Announced back in November, it's easy to forget that Baldur's Gate 3 is getting another massive update sometime in the near future. But even with such impressive support still ongoing, developer Larian Studios is now giving its "full attention" to what comes next.
It seems likely that Patch 8 will be the last major update for Baldur's Gate 3. It's set to include cross-play functionality, a full photo mode, and a brand new subclass for every existing class. Last we heard, it's on track to release soon-ish, with player testing scheduled for this month.
Larian's already gone above and beyond when it comes to support for Baldur's Gate 3, so we can't blame the team for finally moving on. In a statement to VideoGamer, a representative says: "[Larian CEO and Baldur's Gate 3 director] Swen and the team[‘s]… full attention is focused on crafting their next title".
What's more, Larian's opting for a "media blackout" from this point on, until it has news to share.
Again, it shouldn't be long until we hear more about Patch 8 — but beyond that, it sounds like the studio's going all-in on its next game. It'll having to be something ridiculously special to top Baldur's Gate 3, but it's hard not to have confidence in what is clearly such a talented developer.
Will you be diving back into Baldur's Gate 3 for Patch 8? What are your hopes and dreams for Larian's next project? Pledge your support in the comments section below.

Yep, I'm gonna at least try the photo mode 😏
I want to like this game, but I suck at it lol
I own but haven't played this game yet. Waiting for this update to get started! Can't wait
@Icey664 Take your time with the experience. It's one of those games that greatly rewards your attention to all of it's mechanics and dialogue. It may feel overwhelming at first, but tailor your experience to what's comfortable for you. Of course, if all else fails. It probably isn't for you and that's okay
Ahh what the hell a 4th replay it is then.
Will be keen to check out the cross-platform functionality and give it another good go with a full party of friends for maximum chaos!
But big hopes for Divinity 3! 🤞
If anyone deserves a media break, its Larian....One has to wonder though if the next game will release full fat like Divinity or start as early access like BG3?? 🙂
I'm still cleansing my impure self after the disgusting descent into debauchery I succumbed to with Halsin, Gale and the Drow twins.
I really wanted to do a 2nd playthrough for the Platinum trophy, but Im really bummed every single mod used disables trophies, even just cosmetic ones. Fix that Sven!
Bought this a few months ago, and i rarely say this, i see exactly why it won game of the year. Excellent and well done. I don't love the turn based, but everything else is perfect to my taste.
Have been waiting for crossplay and playing it for the first time with my wife (who has played it at least three times on PC) and another PS5 friend. She'll pretend to be a NPC while we bumble around. It'll be fun
I lost interest in whatever they have planned to do next when it became clear it wouldn’t be making use of a D&D license - I don’t doubt their talent but the Forgotten Realms setting was a big part of what made this game so special to me.
This patch will finally make me get the game. My brother has it on PS5 and we want to play cross-play, but $80 a year on top of the generally higher price for the game on console was too big of an investment to me for a game I’m unsure I’d like.
This way, I can get it on PC for like $48 and play with my brother, instead of like $136 on console. Looking forward to finally giving this game a go sometime soon!
It'll be nice to be able to play with my PC friends. Been waiting for crossplay for a while now.
I still have not bought BG3. Last night I tried to play Divinity Original Sin 2 again, which is very similar and another game from Larian. The concept and storytelling seem interesting, but the execution just can't hold my interest. Top-down or isometric styles and turn-based, point and click mechanics has forever been something I can't get myself to enjoy, though I have tried many times.
@bluemage1989
Really? I think DnD is the worst part of DnD. I can't comprehend what makes people even like that world.
I still haven’t gotten BG3 yet mostly due to the terrible storage space of the PS5.
Hoping to get an SSD this month and depending on money get BG3.
Do the mods disable trophies? As I know they were adding mods to the PS5 version.
Only game I know of that you can enable mods and not have trophies disabled is Ark Survival Ascended
@8bit4Life
That’s because Divinity Original 1&2 and BG3 are CRPG’s.
Warhammer Rogue Trader and Disco Elysium are the same as well I think
@Yakito1988 you obviously havnt played with a good DM then or read RA Salvatore 😃. There is hope for you though if you play tabletop. New edition is in Grey Hawk, no longer forgotten realms.
@Yakito1988 Genuinely. I have absolutely nothing but love for the worlds they create and judging by their success I don’t think I’m the only one.
@Elodin
I played about 20 systems. Deadlands, Cyberpunk and many more. DnD was always my least favourite. I don't like the mechanics, the dice, the leveling, the world.
It'd a franchise to me. Like a McDonald's version of tabletop where you have a Michelin star restaurant for cheaper just next door.
@Yakito1988 ahh ok. Its the system more than the setting you didn't like. I do enjoy D&D, but can see it's not for everyone. Deadlands is a very fun system. I think the simplicity of d20 allows for an easier entrance to tabletop hence more chances to convince your reluctant friend to join. I think Pathfinder has done it the best so far.
@Elodin
Very likely but I found that the first levels in DnD to be very unenjoyable with any GM I ever played. Especially as a wizard.
I actually think DnD is more complex than most other RPGs except Cyberpunk.
