Fortnite Attracts 14 Million Concurrent Players to Hip-Hop Concert Event 1

The curtain has just closed on another epic Fortnite event, featuring performances from Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Ice Spice, and Juice Wrld. The finale to the current Remix season paves the way for Chapter 6, which has a Japanese theme to it.

The concert attracted over 14 million concurrent players, a new record for the Battle Royale. It started out with a kaiju-sized Snoop Dogg, before transitioning into an Eminem Gundam battle. Ice Spice performed on the top of a skyscraper, while Juice Wrld rounded things out in an ethereal space.

While there wasn’t much gameplay in this event – you kinda just bounced around and watched the performers do their thing – there’s no other title on the planet putting on in-game spectacles like this. Pertinently, the new Hunters season looks absolutely superb.

Remember, Fortnite OG will also return early next month, so if you prefer your Battle Royale games to be a bit more grounded, there’ll soon be something for you, too. Did you play the new event at all? What did you think of it? Let us know below.

These events are so awesome, but its like a monkey paw for me.

It's such an awesome idea to do these insane, huge budget, virtual concerts that defy your average concert experience but just:

its in fortnite, a game I dont like. I hate the art style. the artists they pick are always so middle of the road.

Its so good they do them and I'm sure there are people out there who have an absolute blast with them and I'm so happy for them, but I always watch them and it just feels like it could be so much better.

I'd love to see one of these experiences in VR, which a different art style. I think first persons the way to go as well

Wait I looked it up and Juice WRLD is indeed dead. What the f**k? So we’re having virtual concerts of dead people now? Is that not incredibly dystopian?

@nessisonett They debuted a new song and music video during this. I don't know an enormous amount about it, but I assume it's all been done in collaboration with his estate.

It’s not the first time this has been done though. Michael Jackson, Tupac, etc have had digital likenesses rendered for concerts. Elvis Evolution is in the process of being made. KISS is replacing themselves physically in concert with a digital avatar version of themselves in 2027 for hologram and digital performances and it’s rumored that they’re going to use AI to continue making albums for them as well as part of the gimmick.

The immense popularity of Fortnite is incredible to me. It has a lot to answer for in terms of other companies chasing similar success. Had Fortnite never existed, I wonder what the gaming scene would look like today.

I missed it sadly but I’m not a huge fan of any of the artists involved. If it had been Gaga, Britney, Madonna Ari and Miley, I wouldn’t have missed it for the world. Can’t wait for the new season tomorrow 😁
