We've been noting with increasing alarm the leviathan developer RGG Studios appears to have on its hands with the upcoming Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, out 21st February on PS5. In October, the developer suggested that the game would be quite a bit longer than the recent Kiryu spinoff, The Man Who Erased His Name, and that's not including the expectedly ridiculous minigames.
In an interview with Automaton (thanks, GamesRadar+), RGG Studio director Masayoshi Yokoyama says the team didn't intend to make the Majima-centric game bigger than Kiryu's but that the total volume of the game's content means that it is, and so here we are: "The map is huge, there’s a bunch of places to visit, and there are still features we haven’t announced yet. The volume increased by itself." Appropriately, Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will retail for around $10 (or your local equivalent) more than The Man Who Erased His Name, which, if nothing else, shows that RGG is feeling confident about Goro's prospects.
Have you managed to keep up with RGG's constant onslaught of releases? Are you looking forward to a return to Hawaii, but this time, as the Mad Dog of Shimano himself? Let us know in the comments section below.

I'll be getting a PS4 copy from Japan, as Sega aren't releasing it physically here.
Will be an unpopular opinion but I love when they require 100% for the platinum on 'yakuza' games. Kinda missed they stopped that recently. It's a slog but it feels such an achievement when done. I enjoy the yearly hell of Mahjong 🤣. I'd probably never make this comment about any other series. SO much prefer that to making play twice
@Andy22385
I love it too. I have all the plats apart from Ishin (as it’s a majorly boring slog), and there is just something missing with the likes of 6 where it isn’t required.
N.i.c.e. like a dragon pirate yakuza in Hawaii is going to be a amazing video game.word up son
I'll be using all my time on Assassin's Creed Shadows so this one will have to wait.
But I'm sure it'll be awesome.
I’ve been waiting for a solo Majima game since I started playing Yakuza… 5 years ago. Yes, that’s not a very long wait but to me it felt like 100 years as the Push Square’s personal and very much their self-anointed strip club Majima profile pic guy.
@Andy22385 I agree Andy, I've platinumed them all and used to enjoy the challenge (some of the side activities I don't miss though!) of the 100% aspect. I feel like I'm the only person who likes Mahjong!
Looking at the positive, I've gained more hours of my life back as a result though.
instant pre-order for me this. Looks like a hoot
Bruh the consistency in there releases is crazy hopefully people r getting there bonuses
More curious where it lies in length with the other Like a Dragon games
@thefourfoldroot1 I even have that one too. But weirdly I haven't finished 0. Simple because I hate playing games twice for a platinum. Went through the hell of the climax battles and haven't been bothered to play it again in hard mode yet
@Andy22385
Well, most of them require that if I recall, even the likes of the Judgment games and FotNS plats required it I think. By then though you are so overpowered that it’s pretty much just a formality to do while listening to music or podcasts or something. Well done with the Ishin item grind, that was simple enough, but just soul crushing to me to the point it was the only Yakuza game in which I didn’t enjoy the platinum campaign and have had to take a break. I’ll get back to it eventually, probably, to complete the plat connection (apart from dead souls. Hoping they remaster that one).
@thefourfoldroot1 yup both judgements did annoyingly. But I'm a physical gamer and sell once done so I had to power through it to sell 🙃 because 0 was given free its always been there so no rush I guess
@Andy22385
Yakuza 0 took me 3 years for the plat because I took a big break. Just couldn’t get my head around Mahjong initially, but after learning for the plat I now love the game lol.
@RainbowGazelle It might be easier to import an ESRB version. It'll probably have more English functionality than the CERO version.
@Nunab18 I think they both have English support. But yeah, the NA version might be easier. Right now Play-Asia has the JP version for cheaper than the NA version, but I could try Amazon or somewhere else. I might be going on a trip to Japan this year. If I do, then it'll be easy to get the JP version! 😆
