Sony has released a new system software update for PS5. Bringing the firmware to version 24.07-10.20.00, this isn't a major one, but it's a little more than the usual stability update.
Coming in at just over 1.3 GB, here are the official patch notes for this latest firmware:
- Activities now display as In Progress, Not Started, or Completed, depending on whether you have ever started or completed the activity.
- Potential spoilers will still be hidden.
- We've improved system software performance and stability.
- We've improved the messages and usability on some screens.
So, along with your usual performance and stability improvements, there's a point about Activity Cards. With this new update, they will now show their status. Depending on your, erm, activity, Activities will show one of three statuses, letting you know whether you've completed, not started, or are in the middle of doing an Activity. It's a simple improvement but it makes sense.
Recently, players have been treated to a larger firmware update that introduced the Welcome hub, which adds a section to the home menu with lots of customisable widgets.

I haven’t even received the welcome hub yet.
Expect matching security/stability firmware for PS4 incoming...
The welcome screen popped up for me yesterday and I'm not sure I like it... seems like all it currently does for me is make me press one more button to get to my last played game
Unfortunately got Welcome crap yesterday. Any idea how to disable it completely, or better, delete it? It is another one step away from playing...
@djlard u can't remove u can remove what u want to see
@Slayer25c I did customize mine to make it appear more useful... but ultimately 99% of the time it will still just be there so I have to press "->" one more time.
@Voltan I hardly notice it I press so quickly lol
I've yet to make use of an activity card since getting a PS5. I wonder what the metrics are on usage or if they have the ability to track that. Surely they must. Which leads me to believe people ARE using them? But in what instances exactly?
Remember when playstation was For The Players...? Now it's just For The Buyers. Now they just want more ways to push ***** onto you, and this new welcome hub is the perfect example - an update that nobody asked for, containing crap that you don't need.
@zupertramp I use the activity cards sometimes, although it's rarely the ones that let you access specific parts of the game directly - a common exception being the Tournaments feature in competitive games.
It's most often the cards connected to trophies, I'd say.
I noticed the change yesterday. Doesn’t really add anything of value to my experience, but it does obscure the screen quite a bit. I prefer to look at game art rather than stats, trophies etc. Not a big deal, though.
i didn’t notice squat except improved system software performance and stability
Wow, I am more surprised to see that this wasn't the case from the start. Not that I ever really looked at them.
@GingerAsh You can customize it to remove the ads/store stuff, so that it only shows you relevant info you want to see. I missed the PS4 functionality that showed me what some of my friends were up to, and I like having my controller battery info, storage, friends and stuff at a glance. Saves a few button presses in that way.
@GingerAsh They keep nailing more crap onto the PS5 Ui and it's still a total car-crash compared to the PS4 (or the PS3, for that matter!)
Wake me up when themes come back.
@GingerAsh Why I loved the PS1, 2 and 3 eras simple UI I suppose the PS4 but it did start the crap we have now
@RedRiot193 you have a better chance not waking up and seeing them in your dreams
I really like the Welcome Hub.
It’s a brill addition. Customised it to the way I want but my biggest gripe is the pics/screenshots tile, it doesn’t shuffle automatically, just the same pic every time.
@nomither6 ☹
@Nakatomi_Uk PS3 also started adding on crap you couldn't remove towards the end of its life cycle. Isn't there a button for singstar or something which can't be removed?
@TrannosaurusBex i use my ps3 often and the UI is pretty clean . still the best UI of all the playstations imo , and the best themes
oh, and i don’t notice a star button or whatever
@Nakatomi_Uk PS4 occasionally used to get an 'advertising' widget on the dashboard but you could delete it.
Back in the day when Sony were friendly and not the money-grabbing Fony they are now, they even added a flag somewhere where you could tell it NOT to download advertising icons. No such joy with the Tub o' Lard and it's jarring UI.
@TrannosaurusBex Yes, there's a Singstar icon stuck under the Games vertical that appeared for some reason, even if you didn't own it?
@BowTiesAreCool definitely needs a shuffle option.
@get2sammyb You need to boot up a PS4 or PS3 with a cool theme in the background and then tell me you like the Welcome page.
The whole PS5 UI is just miserable, from the funeral music to the lack of games icons on the top (wherefore art thou, Folders?)
I got the previous update with the new welcome hub but I still don't have adaptive charging for controller. Why is that? I tried to update everything but still not showing up. Any idea? thanks! I will install the new one today so it might shows up.
@sanderson72 “no you don’t like it, I’LL tell you what you do and don’t like!” shakes fist at cloud
Such weird energy to give off 😂
@zupertramp the weird thing is it does actually have a shuffle button, the button just doesn’t work 🤣
@sanderson72 you just made my day. Couldn't stop laughing when mentioned the funeral music 🤣🤣. Most times when I hear I feel more depressed than nostalgic. But you definitely spot on
To me honestly Sony is tone deaf to its OG users from PS1 to current. It's like they feel every thinks this UI is good. When literally reminds of apples trash UI on the iPhone. Does simplistic does not mean good but rather 🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱
