Dead Space is undoubtedly one of the best horror franchises in gaming, with an excellent remake of the original reminding us of that fact in 2023. In a highly telling reveal, however, original creators Christopher Stone, Bret Robbins, and Glen Schofield (recently of Striking Distance Studios/Callisto Protocol fame) pitched a fourth entry in the franchise in 2024, which EA summarily shot down.

In an interview with Dan Allen Gaming (thanks, IGN), Schofield revealed that the trio tried to pitch the project to publisher and IP holder EA, but it seems the idea of taking another crack at the sci-fi setting is just too risky right now: "We tried, actually, the three of us, Dead Space 4. We’re talking this year. We didn’t go too deep; they just said, ‘We're not interested right now. We appreciate it blah blah blah, and you know we know who to talk to.’ So we didn't take it any further. And we respected their opinion. They know their numbers and what they have to ship, so yeah."

Stone, who served as animation director at the now-defunct Visceral Games, added: "The industry is in a weird place right now; people are really hesitant to take chances on things. So you have to take it with a grain of salt. Who knows, maybe one day. We'd all love to do it."

Would you be up for a fourth Dead Space if it were to get off the ground? Is the memory of the abysmal Dead Space 3 still too fresh? Tack on some multiplayer in the comments section below.
