Update []:
As spotted by Gematsu yet again, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has been rated in Brazil. This follows the previous rating in Korea, and isn’t necessarily confirmation of anything, but does suggest the title is nearing release.
While the title was surprisingly absent from the latest State of Play, a panel is planned for SXSW next month, where we’ll likely get a lot more information on the game.
Original Story: If there really is to be a State of Play livestream taking place next week, then Death Stranding 2 looks increasingly likely to be the headline act. A new age rating for the PS5 title has been published by the South Korean board GRAC. While an age rating doesn't always indicate a release date is near — Hollow Knight: Silksong received one in April 2024 and is yet to be seen — it does suggest the game is in a place where it can be submitted for evaluation by an external company.
The age rating from South Korean describes the PS5 sequel as "an adventure game about delivering parcels across a post-apocalyptic world and connecting cities to save humanity". It sounds just like the original game, then. There'll be "excessive violence", "vulgar language, profanity, and swearing", drug use, smoking, and drinking scenes in the game, according to the description attached to the rating deeming it "not available to minors".
What's also fuelling speculation of Death Stranding 2 being part of a potential State of Play presentation is that Hideo Kojima tweeted yesterday he's editing a trailer "for the first time in a year". There's a possibility this could be for the project he has in the works with Xbox, called OD, but with Death Stranding 2 the closest to release, it's more than likely going to be On the Beach. The game is currently slated to release later this year.
He followed up the original tweet with an image of the editing suite, displaying his trademark caption: "A Hideo Kojima Game." See it below:
Do you think Death Stranding 2 will be at the rumoured State of Play showcase next week, and now it has an age rating, could a PS5 release date announcement be attached to the reveal? Share your thoughts in the comments below, and learn everything we know so far about the game through the link.

Guess I should try and play more than the first 30 minutes of DS1.
Why has age ratings become a source for hype?
I really wanted to love the first game but it is the most boring game i have ever played. I was hoping the second one would have way more combat encounters, but this fills me with doubts
@Oram77 because it means that the release is relatively close?
Why not mention he's holding a BB bottle. Ofc its Death Stranding 2 and not the Xbox Game lol.
@Cry_Zero That isn't always the case though, they can be approved ages in advanced of the actual release.
@Oram77 the last 10 times ww got news like this i couldve sworn the release was imminent but good to know i guess☺️
@Cry_Zero try everyone's gone to the rapture or hellblade 2 , you may change your mind 🤣
Really looking forward to this one, first game was excellent and I am well up for more of the same plus in general I think MGS 2 was considered one of the best so hopeful a sequel of this IP hits just as hard

My mind and body are ready Kojima-San
“An adventure game about delivering parcels across a post-apocalyptic world and connecting cities to save humanity”
There are dozens of those. How do you know this is about DS?
I’ll be very curious to see what this game really turns out to be. By all descriptions it sounds like the exact blueprint of the first game, but with Kojima, I seriously doubt it will just be a retread of DS1. Obviously his focus is on narrative eccentricities but I think he’ll make gameplay mechanical adjustments and evolve the IP somehow.
I’d really enjoy a continuation of the package delivery game design with the open world, stealth and no-kill strategies of enemies, and the shared online world building. Presumably with new structures to build, new transportation options and vehicles, and new maps with different environmental hazards. Honestly, I’m not all the fussed about having new or more combat encounters, but we’ll probably see new weapons (although how many more possibilities are there to weaponize your own biological waste 😂) and enemies. Shooters are a dime a dozen out there, that’s not what’s going to make this game special. It’s the unique strategizing of loading up your back or vehicles with packages, traversing gorgeous vistas, and puzzling out the risk vs. benefit of taking a short cut or over-stacking your backpack whilst avoiding combat encounters — and doing all that whilst watching an outlandish narrative unfold.
With this and the MGS Delta release date, I think I will have to start edging close to release as well.
@Nalim I think you're on to something
Keep on Keeping on 🤝
Hype for this! Loved DS1 for being so original, obvs it’s goin to lose that this time around but I’m sure it’s still going to be out there like true Kojima
Absolutely can’t wait for this!
I’m so stoked. Death Stranded was an unexpected masterpiece to me, and I think we will see it at the next State of Play.
Rumours upon rumours upon rumours. It’s rumours all the way down. 🐢
Can’t wait to preorder this one next week if the rumored date for SOP is accurate
Weird timing right a state of play Rumored for next week and now there is a rating out hmmm
@Alex_Bevan I tried Death Stranding on my PS4 and played an hour or so and thought it was absolute garbage! Switched it off and left it sitting for about 2yrs.
Then I got a PS5 and there was a free PS5 upgrade so I was bored one night and got the upgrade and fired it up one last time, determined to play for 2hrs and to give it a chance... It's now one of my all time favourite games!
Once you're into it and get the mechanics it's unbelievably good, especially in later levels.
I went from hating it and having it as one of my worst and overhyped games ever to it being one of my top 5 games ever.
Definitely give it a chance, definitely push through for the 1st few hours and then it'll all start to come together!
Can't wait for the sequel, pre-order, pre-install and I'll be playing it the second it goes live... 100%
Apart from game director and creator Mr Kojima role should be; Expert in marketing and create expectations without saying a world 😂
If no-one has advised Kojima to reign in his cut scene over indulgences then I'll pass on this. The ending of the original game was far too elongated than it needed to be.
I’ve always wanted to do it but never have: I’m going to take off a day or two of work when this releases. I cannot wait to play this! I was and still generally am obsessed with the first one. Can’t wait to see what happens next in the story and what technology/cool tools and gadgets will be available for use.
My
body isparcels are ready!I played DS when it first came out and just thought it was a walking Sim and I couldn't understand the hype, I dropped it. I went back to a couple of months ago and it all just clicked, I loved the exploration, the obstacles, the story, I couldn't stop playing it so I'm really looking forward to this.
@get2sammyb it's my most anticipated game alongside GTA VI (although I think real life America has far surpassed any insanity Rockstar can come up with at this point.) DS1 is top 5 all time for me.
Yes, I am ready for some road building, I just about did a whole section my self. Never thought I would enjoy the game as much as I did because I was a mailman for 23 years.
Can't decide if I'm more hyped for this or Ghost of Yotei, this year.
Isn't OD on ice due to the VA strike, or is that the MGS-like game? It has to be DS2
@PegasusActual93 MGS5 was an obvious unfinished mess due to the split with Konami which meant a lot of exposition dumps were simply missing and Death Stranding contains plenty of overly long cut scenes with the finale on the beach being 40 mins worth of Kojima excess.
I like his work but I also wish he'd offer exposition that isnt just told in a tediously long, non interactive cut scene which induces paralysis in the flow of the gameplay.
I thought the original would be my type of game but I bounced off hard.
I’m amazed it has enough of a following to get a sequel, where as Days Gone didn’t.
Doesn’t strike me as having wide appeal.
Guess I’m out of touch. Struggling to understand. Thought this would be widely rejected by the majority of gamers.
Royal Mail simulator
@Cry_Zero agreed with you. Im kinda awe at the first prologue when you meet lia seydoux. But after you start have to delivering with the awful earth landscapes,i got damn bored and stop playing.
But can’t denied, kojima game have its own class. It’s just the gameplay make me bored so fast 😅
@Steel76 "Can understand why Konami got tired of him"
Lol bro, Konami wasn't tired of him but their higher ups was dumb af. It's not a secret anymore that Konami management treated their creative talents like they're prisoners.
https://www.gamesindustry.biz/nikkei-article-paints-a-picture-of-konami-in-disarray
Not just Kojima but IGA, Murayama (RIP), Toyama, Uchida etc was treated badly by Konami's management to the point they got forced to leave the company.
Right now Konami doesn't have any talents who can make good games. Just look how they can't remake SH 2 and MGS 3 by themself.
