The wonderful Stellar Blade has secured top marks in its home market of Korea, with Shift Up's explosive debut into the console space sweeping all seven categories at the Korea Game Awards. Beginning in 1996, this home-grown award show recognises excellence and achievement from Korean developers, who are quickly becoming known for innovative experiences.
Since Korean gamers primarily play on PC and mobile, it's notable that both Stellar Blade and last year's winner, Neowiz's Lies of P, are console games. Shift Up secured the Excellence Award and the Technology Creation Award last year for its global mobile hit, Goddess of Victory: Nikke, and we'll be excited to see what's next for the studio.
It's been an impressive year for Shift Up; did you pick up a copy of Stellar Blade? Where does it stand in your own GotY consideration? Let us know in the comments section below.

Yeah, looking at the awards it received, I can’t exactly disagree. It definitely is a top contender in those categories with a chance of winning.
Been keeping my eye on this one (giggity). If the add on content comes out and doesn’t butcher the trophy list, I’ll be picking this one up post haste.
@MeanBeanEgg not really mobile gacha but they are more on the MMORPG side which they have been doing since the 2000s, still looking forward to Korea pursuing console games.
@breakneck Yes it is news considering how S.Korea loves their MMO & mobile games, i'm surprised Stellar Blade won multiple awards.
This year had way too many great games, but Stellar Blade is still my personal GOTY.
Awesome. Game launched bug free, excellent combat, design and music. Points could be pulled for story and dialogue but not much really. And the fact that Shift Up has added a bunch of content post launch, not because it was planned but because they realized how great their game is is a good look! Cant wait for photo mode and NieR Automata crossover next week! I hope this game wins something at the Game Awards too. It's deserved.
Well deserved! I’m waiting until the first anniversary mark to do NG+ because more content and patches will come out. But I had a blast with it!
I still have not purchased this yet. When this released I was kneck deep in helldivers 2 and then dove straight into sim racing..I really need to grab ASAP.
@Dalamar Yes, same for me. Astro Bot is really close second.
@breakneck no different than western award bodies promoting various mainstream western games. Ignoring popular eastern titles.
@Dalamar that’s the thing that always bothered me about any game award. There are so many different types of games. Similar to how I feel about an RPG costing the same as a 90s style fighting game.
@Northern_munkey yes, you need to. Still my top game of the year netting me 2 play throughs, and one of them being a gutting of the game. One more fly through when my mate gives it back and iwill have my last trophy. Story was a little light but for me everything else was spot on.
Pope wins Vatican City Man of the Year Award
Last year Lies of P, this year Stellar Blade.
Thats why game awards are mostly a joke, it will never be objective, hence Spider man winning on pushsquare last year.
It's my runner-up GOTY only behind Metaphor. It delivered on damn near every front for me. Just a really great game. Considering it's Shift-Up's first console title too they should be very proud of how it turned out.
@Northern_munkey Im in exactly the same situation mate. Since I missed it at launch I thought Id pick it up once it got reduced, but it hasnt been in any sales since, so I wont buy it. Im prepared to pay £70 for a lauch day title, but once its over 6 months old theres no way Im paying full price for it 😁
@themightyant This is specifically for Korean developed titles?
Would you care to mention another Korean developed game that you feel should have won instead? You normally make complete sense to me, but in this case your assertion of bias seems out of character, unless you didnt read the bit stating this was for Korean devs only..
@Titntin Thanks mate. I didn't read it thoroughly enough to see this is SOLELY for Korean developed titles, my bad. Have deleted my comment as it was wrong. That makes far more sense now.
Personally I really enjoyed the game and glad it did well at the awards. I think it is probably the best game I have played in 2024, though that accolade could possibly fall to The Bannishers. I'm hoping that both do well at the Game Awards this year...
@themightyant Ah, that does explain it 😁 It did seem a bit out of character!

@BIG3 yes though it’s not completely bug free. When my pro arrived I thought I’d have another run through but have got to a point where new missions aren’t being activated 🙁
@Dodoo Ive done 4 playthroughs (3ng+) and finished boss mode, sitting on 100% completion and havent encountered a single problem or bug. Not even one incident of wonky camera.
@BIG3 yes I think on the whole there’s very little in the way of bugs. I originally played through NG+ without a hitch at launch also.
It’s only this play through on the pro where I’ve encountered this. Is also a game-breaker sadly though I do have the option to travel to the end game through Adam’s safe house, just can’t do all the side stuff.
@species not sure why lies of p being top in these awards was a bad thing. The game is excellent and seeing as these awards are all about the home grown Korean games it makes an awful lot of sense..unlike your comment.
When it works, it just works for them!
Great! A sequel is inevitable at this point 😁
It’s deserves it and much more 🥰
Meanwhile in the West - Concord & Dragon Age Veilguard are in the running for GOTY
IMO 1000% GOTY GOTD GOTC GOTE
Bought this last weekend, havent had a proper chance to get into it yet though, prob played over an hour, enjoyed what ive played so far though. Im off after next week so will have more time to sink into it properly.
@AfroMario S.Korea developed:
S.Korea devs are pretty advanced, well maybe not in the same level as Japan, EU, or US. But i'm not surprised in the next 5-10 years they in the same level or even surpassed the big 3.
Begging for this to go on sale this black friday <3
I'm looking forward to the Singapore game awards. Rumor says Skull and Bones may make a clean sweep.
