Saber Interactive, Paramount Game Studios, and Avatar Studios have jointly announced a collaboration on a brand new, AAA game set within the popular Avatar franchise. Not the James Cameron one, the other one.
Set to arrive on PC and consoles, this untitled Avatar video game will be the biggest in the history of the franchise. While there have been several games based on the adventures of Aang, Korra, and their allies, it sounds like this will be the big action RPG fans have been waiting for.
The game will follow a brand-new story that'll have players "take on the role of an all-new, never-before-seen Avatar". It'll take place "thousands of years in the past", where you'll need to "master all four elements, engage in dynamic combat alongside companions, and experience the challenges and decisions that come with being the keeper of balance in the world".
That's about it for details right now, but it's an exciting prospect for fans of the show. Saber is a studio that lends its talents to a diverse range of games, including the likes of Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, SnowRunner, Evil Dead: The Game, and so many others.
It'll be interesting to see how this turns out, though it may be a while before it's shown. Are you excited for a big, AAA Avatar game? Tell us in the comments section below.

Better late than never, but why did it take this long to invest in a AAA game for this franchise? Instead we got those awful half-hearted series tie-in games 😂 The possibilities are endless! I'm psyched!
Damn, would have been cool to have the shows cast involved.
Still, lets see how it turns out.
I'm really hoping it'll turn out good, Avatar as a game has a lot of potential
The Sabre that was working on KOTOR remake?
Skeptical.
Why not make one big game following the complete story of the series.
None of these companies nor any of the previous games released inspire any confidence from me. It's impossible to make a good avatar game apparently
They said this before and then the Game Mill Avatar game came out lol
I hope it's a tie-in to the fan favorite & box office sucess The Last Airbender movie adaptation by M. Night Shyamalan. 🤞
I did like the original animated show a lot, accessible, fun and a lot of heart. Not sure how they'll capture that in game form, we'll see I guess.
@EchoRange No they are working on it now since they took over but it was original Aspyr that was f*ing up.
crazy that we havent gotten that definitive avatar game yet. even crazier that the korra game was the best one yet
PLEEEEEEEEASE don't be garbage good god I want a good Avatar game for once
There’s so much potential but I just have a feeling it’ll be rubbish, I’ll be very happy to be proven wrong though. It’s one of my favourite franchises. As long as they can get the character and depth in the story, it could be excellent.
No matter how big this game is, it's going to basically be impossible to meet expectations. This is Avatar. Arguably the greatest TV show of all time with some of the biggest and most devoted fans. The TV show set the bar WAAAAAAAAY too high. Hahaha!
I can't help but wonder if the overwhelmingly positive reaction to Elca Gaming's open-world Avatar fan game (made in Media Molecule's Dreams) might have had an impact on this decision.
For a time their's was the poster-child for Dreams projects and his youtube update videos have amassed over 20 million views (with the most popular video getting over 6 million). It's seriously impressive stuff and featured open world exploration and tons of mechanics from the show that are implemented very well.
Hopefully this game will be what fans have always wanted, but I hope it doesn't overshadow EG's massive accomplishment, and hopefully we'll get the release of both projects before too long.
As much as I love Avatar, I’m expecting a 4/10 game, as is usual for the series.
This better be good or I'll riot.
One of the best and most popular tv series of all time and all it gets are these PS2 type licensed games. Insanely stupid considering the potential it has
Saber is about as mid as it gets, 90% of their output is ps+/Gamepass fodder
@LuXifer I rebuke thee for such blasphemy.
Oh no please be good.
shame its not a more intriguing studio but still, love the Avatar world
I'm somewhat hopeful but we could've gotten a retelling of the og story a lot better than Netflix did
Can't wait for it to be announced as the next big GaaS that will revolutionize the industry.
Monkey paw wish... it'll be based on the Netflix live action series 😓
Seriously though, the game being a new chapter of a past avatar is probably the best way to go and expand the lore.
Wouldn't mind a story between Avatar and Korra, but preferably preferably as a animated series and not a comic or a game.
@AgentMantis
Considering how they nailed Space Marine 2, I'm hopeful they'll land in the other 10% of your purported ratio.
Benderborne, am I right?!
….
I’ll show myself out.
@1UP-HUSKY That story has been told multiple times now. I'm all for a story about a past incarnation.
Have they ever actually made anything good outside of the couple mentioned?
I've seen Storm Troopers with a better hit rate.
