As promised, Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 is getting a big ol' update in December. Patch 5.0 is adding a new Operation — one of the game's co-op-focused missions — along with new customisation options for coloured helmet lenses, and support for PS5 Pro. Hurrah!
Developer Saber Interactive hadn't made a definitive statement on PS5 Pro up until now, with many a PlayStation player asking whether the highly-rated action-shooter would be getting beefed up on Sony's mid-gen machine.
Basically, Space Marine 2's going to make use of the Pro's PSSR, boosting resolution across both of the game's graphics modes.
The 30 frames-per-second Quality mode will see the maximum resolution jump from 1440p (with an FSR upscale to 4K) to 2160p (with a PSSR upscale to 4K).
Meanwhile, Performance mode will go from a minimum resolution of 720p (ouch!) to 1080p, and a maximum resolution of 1080p to 1440p. However, the big selling point here is that the 60fps Performance mode will also benefit from PSSR, which will attempt to push the image quality to 4K.
We don't have a confirmed launch date for update 5.0 yet, but developer Saber Interactive says that it should be with us in the first half of next month. Patch notes will probably be dropping in the near future.
Are you still playing Space Marine 2? Might you return for this PS5 Pro update, and the new Operation? Start revving that chainsword in the comments section below.

Is this suffering from shimmering ?
Even with the power of the Pro they can only bump it up to 1080p? Well it's better than no update I guess.
I can't wait to exterminate some heretical xenos, sadly it'll have to wait in line. But having too many good games to play is a problem I'll gladly endure. 😁
Damn i just started this, on hold now for the patch.
Nice! I was considering picking up a copy for Series X since it runs better than the PS5 version, but with my recent pick up of a PS5 Pro, I'll get the PS5 version instead.
"the 60fps Performance mode will also benefit from PSSR"
You sure about that? I expect another example of shimmering and artifacts.
now there's a dev that understands that 720p base resolution is too low to truly benefit from PSSR and FSR. 1080p base should be fine hit higher resolutions, even if they'd stuck with FSR.
Good timing as just ordered this earlier today so a little more value gained from my pro!
I just got this in the sale. I'm glad I saw this article. Going to wait for the patch
man if they f*ck up this patch and show the glory of playstation spectral shimmer resolution again I‘m done.
Man….this game looks and plays so smooth on my ps5 pro on quality mode. To get the most you gotta have a high end tv like a OLED or your preference but top shelf. Then I know 99% of you are playing on game mode with all those restrictions, again if you have a low brand tv then ya you’ll have to or the input lag could be terrible. If you have an OLED I set it to my visual liking (I turn the sharpness up, change the temp to cool, turn the color up to 60-64, resolution max, brightness and OLED 90-95, all those stupid dampeners off like noise reduction, turn off ALLM if you have it set on the tv, MOTIONFLOW OR CINEMOTION ON and smooth (this is KEY for 30fps as it’ll take all those blurriness away and make it seem more like 60fps) now most will say LAG!!! Yes…if you have a low brand tv, gotta get a top shelf OLED 😉. Next once you have your tv settings to your liking, go onto the console, turn OFF ALLM (if not this will force game mode). Transfer rate set to auto UNLESS you have extreme motion jitter which means your tv does support the transfer speed, in that case set it to “-1” and it’ll be perfect then.
Ok so now calibrate the hdr on the console, black level should be auto but if it looks like black crush or washed out try selecting limited or full, it has to match your tv so the black level will say low or high meaning “limited or full” so limited goes with low and high goes with full. VRR I also toggle on or off depending on if the game uses it on the best mode or not. If VRR is best then once that’s toggled on it will also trigger ALLM thus forcing game mode so you will end up having to adjust those visual settings if you do this, but it will NEVER look as good as standard, game mode dampens and dulls the picture and colors even if you dive deep into the settings, I spent house and even then when I wanted the best picture the frame rate would make it unplayable. So this is the best visuals and motion flow /cinemotion helps it look like 50-60fps with no jittering while in motion. HDR always on too.
Once that’s all good then you should be on standard hdr while launching a game. I always pick quality, but if I do choose performance pro like Spider-Man it’s really wild, true 60fps with no jitter is amazing and I feel zero input lag which I’m sure a bunch of you will say I do but I don’t and I’m having a blast 🤷♂️. Try it. I tried the VRR mode on stellar blade and I didn’t notice anything past 60fps, the 120 mode looked like the 60fps and just looked dull because again, VRR will force ALLM which forces game mode. So I went back to the pro mode that’s a solid 60fps and 4k via pssr on the OLED on standard with cinemotion on smooth and 🤩 perfection.
I tried silent hill 2 on graphics mode with my settings and yes there’s still shimmering on things and the ray tracing seems odd. But it’s smooth! Swapped over to game mode with out cinemotion and 🤮 how do people play like that!?????? 30fps with no cinemotion is just disgusting and I can not play that, how do you see? Everything just blurs. If I could add video on here I would. It’s insane.
Anyone else like me?
Lg oled 2023 model & Ps5 pro
Dude this is about a ps5 pro patch, bro just wrote an essay about tv calibration 💀
There is no FSR involved for the Pro modes. They clearly indicate PSSR for both modes in the table. It’s not confusing.
@Bamila Sony is really in a very bad position with PSSR... Implementations are really mixed in results/quality. I don't understand what level of QA is undergoing from both the devs and Sony itself, I would have imagined that for the firsts titles Sony would be more involved in helping to achieve good results... So it's either "devs are left alone to their luck" or PSSR at it's current state is not good. And I do have a Pro, it's not that I'm talking just because. The thing is you now read "... using PSSR to improve the quality..." and there are more chances that quality will suffer other than improve. A shame.
@Slug_full_of_metal G4 only way to fly
Finally. Let's hope they don't screw it up.
@Slug_full_of_metal Doesn't matter your TV it ain't saving you from the low 40's SM2 can reach on PS5 what is out of the VRR reach.
@Slug_full_of_metal For the love of God, please separate paragraphs. It was a chore to read this.
@JustCameHereToSay yes, I know, but also of course they know "the roadmap" to get good quality, in the end if Sony needs more time to train the model... it's already known all the work required for dlss to look good... maybe should have launched PSSR later (I mean for games is bad shape), or issue a statement letting the users know about this. I'm a software engineer so I understand about incremental improvements and else, but it's NOT a step in the right direction what Sony did, horrible renditions of PSSR free in the wild.
I hope we get decent PSSR for all games, but the lack of feedback from Sony is alarming. Also what devs are doing, their implementation is a mess and they release it anyway!
@Cerny
And the patch isn't even out yet.
@MattSilverado being quite dramatic aren't you? Five or so games out of 50+ pro enhanced games have issues (3 are lazy Ubisoft), but PSSR is in a really bad position? Yeah keep telling yourself that. People just want something to complain about online.
@NintenGuy check the facts. Compare visual quality and/or what you get from it. I'm not dramatic. I got a Pro day one (and I think PSSR will be key and will get better), I just pointing Sony is leaving this to luck, luck being how much work/effort is the developer putting into PSSR. Take Alan Wake 2, can you say Remedy is not up to the task? But the result is pretty bad, so what's up? Is the internal resolution is too low then don't use PSSR, etc.
But the point is, yes, I keep saying Sony is in a bad position. Please read the release notes for EVERY PS5 Pro patched have, they say "you will get better quality..." and do you think it's what you are getting? It's kind of a joke. I play games since late 80s, PC, consoles, I did own very much all early 3d accelerators so I do know what you get as an early adopter, your mileage can vary... It s ok if some implementations/games with PSSR are better than others, but there situation is kind of comical right now. You get a game with PSSR and you almost know it will look worse that without it, that's a fact, not my words. But in the end I don't get how the devs release something in bad shape and call it "better" (say Jedi survivor). Enough... Just wanted to get it out of my chest.
