Monster Hunter Wilds’ recent beta was, let’s be honest, wildly unfinished. Whether you enjoyed the demo or not, running on PS5 in Performance mode the game looked hideous, with some of the poorest image quality we’ve seen all generation.

A new comparison test shows how the PS5 Pro may be able to improve the release, although it’s worth noting that the beta does not officially support Sony’s supercharged system, so what we’re seeing here is Game Boost at work.

The good news is that, while the base version hovers around 50fps in Performance mode, the PS5 Pro can actually go way above it, achieving a locked 60fps outside of some strenuous areas. It also handles Resolution mode much better than the base console, putting it in VRR range.

This is all positive news because with PSSR layered on top, the game should be able to achieve much cleaner image quality with these kind of frame rates. However, Capcom still has a lot of work to do, because this level of output across all consoles will be unacceptable for a final product.

Obviously, as we wrote previously, it’s just a beta and we don’t know how old the build is. But with the game due out in February, the publisher’s going to have to work around the clock to get this title up to scratch. At the very least, it’s clear PS5 Pro will be the best place to play this game on consoles.
