An unlisted YouTube video from the Japanese Square Enix channel has been discovered that shares a short glimpse of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth running in its new PS5 Pro-exclusive Versatility Mode. Delivering "optimized gameplay" that is "tailored" for PS5 Pro, the Versatility Mode is aiming to deliver a 4K resolution at 60 frames-per-second (as per Digital Foundry), and you can see it in action above.
While it's only 30 seconds long, this is perhaps one of the most impressive examples of what the PS5 Pro can do so far. The game looks notably better than its base PS5 counterpart, with better visuals and smoother gameplay to match. The clip of Cloud running through the forest is of particular note, and so too is the glimpse of the Planetarium in Cosmo Canyon. Both areas appear to shine with much richer and more vibrant colours that the base PS5 version lacks. It ends with a quick look of Vincent Valentine looking out across a destroyed city.

Alongside the likes of Alan Wake 2 and Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the Square Enix JRPG from earlier this year is one of the PS5 Pro's premier launch games. The upgraded console is releasing this Thursday, with more than 50 launch titles confirmed overall.
Will Final Fantasy VII Rebirth be the first game you test on PS5 Pro? Let us know in the comments below.

PSSR putting in work!
Just got my call to say I can collect on the 7th. Really looking forward to it. Might even attempt the Platinum and do the second play through of this.
In my PC will look even better! So no thanks, I will wait for the port. 😝😝😝
Funny enough, my biggest complaint with the graphics wasn't the resolution or drop in fame, but actually how the models looked in low lighting, too realistic/weird for my taste, but it really seems like a huge improvement in terms of resolution.
My biggest problem with FFVII Rebirth was the poor textures in certain areas. Is this being fixed too or is it just resolution and performance?
When does the ps5 pro review embargo lift?
oh my goty!
ps5 pro is amazing, maybe i'll consider buying it.
@Kiefer-Sutherland (huge-fan btw) I doubt this will ever change it would be too big of an effort for them, the best scenario I can think of is if some modders would eventually mod a new texture pack for the PC version like the original for PC.
Wish I had a disk drive for my pro so I can expirece this....
This and Alan Wake 2 are going to be what i check out first on Thursday. Getting so excited knowing its only 48 hours away.
Cool.ps5 pro is the best place to play final fantasy 7 rebirth.word up son
@Kloppo Tomorrow i think.
@Kloppo NXGamer said his review is up at 11AM Wednesday, so I guess that's the time for all of them.
Can't wait! Saw Dragon's Dogma 2 clips online and they're equally as impressive as this one. Can't wait!
Cant wait for my ff7 console to get here
So glad I’m not finished with it yet. Just 18 more Jonny collectibles and the legendary challenges/hard mode left for platinum. It’s a brutal slog but I still love it
These articles...guess the PS5 Amateur may as well be consigned to the scrapheap huh :/
@GeeForce nah dude. It's Sony. If anything, we can rest assured that they'll artificially restrict Pro from being able to achieve its full potential just so that the regular install base is not estranged.
Save your money for PC or PS6.
@GeeForce I don’t think so man. The PS5 will still be able to play every game lunched for PS and likely 4 years until the PS6 lifecycle. Unless we get a real next generation. Sony won’t allow for the base PS5 to suffer. Just like MS doesn’t allow series s owners to be punished for not spending the money on the series x.
Well I crumbled and bought a pro. Now I need a disc drive and my god, that's just not happening is it.
@get2sammyb you got a spare drive floating round 😂
Shame media outlets on YouTube were apparently only allowed to publish (pointless) unboxing videos... Must be an NDA thing, I guess...
I’m sorry but I’m not letting one game that I like be the reason why I’d buy a PS5 Pro
Wish there were pro trophies, I've completed most of the games I'm interested in on the launch list.
First World problems
@Vaako007 @TheDudeElDuderino I don't think anyone really believes the PS5 will get left in the dust... it's more about the language used in these articles. "Literally melt your face" "A whole new game" This is hyperbole. Harmless hyperbole I suppose but still.
The Pro is doubtless more powerful but talking like it's a generational leap when it by definition isn't seems weird.
That said I always appreciate the job these guys do on this site or else it wouldn't be my go to regarding PS news.
It does look sharper, i don’t agree about the “whole new game” marketing terms…
@nicc83 Have you tried playing videogames for fun and not some meaningless digital participation trinkets?
@MrPeanutbutterz Christ dont look at my list then
@TheDudeElDuderino Nah, other way round, we’ll get far far more unoptimised games on PS5 now that’ll benefit from brute force PS5 Pro specs. Wouldn’t be surprised if there were financial incentives from Sony to ensure that.
Unlike a few titles which show a nice but modest improvement, this does look like a generation apart from the PS5 version - although thats based on the PS5 version being behind the curve in performance mode visuals.
I did also read a headline about a game launching soon that will only be 30fps on PS5, but 60fps on Pro - due to UE5 use, but im not sure how true the headline was.
@MrPeanutbutterz I do all the time. Trophies are a nice extra that add to the fun. Hence the "first World problem" comment.
Have you tried not being a judgemental Internet *****?
I still waiting on that FF XVI PS5 Pro patch announcement
@DennisReynolds Enjoyed it sir. I really love alan wake 2. And playing on Pro must be another new experience.
@zupertramp fair point mate. I just misinterpreted your original comment. Yes you are right that the Pro isn't next generation. Perhaps the informed people know this but perhaps those whom are less informed whom read into the marketing terms will be lured into getting a pro. Thinking its going to fundamentally change the same games out now. Then those could be the biggest people disappointed.
"More vibrant colours"
As well as PSSR and a few more TFLOPS, does the PS5 Pro have a newly extended colour gamut? HDR10++? HDR20?
@nicc83 Do you really? Because someone who does wouldn't make the comment you did.
@MrPeanutbutterz Yeah ok pet.
@GeeForce My feelings exactly. When I read this headline, my thoughts are: "why was this allowed to be released in such a state for the base ps5?"
PS5 PRO - The console that allows you to play the ps5 games in decent state.
Are you ready to finally really, for real this time, play PS5 games?
Just $700 without a stand OR disc drive!
Just a sidenote - Why so so many people feel the need to go out of their way to tell the world that theyre not buying ps5pro and why.
Its always the same people under every article.
So happy to hear that my PS5 cannot run properly PS5 games. What a great investment so far. Speaking of investing money: the cheapest gaming PC in my hardware store with a RTX 40something GPU starts at the same price as the PS5 Pro+disc…
@species It's a shame, I'm very new here but have noticed it myself. it just shows up the worst sides of human nature that I don't enjoy!
Why can't people who aren't even getting a Pro just be happy for all of us who are? Much less stressful for them than sniping and being negative over and over for the sake of it too! No-one likes a fun sponge or a drama llama lol
@HappyGamerGirl I feel you, ps5 is my first console and i always thought the PC “masterrace” is the most toxic of all.
Imagine my surprise when i found out that even the most vitriolic people on dota2 cant hold a candle to a standart console enjoyer.
Probably the only game worth it on a pro tbh.
@GASEOUS It'll run worse too until mods fix it after a year.
@DennisReynolds Yeah same never played Alan wake 2 before and I've been itching to replay rebirth.
Yes, let's celebrate buying brute force hardware to fix devs that can't optimize a game to work properly on the hardware you already have, even when said game is exclusively made for that specific hardware. Remember when console players made fun of PC gamers for this?
Absolutely ready for my Hard Mode and Chadley’s hardest sim battles in the coming months 😎😎😎 Cannot wait to replay the actual game/story outside release month that’s not just me destroying my mind with all the mini-game grinds :’))))))))
@zupertramp Yeah, what we're seeing here is like if a guy had a PC and started to play The Witcher 3, for example, on medium settings and then put it on high settings and started screaming about his face melting and how he's now basically playing the Witcher 4. It's a bit sad too because it still looks worse than it could on a PC so, even though I mainly game on PS5, it does reinforce the console peasant stereotype.
I feel like if the Push Square guys got a good PC, they could entertain themselves all day by opening games and raising draw distance and texture resolution. They'd be in tears of joy from just turning on ambient occlusion.
@Whately86 I’m not that techy so I can’t tell you the answer but I did read ff16 can’t hit 4K 60fps on a 4090 pc. This isn’t a sony problem
@B0udoir and they will defo be able to play rebirth at 4K 60fps? And adding in a Disc drive isn’t a fair comparison as what you gonna do with a pc disc drive? You acting like pro is some kind of massive rip off but this is how much things cost! It’s about a tenner for a kfc meal nowadays 🤣
@danzoEX
I definitely wouldn't either. Luckily, there's a cartload of good games, some of which are in my backlog, that are getting upgrades and I look forward to playing them.
There's also the fact that most games moving forward will have a PS5 Pro mode that makes the experience better (even if sometimes it's only marginally better).
You can bet your butt that MH: Wilds will look significantly better with a PS5 Pro, and I cannot wait to see what they do with Ghost of Yotei.
@B0udoir
It can though. I played it and found it played and looked fine, except for a bit of blurriness on performance mode. Just because a new console can do it better doesn't mean the old one "can't".
@nessisonett Why on earth would you think that? Most Sony games ran quite well on base ps4 even after ps4 pro came out. And most Sony games run quite well on base ps5. You'd think they'd focus on kneecapping their own games for base systems (which would be free) over paying third parties to kneecap their own games.
@Matroska LOL, so much this. I'm finding it honestly funny both from fans and media reading all the conversation around how absolutely revolutionary this is, that it's changing gaming forever, as though all these people are seemingly unaware that this has all existed before, since before the PS5 launched at all, and isn't anywhere near the top of what already has existed for years now. It's one thing to say that for one's own budgeting and options it represents the convenience to budget to performance ratio that works for them, but this hyperbole as though something new and unique is happening by being able to set sliders to medium-high is equal parts hilarious and depressing.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. We shouldn't have to buy a PS5 Pro in order to playing Rebirth at even an acceptable resolution at 60 FPS. There are plenty of games that do just that on the base PS5. I'm not saying that this doesn't look great or that it shouldn't look better on the Pro. Of course it would, but it also shouldn't be in the condition it is on the base PS5 either in regards to Performance mode.
@KilloWertz well said. I feel like it is legitimate to not be happy that the PS5 cannot run properly a PS5 game. This is dishonest to ask customers to buy a new upgrade. It’s not like HFW that was running great on PS4 and PS5 was bringing a little bonus. We are taking about PS5 games that have bad performance on their dedicated system and requires a brand new one.
@GASEOUS I mean probably not tbh. You'll just get a higher frame rate and wait another year for it
I ordered the ps5 pro vertical stand. Want a PS5 Pro, but all i can afford is the stand.
@B0udoir It's not that the PS5 can't run it. I'm sure if the developer put some effort into it, they could get Rebirth to run at an acceptable resolution at 60 FPS. That's the issue I have. Not with the console. There's no way a big budget AAA game should be running at a resolution so low that it's actually blurry on Performance mode.
@Andy22385 if I get better frame rates that's a total win for me, and even at a lower price? Sucess! I can wait another year to replay it ;D
@RedRiot193 AW2 is fantastic easily one of the best this gen but will warn it has some of the cheapest nastiest jump scares out there.
@GASEOUS I mean you aren't getting both looking better and more frames at a lower price 😂 my PC certainly couldn't and it was more
Looking like a whole new game? 😂
Yes, it looks better, but come on now...
No wonder the gaming industry has been going downhill people care more about what something looks like than the actual gameplay
@Andy22385 ooooooh Sorry for the confusion matte, I mean the game price will be lower as usual haha at least where I live anyways.
@HappyGamerGirl Because this whole genration has been a joke. And it seems that, out of the people that are indeed getting a pro, most aren't affected by the changes Sony's imposing, so they don't care.
But for some people, like me, getting a PS5 was quite an investment. It's not like I can just decide to spend $700 on a console that is supposed to be a mere improvement. In my particular case, I live in Brazil. $700 is about R$4,060, which is over half my salary.
Then, you stop to take a look at the recent games coming out. The amount of remakes, remasters. The amount of games released in a poor state (this is not sony's particular problem, just adds to the sour taste this gent has left). The amount of games still being cross gen, which means they can never really explore the differential qualities of the PS5 that make sit next gen, since the game has to be playable in the last gen as well.
The very disappointing number of exclusives so far, lack of updates on what's actually coming (and more or less when), and a few of the stuff that we do know is being cooked, we don't really have an interest in (The live service games).
The controller prices went up (understandable on it's own, just adds up in this list), the faceplates for PS5 slim and Pro not being interchangeable is a complete joke (they are practically the same, but Sony changed the hooks on the Pro so you can't use them. That's just out of pure greed.
Then you release a pro version of your system, when the generation doesn't feel it's been soaring, although we've been in if for 4 years. Price at $700 and not even include a stand & disc drive? Sorry, it's just too much.
And no one is saying whomever is buying can't be happy or can't buy. Go on ahead and use your money the way you want, you're free to. But it's one thing for you to allow yourself the right to enjoy and overpriced console. It's also my right to complain, as much as I want.
Absolutely no right we have to day was given out of love. Every single thing we hold as normal nowadays were fought for by people who dared to complain and stand up.
But here, it seems we have a lot of Sony fans that get offended if you speak your truth as if you had no right to complain since you consume.
And the more the number of players that can access these products go down, the more the prices will go up. And eventually, a LOT of players that were super comfy with their spending, will find out they can't reach that far anymore.
Maybe then, they'll start complaining as well.
@DennisReynolds yeah I've seen those. Seem very annoying. Wish you could turn them off.
@NeonPizza Nah, Wukong is what happens when devs push too high a graphically demanding game on console. Rebirth is what happens when an incompetent team that can't use an engine well also DGAF. It's just UE5, it doesn't look that graphically demanding, it's just poorly made and not at all optimized.
The thing with getting VR to 90fps is probably CPU-bound by a lot. There's a lot of image processing going on for VR. DLSS sometimes is hit or miss on PCVR as well, and PSSR isn't up to DLSS standards either, so the main draw of PS5 Pro, the scaler may not end up that usable for VR. (may work better on some games than others. Most games on PCVR recommend against using DLSS, but in some cases it's so bad I've turned it on and have been pleased with the result.)
(Edit: The reason AI scalers are dodgy for VR, is that they have random/unpredictable scaling results, unlike a traditional scaler that does the same thing to every pixel, and for VR the left and right images can then end up scaled to different results, meaning they don't match, and you end up with artifacts.)
@NeonPizza Rebirth isn't pushing anything, it's just really really really bad use of ue5 😂
Composite cables in the early 90s? Man, I didn't we a composite until the late 90s, just before svideo. I was still rocking RF connectors back on the early 90s 😂
Second you on getting older on every level. My memories aren't fading yet, though! 🤣
The thing with VR is it's just really rough on hardware. Double rendering (2 cameras), super sampling required (lens distortion adjustment), and the higher the fps (remember DOUBLE, 60fps from 2 cameras means 120 actual frames rendered per second, 90=180fps!) the higher the CPU load. Vr is literally nearly double the work. At high resolutions. How does quest do it? Simple gfx, simple environments with much less going on etc.
Tldr: when you're playing a VR game you're playing 2 different scenes on two different high res displays simultaneously. Ideally you'd even want two different gpus, one for each eye, but that doesn't really exist and introduces other issues which is why Nvidia finally ditched SLI link. It's not exactly DOUBLE as demanding because some resources are shared, but some aspects are double and others are 60-90% more demand.
Holy Cow! The PS5 Pro is looking like a game changer- literally!
@NEStalgia Rebirth does not use UE5.
@GASEOUS OMG it's still using UE4 and still manages to run that poorly?? I do not have enough palms to face.
