At this rate, you will be customising your gaming room with Metal Gear Solid: Delta Snake Eater Funko Pops before any physical copy of the actual game. It's been noticed that versions of the naff collectibles based on Naked Snake and The Boss are available to pre-order now, even with an actual release date of 25th March 2025 on Amazon. This means that they're currently slated to release before the game even does.
While a Sony trailer did tag the PS5 remake project as a 2024 release, it never actually materialised, and now we enter a new year with the game still a mostly unknown quantity. We did play it at a Konami preview event along with Silent Hill 2 last year, where it revealed itself to be one of the most faithful remakes around — at least during the initial Virtuos Mission.
"Without the need for gameplay or story changes, what Konami and Virtuos are doing is tweaking near-perfection," we concluded at the time. "On the basis of the Virtuous Mission, they are going about the endeavour in the correct manner."
It'll surely release at some point this year, though. It was touted that we'd actually already have a release date by now, as a PlayStation Blog post claimed suggested one would be confirmed "later this year" in 2024. Delays and setbacks may have hurt the project's release pipeline, but 2025 feels like right for Delta: Snake Eater.
Until that's confirmed, however, you can have a play around with the two physical figures arriving in two months. The Naked Snake collectible comes equipped with his knife while The Boss has her iconic gun. Both are available for pre-order at $12.99, but will you be grabbing either? Wow, are these still a thing? The last I heard the company was burying the things like ET cartridges.
I feel like MGS Delta is a Q2/Q3 release.
Lots of MGS merch releasing/re-releasing on that window, including some neat Rex/Ray model kits from Kotobukiya.
April/may release date.
@LifeGirl still massive and they have released tiny ones now
Who the **** keeps buying these damn things?
These things are so sh*t 🤢 Who buys them?!
People really can’t enjoy anything without people complaining.
@LifeGirl Yep over 30 million dollars worth of them went to landfills. You'd think they might donate them to children's hospitals, orphanages or something but there's no profit in that strategy. I never bought a Funko pop and never will, they always felt like the literal face of peak consumerism.
I don't want to hate on something some people do enjoy, it's what's going on behind the scenes that matters. People aren't seeing the damage plastics like that are doing in the long term. Metric tons of it aren't being broken down properly and it's only getting worse.
I really hope this game is good but Konami is absolutely a wait until release type company. I ain't preordering anything from them.
Funko Pops are so stupid looking. I can't understand why they're pushed so hard. Gamestop used to have an entire section dedicated to them before they shut down their stores.
@Jacko11 I'm all for "you do you", but these things are just on an other level of unappealing to a LOT of people - cheap, nasty plastic, horrendous bug eyes, takes iconic character designs and destroys them by giving all of them the same generic block head (thereby ruining their silhouette).
I tought these pieces of junk were done and all met the end at a landfill, such garbage
I’ve never played Metal Gear, but I think these look great! I enjoy getting a Pop here and there as well. Just because you crybabies in the comments don’t like them doesn’t mean the rest of us want to hear your bitching.
@ZeD And they still get dumped at landfills at a massive rate.
@MrPeanutbutterz Did you see the nightmare fuel with garfield and Funko. And yes i agree they are a lazy corpo wet dream low effort and maximum profit.
@LavenderShroud And just because you have zero taste and are easily amused by plastic trash doesn't mean we should be quiet.
@Flaming_Kaiser I did not, but just googled out of morbid curiosity... my word. The one with lasagna in particular is all kinds of awful, even by POP's already lower-than-the-Mariana's Trench "standards".
Good to know the game should be releasing in Spring 2025.
@CielloArc Based on Nate the Hate's comments about Delta being bound for Switch 2, I'm wondering if they're waiting for that to come out - presumably around June - and have it be day and date for all platforms.
