Update (17/10/24): Building Speed, the first speedrun DLC level for Astro Bot, is now available on PS5. You'll need to update your game to the latest version, installing a patch that's just shy of 2GB. A further four speedrun levels will be released on a weekly basis, as outlined below.
Original Story: Team Asobi has confirmed the previously announced Astro Bot speedrun levels will roll out on PS5 on a weekly basis, with the first arriving tomorrow, 17th October 2024. Building Speed debuts tomorrow in-game, and then another level will be available every Thursday at 2pm BST / 6am PT until 14th November. Here's what the full schedule of Astro Bot speedrun levels looks like:
- Building Speed — 17th October
- Let It Slide — 24th October
- Spring-loaded Run — 31st October
- Helium Heights — 7th November
- Rising Heat — 14th November
Nicolas Doucet of Team Asobi took to the PlayStation Blog to set the scene for Building Speed: "With the help of Barkster, the bulldog booster, you will blast your way through a sky-high city. Dodge cranes, smash through crates, and even speed through a flying car wash on the way to rescue your stranded crew." Each new speedrun level will feature two new Special Bots to rescue, and you can also compete for the fastest time on an online leaderboard. It sounds like Eve from Stellar Blade and the Helldivers will be the first two VIP Bots in the speedrun levels.
Doucet continues: "We want to thank you again for all the love and support you have given to Astro Bot, it means the world to us. That’s all we have for today, however watch this space as there may be even more surprises coming soon." Will you be competing for first place on the Building Speed leaderboard? Best game of the year just got better.
2024 goty. Sounds like there will be more stuff in addition to the 5 speed levels. Curious to see if they add the pro to Astro's playroom.
Astro needs to save democracy and rescue the Helldivers
Sweet. This gives me something small to look forward to every Thursday for a while.
Eve bot! Let's go!
I know EVE is one of the bots, should've called her level "Stellar x" e.g. Stellar Slides, Stellar Speed, Stellar Springs 🤔
Awesome. Nice way to release this as well over the next few weeks
Live service shines again!
Noooo!! No more of these special bots. My 7 year old daughter wants to play Horizon now because of the Aloy level in Astro 😂 Seriously, though, keep the new content coming Team Asobi. Both Astro games have a permanent space on my ssd and I will surely keep coming back to them every once in a while.
It'll be great to see where the corners can be cut to shave off time. The Playroom levels had some pretty insane runs
Usually I sell Sony exclusives right after finishing because they're overprinted and loose value fast, and eventually land on plus or a bargain bin when I want to revisit, but I'm holding on to astro. This games just too good to let go.
That soon? Wow. Can't wait
The master challenge was enough for me. Took me so many attempts to clear, it guaranteed I don't boot the game up again.
Very good game but happy to leave the experience in the past.
@gollumb82 As a fellow dad to a little girl, I hope for your sake that after tomorrow yours is only afflicted with a democratic yearning to dominate the galaxy. Given the other bot is Eve from Stellar Blade, the alternative is too upsetting to contemplate!
Is anyone really struggling with the square lava level? It's seemingly impossible to me and I hope this update helps with that level!
@get2sammyb
Sony's finally getting that Live Service/GaaS on point... /s
More Astro Bot! Good times! 😍
@gollumb82 Lol. Feel lucky your kid is now excited for other games now. My son doesn’t want to play the other games. He just wants to play Astro Bot.
Over and over and over again. He had three completed saves and this week deleted one of them and started over. Kid’s going to hit 100+ hours in the game soon (combined with my playthrough too).
@StrickenBiged
Don’t get me started on Stellar Blade haha. I did tell my daughter that she’s way too young to play Horizon. She was a bit upset, but started playing Gran Turismo 7 instead 😂 (Blue Moon Speedway only and only time trials for now lol).
@somnambulance
Oh, I know. My daughter played a total of 180 hours of Astro’s Playroom 😁 She’s already 50+ hours in Astro Bot so she is bound to put in a crazy number of hours into that too.
@Blofse Ha ha yeah that level took me a fair few attempts it was no cakewalk 😅
I’d like a mode that makes the challenge levels more accessible. I’m just useless at them!
@gollumb82 I am grateful for Astro Bot partially because it stopped the endless replays of Astro’s Playroom and Mario Odyssey for a little bit lol. I keep trying to get him to play Plucky Squire, and he likes it, but not like he likes Astro.
That said, I have beaten Mecha Leon so many times now that I could do it blindfolded. The one thing he can’t beat himself in the game. I’d rather not see the Bot of War level again, personally. I think that’s his favorite level.
I’ve let my son try Horizon in the past, by the way, but he wanted to be a tourist with it rather than engage. He may be the demographic for that Lego game and so might your daughter be.
GOTY for me too.
I wonder what outfit eve will have on from my second GOTY!
@Arkham24601 instead they throw even more ghastly speed run levels at players 🙄 I'm simply not interested and playing something else, I'm not holding my breath they will do anything to make even the "master" level easier with accessibility
@somnambulance
OMG. I totally forgot about that LEGO Horizon game. Thanks for reminding me 🙂 think my daughter will be able to play that.
@gollumb82 thought my 6 year olds 123 hours was a record 😂
Yay for Astro Bot!
Pretty smart to release content all away up towards game awards voting. Sony should bundle this in as a black Friday bundle for families.
God damn it, I've sold my PS5 as I wait for the Pro, so I'll just have to play them altogether in a few weeks
The fastest time I managed was 35.899 seconds. After several attempts I couldn't reach it again lol. Last I saw, some people had managed 29 seconds!
@Blofse that one took me the longest aside from the Master Level. Throw the duck at the frog at the end of the first area. Then, make sure as soon as you grab the next duck jump forward and just go as quick as you can. I find the beginning to be the hardest part of the mission.
@Blofse yes you’re not alone, I had many attempts at that level 😣
@Blofse that's the hardest level in the game imo
