Kingdom Come: Deliverance II's newly brought-forward release date is slowly creeping up, and Warhorse Studio's expansive RPG is shaping up to be something special. But as anyone who made it out of the first game's opening act can attest, existence in 15th-century Bohemia is surprisingly brutal.
As part of IGN's First coverage this month, Warhorse design lead Prokop Jirsa offered some sage advice for players who want to survive long enough to do any of the fun stuff. It's hard to overstate how devastatingly punishing this seemingly authentic historic survival simulator is. It features real-world historical figures, no magic or any other fantasy elements one might expect.
As KC: DII seems primed to be a mainstream hit, we'll be fascinated to see how audiences specifically react to its hardcore combat and survival mechanics. We can't imagine anything cooler than a punishing game with combat taking inspiration from the Kunst des Fechtens, and we love the idea of constantly managing various meters, such as hunger and sleep, from a first-person perspective in a highly reactive game world. We always thought that made us odd and in the minority, but we increasingly feel seen.
