A specific fight in the new Dragon Ball game is driving players up the wall — and having struggled through it ourselves, we can absolutely see why. Early on in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero's story-based Episode Mode, you go up against Vegeta's Great Ape form — a giant enemy that offers up a much different challenge to your regular-sized opponents.
Basically, the battle is a massive pain in the arse. Great Ape Vegeta is capable of both grabbing you out of melee combos and nailing you from a distance with beam attacks — and getting hit with either of these moves demolishes a large portion of your health bar.
A quick jaunt over to the Sparking! Zero Reddit shows just how widespread the frustration is, with numerous threads all complaining about Great Ape Vegeta and his busted moves. He's a real roadblock in terms of progressing through the game's single-player modes.
And if you really want a taste of the frustration for yourself, look no further than this now viral tweet from @BarretDokkan, who's resorted to simply hitting the retry button as soon as Vegeta pulls off one of his infamous attacks. Can't blame them!
The complaints are so widespread that we're almost certain Bandai Namco will take action. In fact, a lot of the game's AI could do with an overhaul. We're playing Sparking! Zero right now for review purposes, and one of our few criticisms is that the opponent AI is wildly inconsistent. Sometimes it feels like the difficultly skyrockets for no good reason — and Great Ape Vegeta is a perfect example.
By the way, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is only available in early access at the time of writing this article, via the game's more expensive editions. It's fair to assume that the complaints will go nuclear once the title is available to everyone on the 11th October.

Damn, sounds rough; Pretty sure this exact same fight was also a major difficulty spike in Xenoverse 2; makes me wonder if Frieza's also going to be incredibly difficult to defeat in Sparking Zero.
As a gigantic (pun intended) oozaro fan, this is eye-candy for me. 😍
I had 2 hours to play this game last night and the last hour was just trying to get through this fight. But I hope they don't change it because people are complaining. To me it says this game is going to be fun and is going to give me a challenge for a long time which I welcome. Especially coming off of Kakarot which you get to a point in that game where you just obliterate anyone and everything with a glance. So I'm thrilled to have a GREAT dragon ball game actually giving me a hard time!
I haven't tried it but it can't be worse than pre patch radahn from the Elden Ring dlc. That fight forced me to repsec and use a cheese build just to finish it.
@AfroMario Good for you, but not everyone thinks the same like you do. The ideal solution would be if the game OFFERED to make the fight easier if you keep failing - of course, you then have a choice to make it easier or to keep trying. Both sides would be happy... at least, I think.
And this is why you should always pre-order the most expensive version of every single game. So other players can play a more polished version at a reduced price.
For a game that has massive mainstream appeal, my opinion is that it's just way too hard. A lot of people will bounce if they don't rebalance it.
@Maubari yes, a comment under my name will generally represent my thoughts and will and not others'.
Last night, I had the pleasure of beating Great Ape Vegeta. It was a challenge, but he tends to fall into a pattern, so he was hard but not impossible. It’s funny how easy Namek was afterward though. I practically had full health when I defeated 100% Frieza.
If you beat him pre nerf then everyone MUST bow down and respect your superior video gaming prowess. Right?
The game's not even out yet. I wouldnt complain until after the now sadly traditional "day 1 patch".
@get2sammyb It's been a while since I saw the anime but didn't Goku lose that fight? Is this supposed to be a "survive for x amount of time" mission or is it just busted?
