Starship Troopers: Extermination is now live on PS5, offering fans of Helldivers 2 and other PvE multiplayer games a larger-scale, first-person cooperative bug-killing alternative. In addition to a hype-inducing trailer, developer Offworld has revealed a development roadmap outlining what players can look forward to in the coming days and weeks.

Exiting Early Access and released into 1.0 (thanks, PC Gamer), Extermination is quite a different beast to Helldivers 2, which remains the most straightforward comparison and has more of an old-school PC flavour to it. Companies of up to 16 exceptionally fragile troopers (with six classes to choose from) work together to achieve objectives across a community-led campaign. There is a strong emphasis on base-building and defence, with the mounds of dead bugs remaining persistent, creating dynamic obstacles for friends and foes alike to navigate.

Offworld plans to spend the rest of the year optimising performance and squashing bugs. Early 2025 will see new perks added, five new levels for each class, and an underslung shotgun attachment for the Morita assault rifle. The bugs are also getting new "bug holes", so watch out for that.
