Cyberpunk 2077's deeply disappointing launch is just a blip in the rearview mirror at this point, and while we certainly won't forget, we're hopeful for the studio's future. According to CD Projekt Red's recently posted financials, that future is looking bright indeed; Polaris, colloquially known as The Witcher 4, has entered full production, and Cyberpunk and its excellent expansion, Phantom Liberty, together are approaching a very impressive 40 million copies sold.
CD Projekt revealed the happy news on X, and we really are a long way from that memorable day when Sony pulled Cyberpunk from the PlayStation Store. Then, lest we forget, it was completely missing in action for over six months, in a debacle the likes of which we may never see again (hopefully). Anyway, the breakdown is 30 million copies of Cyberpunk 2077, buttressed by another 8 million copies of Phantom Liberty, an impressively sticky attach rate of 26%.
How are you feeling about Cyberpunk these days? Should it be considered on a par with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt? Or are we too forgiving, and should we never forget? Let us know in the comments section below.

I should try the game again. It did a really poor job selling it's world, imo. Or at least the emergent elements of the open world felt superficial. A crowd was running from some incident or another, I turned around to see what it was, turned to run away, and the crowd was gone. Just a peaceful street all of the sudden. Security appearing in elevators behind me. Felt like I was in Saints Row 4. Like the joke was that the game knew it was a simulated world. This was about a year ago.
Cp2077 2.0/Phantom Liberty was absolutely my favorite gaming experience last year. Too bad only 26% played it. I know that’s a good number. But it deserves more in my opinion.
I was lucky to have had a fantastic time with Cyberpunk 2077 at launch on my PS5. Despite some soft crashes and other issues, I really did have a blast, and found the game to be a pretty immersive role-playing experience. At some point I need to go back and play Phantom Liberty; sounds like the game is a much more polished experience these days!
I adore The Witcher 3 but still haven't pulled the trigger on Cyberpunk 2077. I enjoyed my time with other cyberpunk games like Bladerunner and Shadowrun very much, so this should in theory be for me.
But every time I see gameplay it doesn't really do much for me.🤷♂️ I'll most likely pick it up down the line, at the right pice, and let the game speak for itself. Ultimately I'm glad they managed to turn the ship around, patch it up and give players what they were promised.
My fav game of all time. Played it 5 times, on Series X, PC, PS5 and now started a 6th playthrough on xCloud to test xCloud’s ability to stream the Xbox games you own. In short: it works great. Congrats CDPR and I hope TW4 and CP2078 aren’t too far away.
Honestly overrated for me. Poor story, boring world, no mission variety, no politics, NO PUNK. Generic, bland dystopia.
I hope every sale of this game has money go to Edgerunner's makers who really saved this game.
great old school RPG set in an interesting universe 4 endings felt like a very Bethesda game design before they lost their way
@breakneck Really? This game is actually the opposite to every point you've written
@breakneck That’s definitely… an opinion.
I think it's a case of both never forgetting what happened and celebrating a good game.
I got it at launch and naively assumed a game first announced and planned before the PS4 came out should have been able to run okay, but even then I was running it on a Pro and really they should have cancelled that version long before it was released.
It shouldn't be forgotten how they willingly release a broken product which had really strong launch sales before the refund process started.
The real launch for me was the 1.5 "next gen" launch which really started to show what a good game it was but the final complete version was at the launch of Phantom Liberty.
Now it is a very special game which puts a lot of projects to shame with it's ambition and world they've created. If still unsure watch the excellent Edgerunners and if that doesn't get you excited to play it it's probably not for you!
I’m back in Night City on my 5th or 6th play through. Cyberpunk has really good replay value because there are multiple play styles and so much to see. Plus Johnny Silverhand is more lovable with every sarcastic quip.
I would place Cyberpunk 2077 in my top 5 all-time favorite video game list.
I loved being in Dogtown. Even though it was a tiny portion of the map, it seemed chock full of places to explore.
Picked up the PS4 disk for $10 while it was banned from the PS Store, so I ended up with quite a steal, I think. I only played a little bit of the intro, waiting for the PS5 version - and by the time that dropped, I was busy and never got back to it. Now I'm waiting for a better sale on Phantom Liberty, but I might just go ahead at 20% off since I got such a deal on the base game.
Not now, though, I bought myself Stellar Blade as an early Christmas gift, and I'm addicted.
