Insomniac has avoided answering questions over whether Marvel's Wolverine could release for PS5 later this year in an interview with Variety. As part of the announcement that Ted Price will be retiring from the developer and replaced by three new co-heads, Variety interviewed the three new leaders and asked about a Marvel's Wolverine 2025 release date.
The outlet explained that Chad Derzern, one of the new co-heads, "would not confirm or deny a 2025 release for the game". Derzern then added: "We’ve announced Wolverine, and we’d love to talk more about Wolverine, but we have to be like Logan today, and remain very stoic until it’s time to pop the claws down the road. As much as we’re as much as we have pent up excitement, we got to hold on to it. So that’s about as much as we could say about our upcoming projects today."
First revealed in September 2021 during a PlayStation Showcase, it's been more than three years since the PS5 project from Insomniac Games. Since then, there hasn't been a single piece of official footage or another trailer. The only way we have seen the title is through an unfortunate hack of the developer that led to early production videos being posted online.
It does not feel like the hardcore PS5 userbase expected Marvel's Wolverine to release this year anyway, especially with Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and Ghost of Yotei already in the pipeline. When do you think we'll finally play Marvel's Wolverine? Post your prediction in the comments below.

Would be nice, but I ain't going to hold me breath.
We already know from the leaks the earliest it can launch is 2026…
They replaced this thing's directors due to creative differences not long ago, so I believe this will drop in late 2026 at the earliest. At this point, it wouldn't shock me if this got delayed to 2027.
Wasn't the Venom game slated for 2025? Wolverine must be 2026.
This game has to be in development hell.
An entire playable PC build was leaked and the game seems incredibly mediocre, judging solely by the gameplay. The gameplay mechanics looked so shallow and basic like a typical run-of-the-mill PS3 era game. It also doesn't bode well that the creative director left mid development.
I don't see this game coming until at least 2026, 2027 more likely if they've hopefully decided to overhaul everything.
Would be nice. Having ghost 2, ds2 and wolverine would be a great line up. Add in a gow remake/remaster and it's one of the great years.
@PorkChopExpress I don't think we'll get that until 2028 with the next ratchet.
@IOI That's not entirely true. Plans often change, and if they cancelled another game in the roadmap before it then they may have more staff to work on it earlier pulling it forward. But I suspect you are right.
The one that is more dubious will be Venom, with the sad passing of Venom Actor Tony Todd, that's not an easy one to solve, especially if the character is going to be reappear in other games going forward.
I'm sure they did this before, but we likely won't hear anything more about Wolverine until either Ghost of Yotei or Death Stranding 2 is released, making sure each game gets the maximum amount of eyes on it before Wolverine, or another first party game, gets a release date (more marketing)
“Beyond Logan and Wolverine 2: An Unending Ubisoft Nightmare” seems to be the working title, as in it’s not working. 😝
Switch 2 can’t launch soon enough. I’m expecting it to have some games since the Switch really hasn’t of late.
Did you all know that Ubisoft has an actual BG&E2 website, and it’s “Latest News” was in 2020?🤣

@truerbluer You want to know what is in development hell, Beyond good and evil 2...
I think it's harsh to judge the whole game off an early build of the game, let's just wait for offical trailers to come out.
I'm not expecting the game this year but I wouldn't be surprised if they release a trailer at the end of the year/at The Game Awards.
Insomniac has been making hit after hit so I have no problem waiting and letting them cook, especially after all the leaks in 2023. If you for some reason judge the game based off a extremely early build then you need to find something better to do with your time lol.
The game will be awesome, just let Insomniac take their time.
I do want another Ratchet and Rivet game though lol.
I really don’t have much interest in the Wolverine game myself, but jeez do I hope they give an update soon, just because that reminder for how long ago it was announced has reminded me how long ago it’s been since PlayStation excitement was palpable. The momentum Sony had at the start of the generation was massive… and then it deflated maybe two years in, and we’ve had a long period of inertia. Even if Astro Bot was the best game Sony’s had this generation so far for me, it can’t carry a whole year of first party games on its own, you know? Especially not after Spider-Man 2 was expected to basically do the same thing the year before.
Even though DS2 and Ghost are the two PS games I could be most excited for, I would love to see Sony to start getting people excited again. Wake up, you sleeping giant!
I don't think it will be out this year. Mainly on the statement from Sony where they said there were releasing one major single player game every fiscal year. Ghost of Yotei being 2025's game.
No surprise!
For every non-Nintendo AAA single player game, the publishers will keep back the release dates as long as possible, to avoid collisions with GTA6.
It feels like insomniac is the only first party dev that’s been working on ps5 development!
Hold on.... This wolverine game was announced 2021?! I'm thinking this was announced last year smh
They're gonna say the release window when the game close to being gold. That way, Sony's marketing division can schedule the advertising and not overlap with other games like Ghost of Yotei, Death Stranding 2, etc.
@truerbluer Relax. The leak was a very early build with plenty of missing features and also unpolished af.
I've noticed a pattern with Marvel games where they get announced before full development has started. As well as Wolverine, see Marvel 1943, EA's Iron Man and Blade.
Most likely for 2026, Q3-Q4 2026 even, this is so bad. I remember that 2021 Showcase, thinking this is a game for the mid-gen, probably around a PS5 Pro would be released, only for it to be a late gen game and probably the last big first party game released before PS6!!! (either this or that Heretic whatever game from ND).
Damn I was so hopeful back in 2021, having HFW and God of War: Ragnarok in sight for 2022, now I'm not a fan of Spider-Man, but we knew the sequel would come in 2023, this gen looked so stacked in the beginning...and then it tanked.
This is why we're saying this gen barely has any games: Spider-Man 2 and the upcoming Ghost of Yotei are the only blockbuster AAA games from first party studios released for the PS5-only (not also for the PS4) in 5 whole years! And they're just safe sequels! Also spare me with Astro Bot, not even Sony considers it a flagship game, based on this: https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2024/02/sony-predicts-slide-in-ps5-sales-with-no-major-existing-ips-planned-before-march-2025
@DonkeyFantasy "I hope it isn't just going to be a re-skinned spidey with the webs removed."
That's exactly what it looked like to me from the leaks, it needs a lot more time in the oven so hopefully it comes out in 2026 or 2027.
@themightyant Yeah pushing forward development doesn’t seem to be a thing so I’m still expecting it 2026-2027, for the Venom game I really don’t know what’s going on, if it comes out this year they need to reveal it ASAP, if the next SoP goes by and it isn’t mentioned then my guess would be that it’s delayed or cancelled.
Not a chance no way
@Sacrosanctus Couldn’t agree more with you, and since that 2021 showcase we haven’t had a good show like that, it’s been beyond disappointing this generation and it’s all because most if not all PS studios were making live service BS that got cancelled, effectively losing 5 years of development time and money, a disaster, just like Push Square out it a few days ago.
@AlexPorto Pretty skeptical at this point that there even is a venom game
Be great... but i doubt it.
@IOI this generation has been good to me. But I don't only play Sony games, and i play many different types of games
If it comes it will come.but my huge backlogs of games got me busy.word up son
Sounds like a possibility then, but unlike other 3rd party studios, I dont see them releasing this until they are good and ready, so may be 2026.
Insomniac have been absolutely GOATs this generation.
It would be better for Sony if they did. Betting the whole holiday season on Ghost of Yotei is risky. It's going to be great but it's a lower-tier of popularity than Horizon (sold twice as much) and Insomniac Marvel games (which sell even better).
They're going up against Switch 2 in the latter half of the year. They can say it's not competition, but people only have so much money to spend.
Clearly a smart move, like Nintendo usually does. Never announce a game or its release too early. There is an army of idiots (investors, producers and gamers alike) that will complain about any delays, because they don't have the brain power to understand a delay might be necessary to release a finished and polished game
@glennthefrog I agree with you that Ghost of Yotei is not enough, but Sony will bet on GTA 6 for the holiday season, yet another year where they've been carried by 3rd parties.
@Sacrosanctus I agree, they're putting a lot of their eggs in that basket.
Personally I think GTA6 is as likely as any game to get delayed. I wouldn't be surprised if it misses the holidays but hits before the end of the fiscal year (March 2026).
For my tastes, Insomniac's pivot to Marvel games is unfortunate. I have no interest in that universe/lore/characters/products. It has been a successful enterprise for them up to now though, so not all is lost. And if any of those Marvel games would spur my interest, I suppose a Wolverine game would be that, provided it's adult-themed, intelligent and doesn't fall for all the usual tropes with Marvel products. Low chance then, but I guess we'll see.
I certainly hope there will at least soon be a new game from a non-Marvel IP. I'd even take a new Ratchet and Clank.
