We feel a bit sorry for Need for Speed Unbound; it launched back in December 2022 with almost no fanfare at all, despite being arguably the best game in the series in years. Still, while it's flown way under the radar, it's quietly been receiving great post-launch support all this time, with the next big update coming very soon.
The Vol. 9 update introduces Lockdown, a PvPvE multiplayer mode inspired by Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005). It's a sort of extraction mode, where teams of three players compete against each other to "complete Contracts, break into Lockup areas, navigate the treacherous Lockdown Zone, and secure the Extraction truck".
If you win, you'll be rewarded with new vehicles, all inspired by Most Wanted's Blacklist — yes, including the iconic Custom BMW M3 GTR '05.
Also of note is that Lockdown brings the first ever motorbike in the history of Need for Speed with the BMW S 1000 RR 2019, helping you outmanoeuvre the cops and rival racers.
Vol. 9 also adds new playlists, including motorbike-only events, and other challenges to conquer. On top of that is a new Speed Pass to work through, with another new car to unlock — two if you have the premium tier.
The update arrives on 26th November, and you can find more info here. Will you be checking out Lockdown in NFS Unbound? Tell us in the comments section below.

So the tires repaired themselves.
As long as they don't add new Trophies, I'm all for it. Played and Platted it as part of PS Plus Extra.
The game has 'PS Plus Essential' written all over it, wouldn't be surprised to see it in the monthly line-up somewhere in the next twelve months.
My issue with this game was the cops. Wayyyy too aggressive and made it a pain in the ass to get through the career.
This is LAST content update to game. There was already great deals for Ultimate edition which includes all paid seasonal content. But don't expect anything new after 3 months or more. This is it. But it has plenty of things to do etc. And all these updates are for Online. Base Story campaign hasnt been changed since release.
Well I just bought it dirt cheap recently but haven't tried it yet so I guess I'll wait for the update.
I really should play this. Played Underground 1 and 2 and Most Wanted 2005 over the last couple years and they hold up brilliantly.
Brilliant game, shame they didn't keep adding trophies to entice us back more. Surely they can't take much effort and would result in lots of players coming back to get the 100%.
I enjoyed this a fair bit more than I expected to. I wasn't a big fan of the cell shaded effects and I thought the voice acting was atrocious but I really liked the gameplay and its probably the best nfs game since underground 2.
Apart from the lack of content and one of the gayest stories/bunch of characters in a car-themed tale, this game was fantastic. If they'd have added all these updates within the first year then it could have been even better.
Edit: and I'm talking "gay" in the oldschool, satirical sense in that they're all overly emotional and PC. Where are the badasses from the old days? Weird that I feel I have to clarify this but, as evident in this game, we're living in different times. That speech by A$AP Rocky in the later game is so disgustingly 'inspiring', self-indulgent and safe that it made me feel ill 😂
The games good , the annoying characters not so much , why can't I play as a grumpy old man , instead of a buffoon who dresses like one of those weirdos off the tick tocky.
@Loamy A time where homophobia isn't tolerated? Glad where here and not the old days with the "badasses".
I was interested by this game but got repelled by the reviews saying that the story is cringe and at sitcom-level, with a focus on USA social problems. Not very inviting when you are away from this culture.
@Loamy oof, I know what you mean and all but I can see your comment not going over well with everyone. Just saying.
But yeah that's kinda what put me off from the game... the story and characters were fairly corny. I should really give it more of a chance though.
@MrPeanutbutterz Aren’t we glad that “I meant gay as an insult” isn’t grounds enough for mods to get involved. Jesus wept, it’s not the 90s anymore.
@MrPeanutbutterz @nessisonett this is hilarious considering I'm bi and fully support everything gay rights. Thank you for being offended on my and my friends behalf! We really appreciate it. If you're thinking like this then I'd like to really congratulate you on the reason why the landscape is the way that it is today.
@Loamy Yes and I’ll add that ‘gay’ REALLY isn’t the descriptive you’re looking for.
I’ll say this. I am gay. I know exactly what you’re talking about and I would agree that it’s very annoying and I also miss a time when everything didn’t have to be so sanitised. But (and it’s a very big caveat), gay just isn’t the term to describe it, surely …
EDIT - …yes - talking to your mates in conversation it might well be. I would likely do the same. This isn’t a spoken chat with your mates though, is it?
@Totheteeth I'll say this: you're attaching a certain view to my comment that makes you think I'm a bigot when it couldn't be further from the truth. You must be aware of my sentiment here as its a very common representation of the term.
I don't care if it's my with my mates or not. Thats why I added the edit, for disclosure.
My comment was about the game and it's ridiculously cringy dialogue and nothing else.
@nessisonett just to engage specifically with you...
People like you are the reason I, and friends of mine are treated the way that we are. You virtue signal constantly and it's a depressing lack of nuance and an overt display of virtue signalling. Your conduct on this site is as predictable as it is not wanted by the masses. A walking stereotype is unwanted in all walks of life despite your bubble.
LET. CRITERION. MAKE. A. NEW. BURNOUT FFS 😂 😑
@Loamy you’re super bold for posting a comment like that on pushsquare 😂
on topic though - this game sucks , NFS heat is better, maybe that’s why it’s forgotten. I tried it and everything about it is so boring compared to heat - the setting/city , the story , the characters , the cringe anime effects , the racing is just a watered down version of heat , etc . it’s like they didn’t know what to do with this game. midnight club seriously needs to come back
@nomither6 it's getting to the time where I just don't give a s*** anymore. I've had to read comments from people like nessy time and time again that chatise me for a fact of my life and none of his. If, as a male who's bisexual and has rights for freedom of expression, I'm being potentially censored for a simple, common term that normal people understand, then the world has gone mad.
NFS Unbound has a gay af story and it's unbearable. Those of you who still have a brain know exactly what I mean.
@Loamy some of us hear you loud and clear 🫡
