Unboxings of the PS5 Pro are now starting to appear online, and if you have already unboxed a standard PS5, well... the experience appears to be the exact same. Having watched a few of them, it appears Sony is using the exact same style of cardboard box, both on the outside and how it arranges the console, controller, and cables on the inside. It seems a very uneventful procedure, but it does help to continue the company's pledge of making its packaging more eco-friendly.
Inside the box, you'll find a PS5 Pro, white DualSense controller, the power and HDMI cables, leaflets, and small plastic stands to help the console be positioned horizontally. Sony appears to have included the official PS5 stand with units sent to media and creators, but this is a separate purchase for consumers. So too is the detachable disc drive if you want to play physical discs.
Do you still get a thrill from unboxing consoles? Let us know in the comments below.

Definitely excited! Can't wait for Thursday and I hope everyone else gets their Pro's on release day.
I used Sony Direct so hopefully all good.
@HappyGamerGirl
PlayStation Direct is a great place to buy things, especially if you have PS+.
I waited to buy PS5 Pro from Target, so I could get a tiny discount with my Target Circle card. Unfortunately, Target does not ship the Pro until release day, so I am estimated to receive mine three days later. That's not too bad as it gives me a little more time to get through the game I'm currently playing, Immortals of Aveum, so I can break in the PS5 Pro with Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth and both Horizon games.
PS5 packaging has been quite uneventful this gen, but I know Sony worked really hard to make it all completely recyclable, which is important in this day and age.
Shame those that get gifted a Pro for free also get a stand whilst we have to pay for one on top of the £700 (£800 with disc)!
Can't wait though, don't wanna wish my life away but why can't it be Thursday already 😂
I don't really get a kick out of an unboxing video but doing it yourself is great fun. It's super exciting getting new hardware, I hope everyone getting one has fun on Thursday!
Not sure what else one could expect from a box. Same shape and size, would be odd to redesign it.
if pro comes with disc then we talk
@HappyGamerGirl
Same here.
PS Direct have taken my money and updated to preparing to ship.
@Macver1ck It doesn't, and won't.
@Macver1ck
Such fuss.
Just by a disc drive.
If it came with one it would be more expensive.
So at least you have an option of the extra cost.
@Mostik
Only 3 sleeps 🛌 to go 🤣
@OldGamer999 I don't think I will get much sleep on Wednesday night at this rate 😂 it's great getting new hardware, hope my delivery is early Thursday morning & I wonder if the first boot up will be unique like the base PS5 was?
I like the Dragon Quest slime that's pretending to be a PS5.
It was really exciting when the PS5 launched, I remember watching a few unboxing videos.
@HappyGamerGirl hope you get yours Thursday!
Sadly I’m going to have to wait a whole extra day as my shipping says Friday 😬 it’s not through ps direct though so you should be good!
@Dodoo Thanks! Just seen on an unboxing vid that the review embargo is 11am on Wednesday so not long before all the info is out there for us.
Jeez...too bad the PS5 Pro is as massive as the original PS5.
Now we need a PS5 Pro Slim
😂😂😂😂
I still think it the price is too heavy for a machine that makes old games look a bit prettier….
Just got a buyer for my PS5 digital! After selling it, and my discounts. I’ll end up paying $320 for my Pro! Simply. Can’t. Wait!!!!
@HappyGamerGirl cool roll on Thursday! 😊
No one seems to be reporting on the fact that the specs that were leaked a good deal back where wrong in terms of GPU power. Those Leaks stated 33 teraflops.
In the unboxings we now know that the official manual for the Ps5 pro states it's only a little more than 16 teraflops. Only 4 more than the xbsx and 6 more than the base ps5...
Why does this matter? It doesn't lol, none of this does.
However, consider this: you have continued to be blasted with marketing and the fan human defenders give reasonings such as the idea that an equivalent pc GPU/setup could not be made for the the Ps5 pro asking price and Thus it's a valid price point.
That rational was based on those leaked/assumed specs....
Gee..... I wonder why Sony didn't correct that pre release, or even release official specs at all during that time...
@AhmadSumadi Imagine spending $400 for the ability to play THE EXACT SAME GAMES but, hey, now you can see a background image that has nothing to do with the actual game.
I'm just saying I'd rather keep my launch PS5 and spend $400 on new games between my consoles.
But hey, can't cure brand-blindess
@Trojan I take it that you still have your old 720p TV from 10 years ago? Because you can watch all the new stuff on those. No need to ever want an upgrade. Anyway, enjoy that Progressive Scan Vizio.. ✌🏾
@AhmadSumadi I buy things actually WORTH the money. But I get it. You saw a shiny thing. You had to get it. You couldn't resist the urge call "fanboyism".
But people aren't smart with their money.
I have a Hisense 4k QLED btw. But clearly you still have that Vizio to remember progressive scan lol whatever kiddo
@AhmadSumadi If I had a tv from 10 years ago then that TV will clearly outlast your PS5 pro. But hey! You helped out Herman Hulst get his checks!
@OldGamer999
Exactly. PS5 Pro owners will have the option to plop on a disc drive. Something that's on it's way to extinction with PS6 anyways. I'm digital only when it comes to Switch & PS5. The writing is on the wall. PS5 game cases are flimsy, cheap, throwaways, with an ugly sterile white banner & ugly all-black PS5 logo, topped with legal agreement warranty slathered all inside the case(if you don't get inside out artwork), more than half the backside is also caked in warranty etc, and the discs them selves look bland and straight up awful. Take a look at the recent Silent Hill 2 unboxing. lol
Ya, I wouldn't want that junk eating up my space. On the flip side, you gain re-sale value which is a HUGE plus obviously. But eh, we're nearing to an all digital future with gaming anyways. I just wish digital titles were a little cheaper and they had a return window policy, even if it just allowed you to give the game a test drive for 30 minutes.
Also, 3rd party and now even 1rst party physical releases get releases months after the digital. Sketchy practice, when these companies know their buyers will often double dip with both. And then you have Limited Run, that take can often take over a year to ship their games out. lol what a completely load of BS. That's too stressful in my eyes.
XBOX will no longer support physical with their next console, PS6 won't come with a Disc drive(Sold separately) and physical games will be even less plentiful and probably even more bare bones artistically. Nintendo themselves will be the last company to hang on. I myself am over it. I don't care about bare bones vaccant modern physical video game media, and i don't like the idea of being 'attached' to plastic and cardboard anymore. The retro stuff from the 80's and early 90's still has a hold on me though.
@AhmadSumadi
That Pro design desperately needs the OG/PS1 multi-coloured decal instead of the all-black, topped with an Aqua blue ring stand. lol
Sony doesn't like to make their consoles and game controllers look fun anymore that's for sure. The PS1 in 1995 looked amazing, and it still does...ever since then, starting with the PS2, it's been mostly a black & white sterile box'd crap shoot.
