days early...pretty sad tbh
But hey ho if they wanna blow Thier money...that's up to them
@StylesT yeah, you're spot on with the ending - it's their money to burn. It's just about what excites them, being an adult doesn't stop you being as excited as an 11yr old about something, it just means you have a different perspective. If they're still as excited now about something as they were in their adolescence, then good on them for hanging onto that child-like exuberance!
Only been doing the campaign solo and had zero issues so far.
@Almost_Ghostly Its a PS themed site why would they mention Xbox?
A good problem to have. Hopefully gets addressed fast though.
@ZeroSum What people do with their own money isn't my issue, rather it sets a precedent for publisher's to say "yeah, a chunk of your audience are willing to pay an extra 30%, time to get milking". Which at the same time dicks over the regular player base who will buy at "launch" (I put that in inverted commas because the game has in fact launch, it's just the publisher has seen fit to gate it off and charge extra to access it now instead of next week).
@DennisReynolds I already explained that, twice, in my original comment. 🤣
@Fiendish-Beaver Wait isn’t early access part of CE? Did they at least send you a code so you can play?
@StylesT I can, I work all week and the game releases on Monday, while the “early access” started on Thursday. Then my wife’s parents are coming to visit so that’s another week on top of that.
I was really close to getting the Ultra edition, but in the end couldn’t bring myself to pay 100€ just to play early :/
People are still willing to pay, a premium at that, to beta test a game.
Oh well
@MrPeanutbutterz can you elaborate how players opting to pay extra for early access and the publisher's recognizing this as an avenue to a small bump in revenue "dicks" players over that may purchase the regular edition?
I'm really not seeing the connection. Yes some people are willing to pay extra to play sooner. Yes this means the publisher will make more money and be incentivesed to do early access more often, but recent releases have shown that often the early access players are the ones getting "dicked" over, example Star Wars Outlaws requiring early access players to start saves from scratch after the game was formally released.
@ZeroSum The connection is clear as day. The game is available now if you want to pay a premium. The game - despite being in a fit enough state to be released by the publisher - is not available if you don't want to pay the premium and prefer to pay "just" the launch price.
And the premium gets you it over the weekend, whereas the regular schmoes have to wait until Monday (which is when most people's free time dwindles). The publisher using FoMo in this instance is clear as day as well.
It's also another example of publishers pushing their luck to see what they can get away with.
Compare and contrast with most other games that don't pull this garbage - everyone pays the regular price and gets it on the same day.
@MrPeanutbutterz yeah, that isn't regular players being dicked over. That's a bunch of players being willing to stump up some extra cash to play pre-release, and players that aren't willing to pay extra being upset that they don't get to play early as well.
If you want to play early, pay the premium. If you don't want to pay the premium, you don't get to play early. It's a choice, not the publisher dicking players over.
They should ask concord developers how to handle server capacity, say what you will about the game, but that game launch smoothly without server issue 😉
@ZeroSum Wrong, wrong, and wrong again.
Again - this isn't "play early". It's not some broken alpha build or a hobbled together beta. It's (at minimum) v.1.00 and they've deemed it to be in a saleable condition. They could have released it to everyone, but instead they've released it only to those with people suckered in by FoMo (which is a classic marketing tactic that) and/or more disposable income.
On what planet is giving regular users who don't want to pay a premium the product at a later date to when it's first officially availabile not dicking over them?
@MrPeanutbutterz "Wrong, wrong, and wrong again." made me laugh. If ever there was to be a flag for people who refuse to consider a different perspective, "Wrong, wrong, and wrong again." would be it.
The issue isn't whether or not the game is in a state fit for release (most pre-release games aren't, hence the need for day 1 patches), it's that the publisher has chosen to reward people who buy premium versions of the game with the ability to play early, before the previously agreed upon (between developer, publisher and platform holder, not the consumers) release date and (often) before the developer has finished buttoning down all of the fine details (again, day 1 patches exist for a reason).
You have to consider that the developers are continually working on improving the game, meaning the version you play pre-release, the version you play at release and the version you play six months after release are rarely identical. A pre-release game will inherently have a lot more bugs compared to release day and six months post-release. If you're okay playing the game pre-release, with the extra bugs and without the final few days polish, you can for a fee. That is what pre-release play is.
@ZeroSum The different perspective of uh, being cool with being nickel and dimed by publishers and are happy with the continued enshittification of the market? I did consider it and deemed it to be exploitative garbage.
And for the millionth time - the game is out. Just gated off from people who can see this "pre-release play" for the anti consumer nonsense that it is.
EA is part of the CE version, @species. They have not sent me anything digitally, and I still have not received the game either. I have emailed them to express my dissatisfaction, but I don't expect that to amount to anything. It's not good enough though...
I've just received an email from Focus Entertainment, @species. I was completely wrong about them not sorting the issue. Apparently there is some sort of problem with delivering my order, which has me slightly concerned because the statue has now sold out, so it's not like I can easily replace it. However, the good news is that they have sent me a digital code for the top edition of the game, so either I am to end up with two such codes, or a refund on my original order (I cannot imagine that they would deduct the code they have sent me). I guess that could be looked at as a win either way... 😊
