Sony has tagged its upcoming Until Dawn movie with a 25th April, 2025 release date, after filming concluded earlier this month. The film, directed by Lights Out’s David F. Sandberg, features a script penned by Annabelle’s Gary Dauberman.
The movie will mostly host an all-new cast of rising stars, but Swedish star Peter Stormare will reprise his role as the unnerving Dr Hill from the game.
Not a lot is known about the storyline, but given the subject material, you can probably expect a typical teen slasher in which a group of frisky adolescents make a series of increasingly unwise decisions in the face of certain death.
With the release date less than six months away, we suspect we’ll see a teaser trailer relatively soon – potentially around Halloween. Are you looking forward to this flick? Survive until the sunrise in the comments section below.

they should just announce the sequel soon
@twitchtvpat Seems likely doesn't it? Maybe a trailer for the movie at The Game Awards and then an announcement of the sequel?
On the subject of the actual movie, I think this is probably the easiest adaptation they're going to do. All it needs to be is your average teen slasher and it works fine as an Until Dawn film.
Reviews will almost certainly be bad but budget will probably be low and will likely make a nice profit if it's competent and well marketed.
Peter Stornmare again is fire. I will definitely be seeing this movie, Until Dawn is really good and I think it's possible to have a great film out of it
I've heard that the movie only runs at 24 fps so I'll probably wait for the remaster of this a few years down the line
Ohhh nice, a birthday treat / nightmare for me!
@twitchtvpat Who's making it though? If is the hacks that made the horrible Until Dawn remaster then no thanks, that's like getting the guys that did the GTA trilogy (Grove Street Games) to do GTA 6.
If Sony got a contact done with Supermassive Games to do the sequel then yeah bring it! Also I don't see why for the movie they couldn't get the original voice actors as most of them are talented actors/actresses.
@Tecinthebrain Freddy mercury is gonna want more money than when he did it the first time! Not sure what the rest of the actors are doing
@Tecinthebrain if the rumor is right , then it is firespirte making it , ballsticmoon made the remake btw, and ballsticmoon is made up of former supermassive devs.
@get2sammyb i think the movie should be okay , it just needs to be a basic horror / slasher movie. game award announcement would make sense though.
Absolutely pointless. The game’s already cinematic, what does this add other than the feeling that games aren’t ’real’ media? They’ll have to pick a canon ending too.
@Tecinthebrain "Also I don't see why for the movie they couldn't get the original voice actors"
Hiring Rami Malek alone will cost a lot of money. But i'm not sure if the actor wants to act in a slasher / horror movie after he won Academy Award.
The whole point of the game is its paying homage to 80's slasher "Cabin in the Woods" type films and does it with a very self aware feel. A film version of the story though is just going to be another generic slasher film devoid of the very thing that made the game stand out and have fun with the idea.
@PuppetMaster Also the actors are all late 30's/early 40's now. Obviously these films always cast older actors as teens but they tend to draw the line at casting a 40 something as an 18 year old.
I'm sure it will be absolutely terrible
Sony knows this is what we wanted. Absolutely cannot wait for a sequel announcement.
checks notes
For a 2015 game, when majority of peaple wanted a sequel then.
It would have been better if this released around Halloween. Horror films seem to do better around that time.
Maybe this is an unpopular opinion but I think Until Dawn isn't good enough to deserve either a remake or a movie adaptation.
The game itself is already an interactive movie and the story isn't that great as is so no
@DennisReynolds Seriously normally I get complaining about game actors being cast aside for film adaptations but I'm really confused at people complaining about this game because as you said most of the Until Dawn cast are pushing 40 and people actually think they can reasonably play a bunch of high school students? 😅
@Tecinthebrain Aren't the original actors way too old to be in a teen slasher now? Malek is like 40, right?
@CieloAzure To be fair, if they bring the sequels out quicker, people complain they're milking the franchises. Can't win.
@get2sammyb
That's very true.
