BioWare has revealed it won't be releasing any post-launch DLC or expansions for its new PS5 release Dragon Age: The Veilguard, as the developer has now shifted all its attention to the next Mass Effect game. During a deep dive interview with Rolling Stone, creative director John Epler confirmed the shift in focus.
"With Dragon Age: The Veilguard now complete, BioWare confirms that there are currently no plans for downloadable expansions. The developer's full attention has now shifted entirely to the next Mass Effect as their current project."
At launch, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is said to contain anywhere between 50 and 80 hours of RPG content, depending on how much time you invest into its optional elements and quests. Still, for there to already be confirmation of no DLC for a game like The Veilguard comes as a surprise. Besides ANTHEM, the vast majority of BioWare titles have received expansions in the months after release. Obviously, there'll still be patches and updates to fix any glitches or outstanding issues, but that appears to be the end of it for the studio.
The next Mass Effect instalment is what BioWare will focus on next, an RPG that will stick to its photorealistic graphics, as confirmed by project director Michael Gamble in a recent series of tweets. While Dragon Age: The Veilguard went for a more stylised look, Mass Effect will remain photorealistic for as long as Gamble is at the helm.
What was available on day one yesterday is now the complete Dragon Age: The Veilguard package, so it's a pretty good job BioWare has made a great RPG experience. "Its shift to crunchy action combat is an improvement over Inquisition's middle-of-the-road approach, and although the game feels a little light on meaningful player choice, the storytelling pulls no punches when it actually matters," we explained. "This is a gorgeous and gripping adventure, backed by a cast of endearing heroes and deliciously devious villains." We also have a Dragon Age: The Veilguard guide to help you get started with the RPG.

If it means we get Mass Effect earlier, then I'm happy!
I've only just got Dragon age, but I'm suspecting it might allow for several playthroughs without DLC anyway
Good. I like when a game released I can play it and then move on.
Looking forward to dragon age when I get the time
@PsBoxSwitchOwner Exactly, I want to know I can finish and get everything out of a game without having to wait and see if anything else gets added to make me reinstall (or buy again if I've got rid of a physical copy)
@springer17 yeah there’s very few games I go back to, especially if dlc takes a long time to drop.
Or when a company goes we are releasing XYZ dlc, I end up waiting for a complete edition because often on release a game needs patches etc
Good news!! I really want a new mass effect game
... One of the greatest joys of gaming is finding a gem... and then realising how much else there's on offer through DLC.
There's DLC like Kingdom Come where it expands and improve the game, and then there's DLC like The Spiderman where you get a watered down experience that doesn't really connect to the awesome main game.
I guess this might just be a new trend in the tripple-A space.
I'm genuinely very surprised. I thought they kept a smaller team to do the DLC?
I remember how sad and disappointing it was back when EA ruined Westwood and C&C. Seeing the same happen to Bioware is just sad.
Im sure the new Mass effect will be great! )
This is great news. Not every game needs DLC or a story expansion.
ME is on life support after Andromeda they need to go all in. I reckon the feedback from Andromeda and Veilguard will affect the writing direction among other things.
WHO ARE YOU, AND WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH ELECTRONIC ARTS??
@JohntheRaptor One can hope. I wonder if Drew Karpyshyn is available...
After Starfield and Veilguard, I have zero faith in anything Bethesda and Bioware release anymore.

Awesome news, love it when you get the whole game in one package and not spend extra on expansions
Awfully levelheaded comment section for once.
I'm glad we're not getting any dlc.
Translation: DLC was planned but the shear hatred of the game means they are dropping it and running away. EA NEVER misses a chance to nickel and dime. Mass Effect is in so much trouble at this point that the amount of emergency meetings and panic is comical.
It's the same situation Ubisoft is in with Assassin's Creed Shadows. They delayed it to change things and the first DLC being included means it was already started. They scrapped any other plans at this point. The game will come out and it will be abandoned as fast as they can. This is what happens when you care less about making a good game and are more worried about a checklist.

@Lavishturtle They said a while ago they weren't doing DLC. I'm not sure why sites are reporting it now as if it's a new thing. Here's an article saying the same thing from over a month ago:
https://www.thegamer.com/dragon-age-the-veilguard-no-plans-for-dlc-inquisition
It's also done well critically; professionally, Steam user reviews, PSN user reviews and Xbox user reviews (the latter two both around 4.5/5). And as another article on here says, it's the most successful launch for a single-player EA game on Steam in history.
@Lavishturtle The writing in Veilguard is atrocious. How can you fumble the ball this hard on your biggest franchise. Just copy what Origins did and make it more modern, all they needed to do. Alas, we all know by now, the people that made Bioware great left a long time ago.
No DLC cos the dev team are all busy on their CVs.
