Free PS Plus Extension for All Members Affected by PSN Outage 1

PSN was offline for almost an entire day on Saturday, in what was the longest outage since 2011’s infamous hack. While services have now mostly resumed, Sony has promised that all PS Plus members will receive five days of free service as compensation for the down time.

Writing on English speaking support page Ask PlayStation, the manufacturer issued the following statement:

“Network services have fully recovered from an operational issue. We apologise for the inconvenience and thank the community for their patience. All PS Plus members will automatically receive an additional five days of service.”

While outages will inevitably occur with all online services, this was a particularly bothersome one, as it was so widespread and lasted so long. Hopefully Sony has learned from the situation, and will be able to recover faster should anything like this occur again in the future.

Considering the outage only lasted approximately a day, though, five days of free service does seem like reasonable compensation. As noted in the statement, you won’t need to do anything to claim the free time, as it’ll automatically be added to your existing subscription.
