Insomniac Games says it’s “heartbroken” by the passing of Tony Todd, the veteran actor who voiced Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and the star of hundreds of movies, including most famously Candyman.

Deadline reports that Todd passed away aged 69 on 6th November at his home in Los Angeles.

The statuesque Todd, who stood 6’5”, starred in Oliver Stone’s Oscar-winning Platoon, and went on to feature in a number of popular television shows and movies. He landed his most iconic role in 1992, when he starred as the eponymous Candyman in the legendary supernatural horror film. He reprised the role 30 years later for its 2021 sequel.

The actor’s distinctive voice also brought life to a number of video game characters, including in the aforementioned Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, where he played Venom. “He brought so much joy to our studio and to many fans around the world with his inimitable voice and presence,” wrote developer Insomniac Games. “We are Venom forever.”

His next video game role will be as Locus in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, due out on the PS5 next year.

Our thoughts go out to Todd’s friends and family.
