Update #2 []: Despite being planned for PS5 and PS4 in Japan, Scar-Lead Salvation will not release on Sony's systems in the West on 29th May. Publisher Idea Factory International has only announced a PC version for Western release.
In a statement to Gematsu, it said it has no information to share on the PlayStation versions of the game right now. We'll follow up with the firm and try to get more details.
This is strange because the game is being developed for PS5 and PS4, and will have English and Japanese voiceovers, as well as English, French, Spanish, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese subtitle options on PC.

Our only guess is that certification on PS5 and PS4 will take longer than PC, and that's why a date hasn't been announced yet. As it stands, though, this game is not getting an international release on PlayStation.
Update #1 []:
As promised, Compile Heart has now officially announced Scar-Lead Salvation for PS5 and PS4 – and it really is a Returnal-inspired third-person shooter with an anime aesthetic.
“Escape from the loop of repeated death,” the blurb reads, as reported by Gematsu. “With a high difficulty that even advanced players will find challenging, death is not the end.”
You’ll be fighting through randomly generated dungeons, collecting and levelling weapons along the way. Your progress will reset with each death, so you’ll need to be precise with your approach.
As you can see from the trailer, there’s a mixture of traditional third-person shooting and bullet hell on display here. Development’s being led by Psychic Force designer Hiroshi Aoki.
While a western release hasn’t been announced just yet, it should be noted that Idea Factory International is publishing the PC version, so don’t count it out.
Either way, the title’s due out in Japan on 29th May.
Original Story: Hands up if you played Psychic Force on PS1? The Taito title was a bit pants, but it had an awesome 90s anime aesthetic, so there’s a good chance it somehow made its way into your collection anyway.
Veteran designer Hiroshi Aoki – who’s also worked on the likes of Dariusburst and Rune Factory – is back with a new third-person shooter, published by Compile Heart.
A full reveal is planned for 30th January, and we’ll update when it drops, but for now we know the game is called Scar-Lead Salvation, and is coming to PS5 and PS4.
And honestly, it sounds a lot like Returnal. According to a Gematsu report, dungeons will be randomly generated, and when you die you’ll lose your weapons and progress. A mysterious number on your character’s face will increase with each run, however, which we assume will factor into the narrative.
Obviously if it plays as fast and fluidly as Housemarque’s hit, this could be one worth keeping an eye on. It’s due out on 29th May in Japan, but we assume this will get picked up and published worldwide.

Hello there fellow gamers.
Why, yes, my friend @get2sammyb, my hand is indeed up.
Not only I played Psychic Force on my PSone, but I also played Psychic Force 2012 on Dreamcast as well.
Pretty interesting games, with some very cool anime visuals.
This is clearly a teaser, but you had me at "Anime Returnal".
Will keep my eye on the full reveal.
Still waiting for Housemarque´s new game.
Wonder when we´ll see it and what kind of game will it be.
If it´s Returnal 2, I´m all in. Absolutely loved that game on PS5.
Cheers and happy gaming
Loved the gameplay of Returnal, but hated the rogue-like aspect of it.
Hopefully this game can do it better.
Yep if it's fast/fluid/the controls is good, I will likely buy it.
Idea Factory/Compile Heart = instant wishlist
Returnal from Temu released earlier this month, now this is Returnal from AmiAmi. "Returnalike" is a thing now LOL.
Housemarque and Returnal are very underrated.
@GymratAmarillo still a shame that returnal is the only game to make an interesting use of the dualsense's trigger effects
I like Returnal, and this game does look cool and also like it has potential to be a hit so I'm not complaining.
Yeah the premise and gameplay looks similar to Returnal.
But i think the "time loop x sci-fi x fighting against alien" idea was started by All You Need is Kill light novel / manga (look up Edge of Tomorrow movie which based on it). So Returnal wasn't really the one who start it.
I have yet to play Returnal but I do like what the devs were going for in the game regarding it's roguelike elements.
I'll definitely keep an eye on this.
I haven't played Returnal yet but I'd like to try this one
It's compile heart, expect a low B to C tier game.
@Nepp67 That is a flat out lie.
Unless the game has far more suggestive content than what's shown in that brief trailer and screenshots, I don't understand why it wouldn't get a Western release. What's shown here, though, isn't anything more than the 'fanservice' in Stellar Blade, The First Descendant, hell even the recently released Ninja Gaiden II Black.
Same company that's not releasing certain games on the Switch in the west due to ratings/censorship.
Well There goes Weebturnal.
The absurdity of this is that it takes barely 10 minutes to set up an Hong Kong account, buy a HK PSN code off Playasia, purchase a game with a English dub and then download it straight to your PS5. You can also collect the trophies if you just play it on your main account.
@Nepp67 try ghostwire Tokyo
Shame this game isnt releasing in the West, would have bought it
It's more surprising to see no Switch version in sight, but then again, the generally hybrid-prolific publisher has yet to get around to porting a few of their other titles like Dark Rose Valkyrie or Omega Quintet as well. Worst case scenario, this will be one for the Deck, but hope springs eternal.
You can release on Steam easily than you can on any console.
Might as well see if the game gets a following before commiting to release on consoles.
@Brundleflies21 Just wait for a playasia release then its really a game i own just as easy.
@Flaming_Kaiser Yeah I forgot that all discs are region free so you don't even need a Jap/HK account.
@dBackLash Yeah, was not a fan of that as well.
@Brundleflies21 I stand corrected somehow playasia doesnt release the game with English never understood why. 🤣
