Hideo Kojima has revealed another of his trademark development updates on Twitter, confirming that he is still "building the game". That game just so happens to be Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, slated to launch for PS5 this year. There are no sneaky shots of the screen or any potential PS5 Pro dev kits this time around; it's simply him sitting at his desk with the adorable Astro Bot-themed PS5 controller.
Given that Death Stranding 2 should be releasing in 2025, it's likely whatever Kojima is "building" forms part of the final stretch towards the end of the game's development. When the PS5 exclusive (at least for now) was given its On the Beach subtitle just shy of a year ago, it was also confirmed for 2025 in a lengthy trailer. Since then, we've only really heard about a Photo Mode that somehow affects the story.
The last meaningful update from Kojima was that all filming and recording for the game was complete as the project entered the "adjustment phase". That was more than six months ago. For a full round-up of everything we know so far about Death Stranding 2, click the link.

May we have an official announcement for a release date soon. This is certainly my most anticipated release this year and I can’t wait to know when I’ll be playing it.
Also, it was obvious before this, but Kojima’s got great taste. Cool to see him plugging the Astro Bot controller. I would not be shocked if, in return for all the Kojima Easter eggs in Astro Bot, he returns the favor somehow in DS2.
We're only just into the first month of the year so I'm hopeful we'll still get it in 2025.
@somnambulance PlayStation jacket is pretty cool tbh.
I would rather Kojima and Konami to kiss and make up and develop another MGS game OR Silent Hills (PT).
It’ll be a shame when these god tier developers from the golden age of gaming eventually retire or pass on and all we’re left with are the ones catering to the Minecraft/fortnite/CoD slobbering masses. May I go long before that bleak and worthless future happens.
Thanks Liam for covering news different to other game sites.
@Oram77 Kojima has already said his next game will be his final game and a return to tactical espionage.
@Reform I do vaguely remember him saying something like that. Maybe it could be a launch title for the PS6.
@Balaam_ Amen to that.
@Reform @Oram77 Can you source where Kojima said that?
Grab your tin foil hats, my friends:
Also, how do you know Kojima and Konami aren’t still friends? There’s long been a theory that there is a ruse going on where Kojima has a better relationship with Konami that anyone thinks and that he’s been building a carefully curated misdirection campaign to return to MGS since V. For all we know, Physint may be the sequel to MGS4.
Exhibit I
“The moment zero becomes one is the moment the world springs to life,” as the Big Boss says. Physint may stand for Physical Integrity, ie the Nine Point Physical Integrity Rights Index, which measures the degree to which a person is free from political torture or governmental killing. It evaluates items at 0 to 1 scale.
Exhibit II
Kojima’s made references to this scale in practically every game. And now we’ve gone from Ground Zeroes to One as Kojima has practically talked about how much he appreciates his freedom by being an indie at every turn he can since the announcement of Physint.
Exhibit III
Project Ogre was a game announced prior to MGSV, which was not considered and open world, but a free world. According to the Japanese Ogre legend, and miniaturizing its concepts, it contains the story of a red ogre that sought to befriend a village that was terrified of it. It requested the aid of its friend the blue ogre to startle the town and the red ogre would battle it to save the village and become a hero in the process, even though the battle was simulated. Red ogre=Konami. Blue ogre=Playstation.
Exhibit IV
Analyze the Delta symbol in MGS3: Delta and compare it to the V in MGSV. It’s an inverted symbol. With a bridge between it. Hmm… Sam Porter BRIDGES. Two Kojima-tangent properties simultaneously releasing, huh?
Exhibit V
Physint

The ramblings of an insane old man, am I sharing with you, no doubt. The double speak of someone that’s gone too far, seen too much, read too much. I could keep going. Lol
There’s been Kojima conspiracies for years now and they’re fun to read. The dedicated Kojima fanbase is very familiar with the themes of his work and some believe everything he does is intentional to the point that they’re breadcrumbs back to Metal Gear. As Eli’s jacket says very clearly, “Never Be Game Over.”
@somnambulance If I remember, Kojima said something about making a new stealth game during 2023 game awards (Hurst is also in the interview 🤮)
