Marvel Rivals developer NetEase has apologised after mistakenly banning players wrongly flagged for cheating. The action has since been reversed, and the studio says tackling legitimate cheaters remains a priority.
On Discord, NetEase apologised for the affair (thanks, IGN), assuring players it "does not and will not ban players who are playing fairly and without cheating". Sharing a Quickplay player base with PS5 and Xbox, those banned were on PC, using a compatibility layer. According to Wikipedia, and beyond our limited technical understanding, this might be for unrelated hardware emulation purposes, not necessarily for cheating.
The number of cheaters in Marvel Rivals appears to be rising, and NetEase says it will invest in further anti-cheat protections, putting the onus on players to report suspected cheats in the meantime. Players recently determined they were being put into bot matches after losing streaks as an apparent quick dopamine hit, a feature which the dev failed to mention pre-release.
