Update: Just as these Horizon Zero Dawn comparisons emerged on Reddit, tech experts Digital Foundry have published an exhaustive 20-minute deep dive into the remaster. A lot of the content is as you’d expect: this is an absolutely tremendous upgrade from Nixxes, which significantly transforms the original – itself already a handsome game.
The foliage improvements paired with the new lighting and skin shaders really do significantly upgrade the presentation, and it looks like a generational leap for the release. Digital Foundry also points to some often overlooked details, like the integration of a new audio mix which takes advantage of PS5’s underappreciated 3D audio. There are some great examples in the video.

Give it a watch if you’re interested in the upgrades here, or just appreciate the original comparison pictures we posted earlier today. Clearly, though, this is a fantastic remaster – bordering on remake.

Original Article: Many didn’t think Horizon Zero Dawn needed a remaster, but the work Nixxes has put into this native PS5 version of the open world game is extraordinary. An eye-opening comparison shows an impressive difference between the original PS4 release and its new-gen edition.
In addition to better textures and busier scenes, the lighting has been completely redone, and now it pops off the screen to an astonishing degree. Take this shot of the Meridian marketplace – it’s heaving with activity now, and its lit properly to illuminate the entire scene:

The comparisons caught the attention of Guerrilla bigwig Jan-Bart Van Beek, who explained the original game was his team’s “first open world game” and thus it was “really hard to check every nook and cranny of the world to see if the lighting functioned correctly”. Nixxes has fixed all that.
While the original is still a handsome game, it’s alarming just how much the remaster improves. Take a look at this scene for a glimpse of the dramatic increase in texture quality:
And now compare this sprawling landscape. With the introduction of Horizon Forbidden West’s dynamic cloud technology, the whole scene just looks much more lush and atmospheric:

Considering this is just a $10 upgrade for existing owners, we think Guerrilla and Nixxes have done an outstanding job here. The improvements are obvious, and while you may have very little desire to replay Horizon Zero Dawn right now, it’s nice to know a higher quality version will exist on PS5, ready for when you want to revisit it.

Man this looks so bloody good, and the original was already extremely beautiful. What an upgrade!
A €10.00 upgrade too. Very nice.
Wasn't it confirmed that save files carry over? I had a few side quests in the expansion that I never finished off...
Definitely looks worth the £10 to me. It's a shame its not something new from PS Studios, but all the same, for anyone who wants a re-play or to jump in for the first time seems like this will be the version to get.
Original - 7:30pm
Remaster - 5:00pm
Spent many hours in this world (not just playing but so admiring the world), so looking forward to it's update.
All they did was change the color temp... and in the case of the door shot, they got rid of the lighting or something? Idk... not impressed.
@JokerBoy322 come on man 😂 go back to the door shot and look at the brick work textures. Its absolutely night and day and im viewing on a 6 year old mobile phone. Imo thats the shot that stands out the most.
Sure it looks pretty. But it doesn't matter. I'm done with that game long ago.
Nixxes really know their stuff, on PS5 and PC alike. Good job!
To those thinking this is more of a time-of-day difference, take a closer look at the full size images...
The upgrade path makes this an easy purchase for me. Been wanting to replay the game for a bit too! Looks incredible already.
The screenshots should say "should have gone to Specsavers" for those that can't tell the difference or think it isn't that different.
It's obvious to me now why there was some confusion over whether it was a remake or a remaster when the project was first rumoured.
It does look fantastic, and I'll be happy to pay £10 extra for it. It's clear that the difference is night and day, so can't wait to replay on the PS5 pro
I'm shocked Sony are charging only a small upgrade fee and not doing a Until Dawn/TLoUP1 style full price move. Clearly a lot of work went into this and i'm actually very excited to play it next week.
i.m hoping it's more than graphics update, gameplay improvements like the ability to target specif areas on dinos etc

I don't like how the strong red hues are seemingly lost, personally. And while it definitely looks better, the original certainly doesn't look comparatively bad.
I think the real star is going to be the redone animations. Is that enough to convince me to upgrade, though? Probably not.
That door shot looks like it has bad cartoon outlines on the remaster, makes it look worse?
Anyway, an 'upgraded' version of a game I wasn't interested in first time round on a console I'm really beginning to lose faith in.
Nixxes might actually be the best studio Sony acquired haha.

That city shot… wow, that’s quite an upgrade. Other impressive improvements too. If you can’t see it… well… specsavers.
That said while it does look good generally I’m never very keen on changing the colour tone of a game like they have done, though you will forget that when playing, it’s only obvious on side to sides. And I’ve never been a huge fan of the always on Hero Lighting on Aloy and key characters during gameplay. It means they don’t blend into the world as well. It’s OK for fixed camera dialogue where they can curate the shot but not when we have the camera.
So some good, some bad. I’ll still be picking it up.
@DennisReynolds in terms of optics surrounding this release they had to in my opinion.
It was a very good game with a solid writing that well respected player time for an open world game unlike it's contemporaries or it's sequel.
However with minimal alternative story options and a satisfying but not addictive gameplay it does not interest me in a replay for purely graphical upgrades as someone who played everything the original had to offer.
By doing the upgrade paths there are many who will purchase but not play or simply dip a toe in to their original save and do a tour. Those who purchase it full price are unaffected and of course cannot bypass it by buying the original, digitally anyway, so their profit line is likely higher with a £10 upgrade available.
@Dalamar think he’s more saying you don’t need to go into every Horizon article and bash the game if you don’t like it. I don’t like Fortnite or COD or MOBAs but don’t go into those articles to bash the games, i accept it’s not for me and move on.
@Dragon83 There's also over 10 hours worth of re-recorded motion capture and dialogue.
@JokerBoy322 Clicked on article to see the "absolutely insane" comparisons and found a PC screenshot with no indication if it is indicative of NPC density on PS5 and a shot of a door and a landscape with more vegetation. I understand why you are not impressed.
Looks nicer sure but so does the original which still holds up very well. I'm stubborn by nature so don't mind me, if you're looking forward to it I hope you enjoy it because it's a good game.
Massive upgrade! Looking forward to experience it on PS5 Pro this november!
Looks great definitely worth £10 upgrade.
But what’s the ducking point already completed it and the great DLC.
Something new please Sony, are we down to one new full big AAA game from Sony studios per year.
Because that is where we are heading folks.
Nixxes certainly are an impressive outfit 👍
Maybe one day I'll give this a whirl, but there's so much I already need to play — Forbidden West being one of them!
@OldGamer999 Sony don’t have a huge number of studios/publishers.
They are never going to release many per year.
Need to get that idea out of your head.
Sigh. Reading stuff about games and talking to fellow gamers used to be fun. Now it’s nitpicking and moaning about everything. I love Horizon and have already bought the upgrade. Currently only ankle-deep in Forbidden West and loving every second!
@Dalamar I think the point being made is why are you clicking on an article for a game you don't like to point out that you don't like the game when the article is about the upgrades being made? Seems like a waste of time, doesn't it?
It's a trollish thing to do.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner
I maybe wrong but I’m sure in the PS4 days there was more released by Sony Studios.
Or perhaps it just seemed like it.
It’s strange now that I will playing.
3 Xbox games for the rest of the year.
COD Xbox studio.
Stalker 2 not Xbox studio.
Indy Xbox studio.
I’m sure in the PS4 days it was all Sony studio games released that I was playing.
HZD is by far my favorite game on the PS4, and that was against Naughty Dog's magnificent outings with U4 and TLoU. As beautiful as the remaster looks it's still just another showcase of the bane of video games.
That's just me though, I've never liked the concept or the practice of remasters. If you want to remake a game from the ground up, that's one thing, but a fresh coat of paint is another. The screenshots are night and day though, kudos to Nixxes on the excellent work.
You know, I was gonna be snarky, but I do actually think the improvements look quite nice. Not really a game I like very much gameplay wise, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a fan of the new art direction.
I think the original screenshots have better lighting that give it more character.
Some elements are better but I maintain that the original lighting is more appealing. Not everything has to be more lifelike, it’s a fantasy world.
Definitely looks better, the ten dollar upgrade is not a bad deal. Going for that autopop platinum
As long as my save carries across into the upgrade and it lets me do a new game + I’d definitely play through this game again.
I guess the upgrade isn't available for physical copies until release day because I looked and can't find it but I'm definitely buying it when I get the chance. It looks great and well worth it.
@Medic_alert
If you can't tell the difference now, just wait till you can't tell the difference on a PS5 Pro. (just jokes but I don't know how to do the winky face)
Looks stunning! Most certainly among those games that you're proud to own the console for.
I am greatly enjoying the naysayers slowly but surely getting owned. Sony earned my $10 long before this. Providing an upgrade path is a consumer-friendly move I'd like to support.
It's clearly a substantial improvement in detail density, vegetation and lighting, and that's only in stills. In motion, I expect it to be an even bigger difference. It's true to original colour gives it a more unique atmosphere, but that's purely an artistic choice.
@JokerBoy322 get your eyes tested. I'm visually impaired and can see the difference 🤣
@get2sammyb
Having played the PC ports for Rift Apart, Ghost of Tsushima, Spider-Man and Miles Morales in the last 18 months, I'm inclined to agree.
If Sony is all in on last-gen remakes this really needs to be the path: lower fee upgrade for existing owners, Nixxes on point, and legit care put into the update. Hope it sticks, this makes the Until Dawn release look even more painfully inadequate in comparison.
@get2sammyb I would still say Blue Point were their best purchase
Can't wait to boot this up on my Pro. I'm getting together a list of the first games to play, when it arrives. Currently: HZD, Lies of P, Hogwarts, Ratchet & Clank
Oh my word that looks incredible. My first game on pro will be silent hill 2 hoping it’ll be improved without a pro pitch tbh. Surely the extra horses will allow it to hit its target frames
I never played more than the opening tutorial area in HZD, but I’ve bought the upgrade so prepping to give this another go. Only issue is will I have time given my massive backlog?
@nessisonett I concur. The PS4 version running on PS5 with backward compatibility looks almost as good as Forbidden West in my humble opinion.
Super excited to jump into this again. I actually preferred the original (story wise) over the sequel so I'm happy!
To be fair this still is kind of a pointless remaster. The original version still looks and plays perfectly fine. That said though it does look better for sure. Plus the faster load times will be nice.
If they wanted full price for this there isn't a chance I'd be interested but at $10? Sure, why not.
I actually prefer the more muted shades of the original... I think it makes it all look drier, and dustier. But the extra detail are a nice touch.
For $10 it's a nice upgrade. I don't know if I want to play through it again though. Did the DLC get upgraded also? Haven't played that yet.

Damn this Remake looks mighty impressive, and for £10 too. I will definitely be getting this but maybe not on day one as there's so many games I need to get done first.
I'm looking forwards to playing through this again as it just looks like an awesome remaster for £10.
I wasn't impressed originally but wow overall ive changed that opinion. For anyone who says it looks the same book the opticians
I wish I could forget everything about this game and enjoy it all over again. It was so much superior to the sequel story wise. The remaster probably makes it a better game in every way. At least, Aloy isn't a disrespectful little brat in this one.
The improved colors and lighting actually make a huge difference. The darker red hue of the original made the game look worse imo. That, among the other improvements, make this a must-buy for $10.
Now I just have to decide between PC or PS5. I recently moved my PC to my living room TV so I’m leaning toward that… the classic adult situation of having the money for games but not the time lmao
The original game was perfect and I loved the atmosphere and lighting of the original. Without a side by side comparison would I be able to tell the difference?!
@OldGamer999 Yeah, I still remember how crazy 2018 was: God of War, Spiderman, Astro Bot Rescue Mission, Shadow of the Colossus, Detroit Become Human, Firewall Zero Hour.
Probably the best year of 1st party release in PS history.
It looks better, but the game stays the same. I guess it's nice if you play games for the visuals or are a big fan and want to play it again. For me Zero Dawn isn't a game I need to replay again, no matter how good it looks. ( The original already looks great btw..). Besides this constant remastering of pretty recent games is getting ridiculous and I don't want to support that.
Separate trophy list confirmed(?):
https://www.exophase.com/game/horizon-zero-dawn-remastered-psn/trophies/
Wow that is a day & night difference. I haven’t play this game yet. Maybe this is the best time
I really, really hate when developers just completely redo the color palette and the lighting of a game.
They did that with Until dawn as well.
@OldGamer999
I know what you mean - but going off memory only, I think this was only true of PS4 for the 1st year then the last 3-4 years or so of the generation - I may well be wrong, but thats what it feels like.
We had a couple of good years at the start of PS5 but yes, at the moment it feels like we have only 1 game per year now.
Hopefully this will change as we enter the last few years of PS5 - going on a lot of industry opinions, and the launch / price point / power ratio of the PS5 Pro it feels like it will be 2028 before PS6, and if DF are correct, a 4 year (every game) cross gen period after that, maybe more.
But like you, I would like to see far more than we are now - although maybe this is more down to Sony's marketing which feels woeful at times (only picking up very close to launch).
This looks a good update, at a good price - given how well the game runs already on PS5, both are important.
Sure it looks nicer, but I can’t help but being disappointed that developers and publishers spend time and resources on remasters of games that are already available on current gen systems. I’d rather have new gaming experiences instead of better lighting, increased foliage and realistic brick walls. I know it is impressive technicaly and sadly makes financially sense, but it feels creatively bankrupt.
@Mr_B021 I mean these devs purely exist for stuff like this.
Don't know if it's a time of day thing, but I prefer the more dramatic sunset colors used in the OG. The new lightning is getting awfully close to that "Unreal engine Ocarina of Time fan-remake" vibe, where yeah it's objectively more realistic lighting, but it loses personality.
Overall higher density of everything is impressive, and a much more notable upgrade over the better textures and lighting, as the old ones still hold up very well. It's how much fuller and alive everything looks that really makes it stand out as an upgrade, the people, animals, plants, fog, clouds, how far out everything renders.
@Rich33
The PS5 first two years were great for me GOWR, HFW, Sack boy and a couple more.
It got quiet for me last year as not really into spider man but did the HFW burning shores.
And apart from Astro Bot this year even worse for me. I really do have a PS5 for their in house top quality AAA games. Next year I would bet we only get Ghost 2 and maybe some dlc for something maybe Astro Bot.
I loved the PS4 days, also with the events showing games at least 1 or even 2 years in advance remember the UC4, GOWR reveals etc
So much joy and passion in the industry thats seems deflated nowadays and not just Sony by the way.
I still GPU so I’m still COD, Stalker 2 and Indy so I’m pleased about that, then Avowed Feb 2025.
Then just wait and see what Sony might do as well as Ghost 2, then maybe consider a Pro when I in my own humble opinion we might see what it can really do.
@ThriIIho
I’m hoping those days will return but I’m a bit sceptical really.
Even when you look at USA sales released today of course PS5 is top, but when you look across compared to same time last year individually for all consoles they are all down a far good amount.
Sony hasn't gotten a lot right this generation in terms of respecting their customers even slightly, if not openly flipping us off, but I have to say they got it right on this one. The remaster didn't need to exist, and there's a lot of reasons why it maybe shouldn't have, but, if they're going to sell it as basically a $10 mod pack for the base game, that's perfectly fair and reasonable, and makes them actually seem like they have a clue. They may not have got much else right in years, but this one, they actually got right.
@Mr_B021
Totally agree I have my PS5 and other consoles mainly for their own in house new AAA campaign type games.
Seems I’m getting the remake/ remaster let down the more this generation goes on.
Waste of resource to me, even if it is done out of house as the main studio would still help a bit and also the contractor could also be working on something new for them instead.
The only thing that helps is owning all three consoles.
So it’s Xbox turn for the rest of the year with COD, Stalker 2 and Indy.
@OldGamer999
I think we also have Wolverine back end of next year / start of 2026 (Im more convinced now that SM2 dlc didnt happen due to the need to get other games out, with the hack having put the studio behind).
I think the main reason for so many remasters atm is as gap fillers, though Horizon at a tenner still seems a decent option, and a fair upgrade, unlike the 30fps near full price downgrade of until dawn...
@Rich33
HZD looks a great remaster for PS5 and a good deal for the £10 upgrade.
But I’ve played completed and DLC.
The game remaster unfortunately means nothing to me in terms of playing it.
Amazing game and why I have PlayStation but I know every inch of the game and have no reason to return.
@Rich33
I think the below sums up gaming in 2024 with not enough new releases or very good quality ones and all these remakes and cost of products.
The shocking bit for me is the 2019 bit, which is understandable the year before PS5 and series consoles released and at end of life.
Overall, spending on consoles was down 44% from the same time in 2023, reaching its lowest point since 2019 (the year before the current generation began).

@colonelkilgore I'm pretty sure that's the default for PS4 to PS5 ports, remasters, etc. The backend treats PS4 and PS5 versions of games as completely separate, even for games when both versions are released at the same time.
@OldGamer999 I’m in the same boat as you with your #86 comment. This is a proper full on remaster that’s bordering on a remake but like you I’ve also finished and done/seen everything, including the dlc so I honestly can’t see myself playing Zero Dawn again despite this being an amazing remaster. If I hadn’t of 100% the game then I’d of definitely paid £10 for the upgrade.
I’ve still got Forbidden West to play through for the first time so my next adventure with Aloy will be with that game.
@wildcat_kickz aye I was expecting/hoping… but there was some conjecture on the subject within a previous comments section
@MaccaMUFC
Really enjoyed HFW and the DLC.
You should really enjoy and the dam game looks amazing.
If you getting Pro in 2 weeks maybe hold off until then.
@OldGamer999 Yeah, something really broke in consoles since 2019. "It's the economy, stupid." If you think, in 2019, a console cost, what $350 to get into? Less on sale? Games were $60 at most. Acessories were like $60 at most.
Now they want $550 for a console $70 (soon $80) for games with addon's and cost bundles, accessories are $70+. Meanwhile consumers have LESS money to spend. And the product itself isn't even all that interesting compared to the old product many already have. And meanwhile there's other alternatives to get similar experiences between subscriptions and general purpose hardware. Console has a market and a niche, but if they price the experience such that the market endlessly shrinks, and make only "safe" entertainment for it, where safe entertainment is available elswhere for far less or free....what do they think will happen?
Maybe every console needs a booze dispenser. Maybe that's not the worst idea.
Had this been Bloodborne, I would have been very excited....alas....
@NEStalgia
All I know for me they seem to shrinking gaming especially, I mean 44% down that’s massive.
And worst of all messing up my hobby.
@get2sammyb sorry but no.
Nixxes already had a masterpiece in the art department, digital foundry themselves even said so when they checked the 4k checkerboarding on ps4 pro.
They are good at what they do.
But no one beats blue point and what they did with demon Souls.
Now I get it looks nice but these are screenshots, 95% of people are running around killing robot dinos not really caring.
The price for the upgrade is the saving grace.
I really don't think it would of done much if it was say last of part 2 price or part 1 for that matter.
@OldGamer999
RE HZD and having finished everything - yes, such is the problem with remasters/makes. HZD is not top of my list to replay (due to similar reasons, just not to the same degree), but i will buy the £10 update and play it when im ready to.
In regards the next few years - im being hopeful that in the next year Sony will get out of this mid gen slump (and that their lack of games they have shown is just their recent 'marketing strategy'). It did feel like we had a small slump in the PS4 era, and then had a couple of very strong years.
Hopefully this, other big games from 3rd parties and a slight economic upturn may help with the spending too.
EDIT - removed the accidental emoji - bloody things keep popping in when i use quote marks and hyphens!
@NEStalgia I mean that increase is across the board. Food, housing, etc. has all massively increased.
Holy crap! It's like going from the Atari 2600 to the current gen!
@Rjak i mean imo if it nixxes and other studios doing these ps5 upgrades , then its not really taking any resources away from other games being made. thats why they bought support studios for this reason.
@OldGamer999 yeah, that's extreme. Granted, Xbox is flailing, Nintendo is down because they announced they're announcing new hardware so who would buy a new switch? But Sony being down is telling.
I'd like to couple that number with any growth or loss on PC games sales, as well as any growth in Mobile gaming, to see if they're pushing businesses away to cheaper alternatives and changing tastes, or if gaming itself has just lost public appeal.
@IamJT Yes, but wages have NOT. So if everyone's making roughly the same money and double for food and housing, then the idea they'd also be able to pay more for entertainment goes right out the door. The smart company recognizes the shift. Heck, even Meta discintinued their $1000 headset, and released a new $300 headset. Not saying Meta is winning the console war but they at least recognized where the market is as shifted to meet it while traditional gaming is just digging its heels in and plugging it's ears.
sigh…Just imagine a Bloodborne Remake/Remaster 😢
@NEStalgia I don’t think that’s what they are doing. I think the bet is that they have a product desirable enough to the average consumer to where they can release a higher end version. So far the market has shown they are correct with game price increase and strong sales of both the dual sense edge and portal. Sony has development cost issues but hardware I think they are on the money.
The cost of living increase is an issue but there are also several major areas where salaries are at an all time high. In my market average income for first year attorneys has skyrocketed. Holiday bonuses buy 10-12 ps5s. They are targeting a very specific market with the pro and I doubt they expect to sell more than 10M in its lifetime.
My point being depending on the product it’s smart to shift lower or smart to shift higher. Only time will tell!
Edit: interestingly, Xbox tried to shift lower price with the S and while more successful than the X, could not compete with the PS5. PS is the go to brand most consumers don’t really dig any deeper than that.
And this is also on the list for a PS5 Pro Enhancement. Wonder how much difference that will be? Certainly looks like an impressive remaster.
@IamJT the problem is that sales are struggling. Hardware sales, software sales, everything is slumped. Yes PS is the go to brand, but it doesn't matter if the market for every brand including to go to brand is contracting.
Yeah you're right about incomes but that's the problem with the bifurcated economy. The people make $100k now make $250k. The people making $40k are now making 42k. The lawyers that can afford a pro can afford 50 pros. But they don't have 50x the time to buy 50x more games. The industry still stagnates. It's the blue collar, not the lawyers, that have the time to play games to begin with. The average income in the US is something like $45k. And gaming primarily sold to the average. Great for chest beating of who sells the most plastic boxes. Not great for a thriving games industry.
Xboxs problems are.... Complicated. The shift to cheap should have thrived especially at the right timing in the market, and they entered the generation with serious momentum that way. Then incompetence took over and they set their pants on fire at a gas station.
@NEStalgia
I bought this game on disk for the PS4, and now I own a digital PS5. There is no way for me to upgrade for $10. Trust me, I know for sure, it explicitly says it on their website.
I wish they'd come up with a system for us. Maybe we can mail in our disk copy to Sony and we receive a one time use code to install on one Sony account.
@GreatAuk Eww, ok yeah that sucks. I can get them not wanting to give free digital licenses because people would just pass the disc around to buy the game for $10, but otoh, that's $10 for used copies, voluntarily, which is that Don Matrick was flogged for
Yeah that's a big downside.
Reminds me of when vita was supposed to get a converter to change PSP umd to download for VC and then the cancelled it, after they sold the device saying you'd get bc.
@GreatAuk did you redeem the free give away during covid?
@NEStalgia I agree on the income bifurcation issue. And while hardware is down, it’s still healthy outside of Xbox. I think every generation that did well for a platform holder slumped the following generation. PS2 to a slump PS3. PS4 to a much slighter slump with PS5. No COVID and economic decline PS5 could have likely easily kept pace. Software is down but average spending by consumer is up.
The market has changed so it will be a while until we can see if Sony has made the right plays. It’s the most interesting time to be a fan of the industry since Nintendo/Sega and the founding of the ESRB.
@twitchtvpat
Nope. I bought the game in 2017. I don't even remember the free giveaway and I don't think I've would have taken it anyway since I already owned the game and had finished it.
I didn't think they'd release a diskless version of the PS5 I was defacto forced to get the digital only version since there were no disk versions in stock. I got into the Sony store with their lottery system after trying a million times and failing, so I wasn't about to not buy the PS5 because it didn't come with a disk player.
@IamJT I lot of the slump a generation after a success in the industry isn't about cycles and is exclusively about mismanagement though, for all 3 of them. This time it's different because it's universal. And I wouldn't say hardware is healthy, it only looks healthy if you take the generational total and ignore the very steep downward trajectory after the pandemic era sales boom for unusual reasons. More interesting the downward slump since then is a similar curve in rate if decrease between Xbox and PlayStation.
I'm not sure "spending" is really up. I think that's a false echo of the shift to digital where retail transactions weren't wholly counted and the loss of second hand, which was still industry money, and and the mtx whales in a handful of games. Numbers that look good in shareholder meetings but hide big problems in the market
Just turned on my PS5 and the PS5 version of Horizon and the Artbook I preordered downloaded and installed itself. I'm ready to replay it in week!!!
@twitchtvpat For me it's not really about what the studios are doing. And in that case these support studios could have been assisting on upcoming games.
Also if there is anything that would deserve an upgrade it's Bloodborne which is stuck on 30 fps. A modder patched Bloodborne to play at 60 fps with just 2 (not sure) lines of code. Sony should have patched it for free years ago. Instead they update something like Zero Dawn which didn't need an update in the first place, so they can charge money for it.
@get2sammyb Odd question... Do you know if the 10€ remastered upgrade makes my psplus copy of the original work without an active psplus subscription?
This is verging on remake 😂😂🔥🔥
I agree, an absolutely insane effort for an already fine looking game.
@Max_the_German im really surprised how far they’ve gone with this and I’m absolutely down for another run. I’ve been looking for an excuse
@Markatron84 i never said there wasn't a difference. Changing the time of day is definitely a difference lol. No but in all seriousness, it does look nice, I just don't like how there appears to be a temp change in vibrancy that has me feeling like the overall mood is off now. I preferred the odd lighting that the original version had, that's all.
@Absymbel kinda how I felt. They definitely made sure to choose the one exact spot and weird angle at dusk in Meridian where not many people are around in the OG shot. I didn't even notice the "Captured on PC" marking until now. That's even worse in my eyes. We all know the PC settings are on their highest possible option for these new shots as well, giving an image that not even the PS5 Pro will be able to output. Which, funny enough, is also kind of baffling as well as that landscape shot looks almost exactly the same in both pics with the only difference being time of day in order to produce lighting to make the green grass pop in the new version.
All in all I'm glad it's only a $10 upgrade, but I still don't think this "Remaster" was needed. The OG version ran 4K 60fps on PS5 and was one of the better looking games already.
It's not about some 10 dollars. It's wasting Nixxes time making them remaster already newish games that look good.
The opportunity cost is all the games that could have been ported to PC including Demon's, bloodborne, GT7, Driveclub, all the older ps3 titles.
I reckon about 3-5 games could have been ported instead!
@LowDefAl i stand by my claim. Look again, the new "Remastered" shots are "Captured on PC." The main difference between all these shots to make things pop more is time of day and color temp. They didn't capture the OG shots on PC or it'd be noted their too. Meaning they took screens for the OG PS4 version and are comparing them to the PC version on the highest settings possible. Sony wouldn't allow anything but the best as that'd be even dumber of a thing to do. They got you hookline and sinker thinking this is what you'll get if you buy the new version and maybe more, get the PS5 Pro. It's called marketing Pal.
You can like the new shots all you want. I'm sure the game definitely looks better than the OG, that's not my argument. However the specific shots shown are perplexing at best. A very odd angle of Meridian at night compared to the new shot during the mid day, giving the illusion that the new version is so much more vibrant now... please. Not to mention we have no idea if NPC density on PC will be similar on PS5. Then the picture of a door with better bump mapping but worse to nonexistent lighting now? How ofter did you actually spend analyzing doors before in the old version anyway? Then the shot of the waterfall which definitely looks better but theres no way you can tell me color temp difference isnt at play here, not to mention time of day again, and again PC max settings for foliage. Lastly, the shot of the landscape, acting as a sort of big takeaway to really sell us on what we can expect to see. I kid you not when I say I can't tell the difference, I honestly can't. Color temp and time of day are on full blown display here as obviously as I can ever say. If you go outside in real life, in the morning, and take a picture of your yard and then take another one in the same spot in the afternoon, you'll see very similar results as well.
@Kidfunkadelic83 "Captured on PC" my friend, and all you're looking at is the game running on its highest PC settings that not even the PS5 Pro will be able to accomplish across the board. You really spend that much time analyzing doors in the OG version anyway? Had they not pointed it out, you'd never have noticed. Not to mention if you play on PS5, you wont. I'd rather have the better lighting from the door lights in the OG version anyway.
HZD REMASTERED IS DOWNLOADING RIGHT NOW ON MY PS5!!
One of my least favorite things when I played the original HZD was the use of fake lightning to emphasize the characters. With this remaster, they've bumped that up to eleven. I know a bunch of games use the technique, but a lot of them do so with more subtlety. The Horizon games make it look like your character is in front of a green screen and I truly loathe it.
