The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley has been transformed into a full 3D character for this year’s Island of the Year in Fortnite.
As with previous years, developer Epic Games has created a full interactive experience for you to test out the nominees and engage with minigames.
But there’s more: Keighley is actually in the game, using MetaHuman technology.
“Epic Games announced in March that MetaHumans, which can be used to create high-fidelity digital humans, can now be used in Unreal Editor for Fortnite,” he explained. “I spent a full day at 3Lateral in Manchester, England to get scanned as a MetaHuman. You sit in a scanner and do tons of different face poses, then they scan your body too. The results speak for themselves, I truly feel like I have a digital double.”
For those who don’t know, in addition to its main modes, Fortnite also empowers budding game creators to make and publish experiences of their own. These, called Islands, can then be discovered using the game’s main menu.
Among the nominees this year include an MMORPG called Fort Knight Legends and a clicker-style experience called Lumberjack Heroes. We’ve actually played both of these and like them a lot.
Will you be voting for Island of the Year within Fortnite? You can access the interactive experience, with the virtual Geoff Keighley, from the main menu – or by using the Island Code 0853-1358-8532.

I'm sure the response to this marketing ploy is going to be very positive from the audience.
Geoff’s avatar (not calling it a MetaHuman even if Zuckerberg is paying me too) has a Quasimodo Hodor thing going on. 🤪
I'd rather spend a night in Jimmy Saville's hoose 😃
no thanks, I'll pass
I’d rather be locked in a room with Hermen Hulst to talk about the joys of Concord.
There is so much that is very very very wrong about virtually every aspect of this article that I can't even think of any coherent snarky reply about it. Just take every single part mentioned and undo it, and the world will be a better place. Where's the mind bleach?
Is the Fortnite demographic more positive to the Dorito Pope?
I can't think of anything positive to say about this xD
Can you shoot him? If so I might actually download it
Absolutely howling at THAT picture and his quote "the results speak for themselves"
Looks less like Geoff and more like Andrew Scheer. Eyes have to be way more sunken to be Geoff.
@DonJorginho that would actually be nice, if I’m being honest. No corporate script, no public facing comments. I genuinely believe there’s a lot more to that saga, Sony makes some bad calls but two weeks to the can is highly unusual.
@PaperAlien Maybe he was supposed to look like Mark Chapman from Match of the Day?
I’d rather die than step foot on Fortnite Island.
Somebody needs to get Fortnite Jeff when he’s turning and pointing into a scene with that Vigo the Carpathian painting from Ghost Busters 2!
I do think it's kinda funny how the votes in Fortnite are only for Fortnite related stuff, and not any of the actual Game Award votes.
Also I think it's funny how ai Geoff Keighley sounds more believable and emotional then Keighley reading the script for this video.
No option to repeatedly bludgeon MetaGeoff with a 'Please Wrap It Up' sign; no interest.
Please, let us have LESS of this clown, not more of him.
Ok, I know everyone in the chat loves to jump on a dorky idea and this is a dorky idea. However, if you are watching the awards anyway and want something more entertaining to do while they are plodding along, this idea may be a bit of fun.
The games industry is parodying itself with this one
What a way to get Fornite users to pay attention to the game awards for views/ads, or other companies sake besides the skins in Fortnite or a bonus skin whatever deal he made.
Wow Geoff knows what he is doing here, we all really care........
Lot of business, nothing exciting, trailers may be hit and miss. The awards are a joke what else is new with the newspaper outlets and half gaming/podcast/other types in there, what a really bad committee they have it's a joke.
He has his taste in games and that's fine but at times he can sound like those bad E3 presentations, "I can't wait to play this", "and another I can't wait to play", just like that Scott the Woz saying of it, it comes off as just a celebrity/person not into games and not feeling genuine let alone how Future Gaming/Opening Night Live were hilarious to watch, and the games reflect it, of just a bunch of garbage Indies besides the handful of good ones, obvious games from publishers that don't do E3/Gamecom and others which is fine but you either know them already or you don't care, AAs trying but not communicating well to the audience they want to target to expand people's eyes on them besides those who already will be excited for the game, it's just a load of nonsense and not believeable anymore, this other thing that makes you sound like you aren't.
For the AAs when I know them, wasn't interested and see others that never knew about them go I'm not interested I can tell it's their bad communication but like the companies care I guess they keep messing it up then improving, too many words, too many systems/story and world appeal no one cares about they want to shove down people's throats and I feel bad for them but they never learn. XD
For a guy that was championing gaming in the past he seems more business man than that these days. Like I care but still.
If we wants to be a meme or like Death Stranding in Fornite and be so over businessman like here just stop it's just sad.
Hahahahaha Epstein’s off limits but Jimmy Savile’s ok. Thought this was a British site?
Can someone please explain why this guy has become such a big deal in the past few years? I’ve tried watching a couple of his shows, and he’s a personality black hole, so what am I missing?
And once more they haven't nominated Psycholonials.
@SuntannedDuck2 he was always just a businessman. What's sad is that he's made a successful business in appointing himself arbiter of gaming culture
@ChopperCampbell Money, marketing, and an insular gaming media echo chamber.
I would rather stick massive pins in my eyes than spend anytime with Geoff Keighley
@SuntannedDuck2 Last years game awards were so embarrassing. The presenters couldn’t even read the auto cues!!!
Keighley is toxic.
@BaldB3lper78 Were they I forget, it's been that long. I must have missed those details when I saw it last year.
@NEStalgia Couldn't agree more. Though you'd think a good businessman would you know, not try to be so in your face. Blend in more and have people read between the lines or is he/others just going, eh people are stupid enough regardless of if I do or don't blend in people won't care.
@SuntannedDuck2 It was amateurish at best
@SuntannedDuck2 Sadly, it's a commentary on what makes up the gamer, or at least the gaming media consumer, that what he's doing is working....
