Sony’s confirmed the latest selection of PS Plus Essential games members can expect in March 2025. As always, there are three PS5 and PS4 games to grab, with the trio scheduled to be available to download from Tuesday, 4th March.
The offering is as follows:
- Dragon Age: The Veilguard (PS5) | Review
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection (PS5, PS4) | Review
- Sonic Colors: Ultimate (PS4) | Review
This may go down as one of the most shocking PS Plus updates in history, to be honest.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s commercial struggles have been well documented, but it launched approximately four months ago and is already debuting in Sony’s cheapest subscription tier. In truth, we’ve double-checked the information from the platform holder several times and still can’t quite believe it, but it is accurate.
BioWare’s latest is a great game, too, as we pointed out in our 8/10 review. “This is a gorgeous and gripping adventure, backed by a cast of endearing heroes and deliciously devious villains,” our resident fantasy fan Robert Ramsey wrote.
We were similarly complimentary of compilation Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection, describing it as “radical” in our 8/10 review.
“While not every game is a winner – and a lot of them are variants of other games in the collection – there's still lots here to love,” wrote reviewer Scott McCrae. “It brings two of the most beloved beat-'em-ups in history to modern platforms, and is host to some hidden gems like Radical Rescue.”
The only real weak link this month, then, is Sonic Colors: Ultimate – which is still a decent remaster of a relatively well-loved game.
“This 11-year-old Sonic title is one worth experiencing, but just be aware of its rough edges before you spin dash into the action,” shrugged anthropomorphic animal fan Stephen Tailby in his 6/10 review.

This may be the most shocking PS Plus update ever. I am stunned!
I had to do a double take…Dragon Age really must’ve tanked!
Wow! Cowabunga Collection is amazing but that's not the story here, is it?
Dragon Age really biffed it big time didn't they. What a let down and it seems they are well aware of it.
Got Dragon Age last month haha. Put 60ish hours into it, had a really good time with it.
I'm not a huge fan of Sonic Colours but will gladly take the other two. Veilguard feels like a huge get!
Wow, they have to give DA away for people to play it lol! Even then... pass
Dragon age on there already is kinda damning. Must have sold terribly! Origins is one of my favourite games of all time, I’ve played 2 and inquisition so will check this out
This is a really good month! I am actually really happy I get to play Dragon Age this soon, I expected another 12 months at least until it was put into EA play. If I wasn't poor I would've given the game a chance on release. Jaffee and Gene said good things about it
Wow Veilguard, I might try that Turtles game too.
Wasn't expecting that but cool
This has to be the shortest time in which a game has hit PS Plus (outside day 1 additions).
Dragon Age really must’ve bombed for EA to be this desperate, oof! Not even 6 months from release.
I resubscribed PS Plus this month after much thinking. And now I think it was totally worth it since I was pretty sure I was going to buy Veilguard next from the store. Never expected this with all the general emotions that PS Plus was going downhill every month.
What a surprise!!!
Cowabunga!
Might have a look at DA. This game must have done it very baddly.
Wow, Veilguard must have been a colossal failure to get it on PS Plus Essential THIS soon.
Genuinely shocking. I can't see how EA justifies Bioware's existence for much longer
Just bought Veilguard not all that long ago for full price, but the entire "Game arrives for PS+ after I bought it" thing happens to us all at one point or another. Despite the hatewagon, I enjoyed it a lot.
Dragon Age is a big win, although I 100% know there will be the usual comments from people who just parrot what some streamer told them.
Probably one of the strongest months in a while.
I'm most looking forward to the turtles among that lot !
I am really glad for others about Veilguard. I know it does not have a good reputation, but I really enjoyed the game.
I am feeling pretty burned by my purchase. I got it on sale over the holiday, but had no idea a game that came out on the last day of October would be on Plus in March. Wish I had saved the money. 😃 But happy for everyone else-it is well worth playing.
Waiting for someone to still complain 😂
Wow what an amazing game to get for free.
Ok, best month in a while. DA has tanked and there are obvious "political" reasons, but there is still a decent game in there. Other two are genuine fun games.
That's an amazing list I've bought dragon age veliguard though damn oh well the rest are good though
I got Veilguard on Release lol
So successful EA took a bag 4 months after release
@get2sammyb
Indeed! a great collection! all 3 good games as far as I'm concerned. Dragon Age not played yet so I'm curious. And Turtles is always good
Wow. Failguard didn’t even wait the year that Suicide Squad took to go free via PS Plus.
That is very, very telling.
Is the Turtles Arcade version only the two player version?!?
Over the moon with Veilguard! Between Ragnarok, Lost Record and Dragons Age I feel ive got my money's worth all ready out of ps plus and it's only February. Unreal
Cowabunga collection is worth it just for Turtles in time
Bounced off Veilguard hard. Played as the melee class and it felt like a poor cousin of GoW 2018.
Might dip in again with this and try the mage.
Even though I own dragon age veilguard i haven’t finished it, mainly because I’ve been playing on my ps5 pro but don’t have the disc drive because of the difficulties so I’ll be able to download it and finish it
Wow a great month, I don't think I have any of these games!
Mother🤬er! I just bought Veilguard two weeks ago!
“This is a gorgeous and gripping adventure, backed by a cast of endearing heroes and deliciously devious villains,”
I wish I had played this version of the game. I wish the version of Veilguard that I played had a cast of even half-decently written characters.
Wow! This is a great month for me! I’m interested in all 3 games.
But I agree, seeing Veilguard here is shocking!
And I just bought a physical copy of Dragon Age for mad cheap about a month ago, oh well
but? this is real????
best drop in ages.
@voltum3l It's real. I can't believe it either!
Christ sake, I just bought Dragon Age a couple weeks ago
For anyone wondering Veilgaurd sold around 1 million units as of Jan 2025. It's not awful but given the amount spent of the game they are clearly looking at other revenue sources. I got the game and I enjoyed it. The writing isn't the best but the world and combat are actually pretty fun. I hope being on this services allows people to at least give the game a try despite some outward appearances.
Lucky... despite the debates, DA Veilguard is a fine game which will be enjoyed by many people. I hope it's inclusion on plus will encourage many more to give it a try and see for themselves.
As a counterbalance to people enjoying Avowed on game pass, it's a great move. I'm really enjoying Avowed, but if I had to pick, I'd pick Veilguard as the better game...
More than happy! Well done Sony 👏
🤣 poor Dragon Age - I'll still pass, thanks. The franchise has sadly died a horrible death with Veilguard. I'm kinda pleased Veilguard did die a horrible death though. Obnoxious display of a game (a looong list of issues)
TMNT will be sick though 🤘🍕
Holy cats. I mean, I've already played through Veilguard and probably won't do a second round, but that's big. I'll also happily take TMNT and Sonic.
Wow! This is a truly great month.
I've tried so many times to get into DA:V and I just can't do it. I've probably put in 20-30 hours over several starts and stops with different characters. The writing is just so bad and gameplay is pretty bland. Huge disappointment.
@Titntin I would imagine thats the hook for EA, they get paid by Sony for it being on PS+ and with it being free then more people will give it go and probably realise its actually not as bad as people made out due to one 3m scene in a 40h game. That could the get some more positive reviews / sales out there.
Insane month. Best month we’ve had in a little bit, even if there’s nothing for me personally.
Has Dragon Age even dropped on EA play (playstation version) yet? That's crazy if not.
Edit: I just checked it isn't on it
In the iconic words of Owen Wilson, "wow".
I bought dragon age veilguard on steam deck and couldn’t get into it - the graphics were just way to blurry in order to get a decent frame rate. I’ll probably give it another go on ps5
Dunno why everyone is assuming a game has to have failed spectacularly to come to ps+ that quickly. A lot of people are forgetting what month it is, it's far, far more likely that EA simply want to get that ps+ money in the backend of this financial year to boost their figures and are willing to write off any potential DA drip sales to do so.
Either way, it's a really strong get for Playstation and a genuinely good month.
I was expecting one of our annual titles this month. One from Fifa, NBA, F1, CoD, and WWE that we are basically guaranteed every year at this point so that's a very welcome surprise.
I saw sonic colors on sale and was considering buying it and I saw this
WOAH. That is crazy. Maybe I'll finally play a dragon age game like my friend keeps telling me too 😅
How does this even benefit them at this point? All it will do is cast a further pale on the game and Bioware by way of the negative press/sentiment that will be associated with this move.
The game has no mtx (not a complaint) nor DLC. Giving it away will not in any way generate revenue besides the upfront $$ Sony is giving them. To settle for that is a sign the tail on the sales have dropped off a cliff and this is EA throwing in the towel.l full stop.
I'll be surprised if Bioware survives long enough to release ME 4. This is wild.
This speaks volumes about EA's meddling and strategy over the past decade+. They played their hand and they lost/eroded customer support HARD. Now they are reaping what they sowed. Sadly, this will cost many talented people their jobs and impact a lot of families while the suits suck up fat bonuses.
Don't care about dragon age but happy about Sonic and the turtles
@ZeD Back in the ps3 days when the regions set their own games I'm fairly sure Europe got several games within 6 months of their release. There may have been quicker stuff , its hard to be sure off hand but we got many games fairly quick that the US had to wait at least a year for.
Well wtf....Now I feel dumb for buying full price lol
Good lord DA veilguard already? Had no intention of purchasing it but I'll give it a try for nowt. Tmnt will be a good laugh. Pretty cool month.
@Bluemoon2008 for the record it was May that we got EA 24.
Sonic Colours is supposed to be a good game but I thought it was awful, even amongst its own Sonic peers of the time . I assume the DS game is supposed to be the good one.
Already own the TMNT collection, so might mess around with sonic colors but not going to touch dragon age
Sorry, not even free EA. 🤣
@get2sammyb I wonder if we'll get Lego horizon soon as well since that game didn't do so good either
Surprisingly good value.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm not surprised at all that os hilarious to me
Theres nothing actually really wrong with Veilguard tbh its a perfectly fine and fun game, a bit tedious with the awful marvel-esque character dialogue. But had a pretty good time with it really.
Wow, Veilguard was that bad that it lasted only 4 to 5 months until it was given up to PS Essential huh?
I thought Veilguard had 89k player peak on steam and was therefore a great success 🤔
I'll add it to my library. Doubt I'll play it still, but hey. Maybe when I'm bored enough lol
Wow! I have Sonic Colors and the Cowabunga Collection already, but Dragon Age alone makes this month über!
Bloody hell!! They screwed me with Ragnarok (purchased December) and now Veilguard ! Damn 🫣
I bet Bioware can't believe their luck. However much money Sony offered them they must have bitten their hand off! 😂
Wow that was quick! Wonder how many people STILL won't try it for basically "free"? I already own the Cowabunga collection, but I've never played Sonic Colors so I'll give that one a go for sure.
Now more people can play veilguard, and realise they where wrong and it's actually really good.
Wow! What a shocker indeed! Hate to sound cynical, but it must’ve really tanked (in EA’s eyes anyway). Glad to give it a whirl!
still zero interest in Veilguard
Well damn, thats a surprise! Decided to wait with Veilguard until it got in a service and glad i didnt have to wait long. Will def try it out 🙂
I'll add Veilguard and Sonic to the pile of PS+ games I'm never going to play. Enjoy Cowabunga Collection y'all. Great collection of games.
Ah my Turtles Cowabunga Collection & Sonic Colors can stay perfectly sealed now
May try DA at some point but way down the line, great month all round even though I already have 2 of the 3!
And folk said Suicide Squad going on to PsN was a shocker after a year…
Woah, Veilguard is a legit decent game too. Sad to see it tank due to “the internet”, everyone I know who played it has really enjoyed it.
I’m shocked about DA Veilguard. What an awesome surprise. It’s a game I thought I’d pick up maybe when it dropped down into the $20 range next year. I might not play it until next year, but I’ll definitely claim it this month! Very nice!
If DA is as bad as Forspoken was supposed to be, I'm sure I'll greatly enjoy it. Seems that the people who actually gave it a try enjoyed its gameplay.
And guys, don’t forget it’s Essential lineup. So these games aren’t leaving PS Plus unless you do. If anything, I would have expected DA to be part of Extra. This is super month!
***deep breath*** HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Good god how badly must this garbage have failed in order for this to happen. It’s like putting heads on stakes to deter others. Get proper writers in and patronise your audience at your own peril.
Turtles is pretty great tho, not bothered about sonic.
Woohoo....great month🙂
LOOOOL Nice try EA and Bioware I wouldn't play Veilguard even if you paid me 😅
@Cambrius 20p and a tissue, and they still overpaid.
Wow, a decent month for once. Means I don’t have to buy Veilguard if I decide to play it
Absolutely stoked to see tmnt cowabunga collection. When I got my NES all those years ago I got it with one of the tmnt games on there and the first Mario game. Really wanted to buy it for the nostalgia but seemed a little bit too expensive but now I finally get to relive some very early childhood memories.
Vuelgaurd is not a great game, it’s cringe that wrecked the Dragon Age name. It’s tanking this month’s game selection too. We don’t want your failure nobody wanted to play.
@EngFin I've had it on my wishlist for ages too!
Perfect month for me. Would not have bought any of them, but look forward to check them out.
First month when I won't even tap anything. Bought TMNT on launch (on switch), and bought colours a month ago (aaargh!). Veulguard - I don't even like dragon age in the first place.
Hm, I already played Veilguard (twice), so that's a miss for me, but Veilguard's combat is surprisingly fun and I think a lot of people are gonna realize it's better than the word-of-mouth would've led you to believe.
Crazy good month!
Big month but personally not a Dragon Age fan so uh, Sonic Colours for me I guess.
Pretty good. DA is worth a go
Great month for most surely?
I recently got DA veilguard but got rid as felt burned out and dialogue and response choices were poor.
Looking forward to playing some turtles games
DAMN, I wanted to check out DA:V out of curiosity but wasn't going to bite till it hit the bargain bin for like $5... I'll gladly check it out for $FREE.95 🤣
@nessisonett Fellow Canuck? I still spell Colour "Color", Centre "Center" and I say "Zee" not "Zed" lol. I do use KM and Celsius, not Miles and Fahrenheit though lol
I bought the game a few weeks ago on the PSN sale 🤡 Oh well, we couldn't know. Good game though!
They should really start giving away at least one decent title per month. This is basically an insult.
@Orochilocka not every one. I thought it was ok at first but then quickly found it dull, repetitive and had annoying characters with pi*s poor dialogue
@Rabid_Gamer I didn't mind the graphics even on performance mode.
@SleeplessKnight Brit lol, worst thing about being a programmer is having to use Yank spelling for certain words.
I just finished dragon age inquisition game of the year edition this morning.it was amazing. This is a really good list of games.dragon age the veilguard.sonic colors.and teenage mutant ninja turtles the cowabunga collection are good to me. Word up son
Tmnt game is great but I have it on switch(really fun to play games like this on handheld). Veilguard is too cringe to even bother with. Don't know about this sonic game but we'll see.
I see only TMNT. DA:V and its gender-neutral culture is BS, and I never liked Sonic at all.
I couldn't believe when I saw the PS Plus image today. I'm very impressed, and yes, I will play Dragon Age: The Veilguard!!
Wow, proper double take from me, Dragon age pretty much covers my annual subscription (got in sale). I was just thinking it was about time i finished Inquisition. haha
I hope though it doesn't mean months of trash to come. This can't have been cheap.
Awesome. A month where i actually want to play all 3 games.
I have never played a Dragon Age game before so I'm willing to give it a chance, nice selection this month Sony 👍🏻
I still have my Cowabunga collection copy. Don't care about Veilguard especially with the characters looks ugly as sin. So that's left Sonic Colors...Well, I guess it's not a bad month.
HOOOOOLLLLDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!
Now that is a month of games! Possibly the best ever, at least IMO.
Happy to get the Cowabunga Collection. I still won't even claim let alone play Dragon Age ha
I played through Veilguard and know how "good" it is, so I don't see much value for people in this. At the most it'll serve for people to confirm for themselves that all the controversy around the game was justified.
I can't wait to get my hands on this Push Square Certified 8/10 DragonAge game that is so awesome it totally sunk the developer in like 4 months. What a Barv!
Zzz....zzzz....zzzz....
Ouch! That was quick.
Bruh, even Suicide squad didn't come to the service until a year after it released.
I'll definitely check dragon age out though.
Well, well, well... I might sub for a month just to get Dragon Age in my essential library and play it as a break from KCD 2.
This game confused me when it instead of keeping the vibe of Dreadwolf suddenly 'came out' as a different game with a cartoonish, simple and purple trailer.
Another point of confusion is the polarized opinion about the writing/the story - if you're sceptical it doesn't help the decision making, it makes me hesitate. I guess very few games 'are worth it' at full price now a days. I don't have the cash any more.
Damm I just bought Dragon Age last week! Enjoying it so far though.
I've really enjoyed Veilguard. I can see it's faults, but it's so far away from the trainwreck that it's made out to be. There is some cheesy and middle of the road writing, but there are also some great moments. Emmerich in particular is a top notch Bioware companion.
Tips for anyone playing it: the start is slow and the weakest part, once you recruit the Warden companion it picks up. If I played it again I wouldn't do as many side missions before I'd got everyone unlocked
No way I thought this was an early April fools joke Veilguard it really did tank then
Even as a free monthly game, massive hard pass here. Might try the Sonic game. Absolute desperation from EA.
Veilguard is the type of game that I won't touch even if it's given for free.
My time and HD storage are precious too.
I won't redeem dragon age failguard, I don't want it in my games library lol. Tmnt collection is good, and sonic colors is okay I guess. I don't think this month is "insane" though.
Oof! Uncanny! Now that's a game no one can complain about. (Sonic, obviously. 😉) Glad I held off from buying, as I was curious to play it, but not 70 quid curious.
The Dragon Age game is huge in size, I’m betting, and space is a premium on the PS5, so if there’s an option to stream it to play, I’ll give it a go. If not, well, we’ll see.
Cowabunga Collection? Ok. If there are couch co-op options, I’ll do it.
The one that interests me is Sonic Colors. I wanted to play that one back on the Wii and never did, so I’ll download that one.
Veilguard had to have flopped insanely hard to be on the cheapest PS Plus tier after FOUR MONTHS?!
laughs like Tourette’s Guy
One of the best in a very long time.
I don't understand the hate for Veilguard, it's an 82 on metacritic which is higher than the recent Avowed which people are hyping up. It seems most people are bashing the game without even playing it and are just sheep following the online hate from a few negative reviews.
I bought veilguard ,loved every minute of it ,try this gorgeous exciting game
Big Apple, 3 AM
@UltimateOtaku91
You know why people are dunking on this game. Their thinly veiled dog whistles have become slogans. Their hate has nothing to do with whatever crap they claim, and everything to do with their views on human rights and how they feel certain groups should not have them.
It's definitely shocking but I'm all in lmfao.
It's just sad to see Bioware as yet another developer forced to try and turn quality IPS into live service garbage. It doesn't bode well for Mass Effect. I really hope that if Sony has any of these left cooking that are trying to monetize popular single player IPS into some live service trash; that they really pay attention to how many of these have failed in The Last 5 Years.
It being on ps plus though is perfect. It's kind of like when a ***** action movie like Fast and the Furious or resdinet evil or something comes out on streaming. You'll watch it when you're bored at night and can't sleep as some mindless viewing but you sure as hell wouldn't pay full price for it or go to the movie for it unless you're just a moron.
For the cost of a month I'll play a stripped back generic ARPG even if it is riddled with its live service beginnings and terrible story. 👍
Is that one companion with that one issue voluntary? I'm not interested in any modern day equivalents to bible thumping.
Dragon Age was in my personal top 5 for ‘24. I thought it was a lot fun, and it was a fairly easy platinum too. I’m not going to tell anyone that their reasons for not playing it are not valid, but if you’re not opposed to some of the subject matter I think you’ll enjoy it.
No friggin way: DA Veilguard! 😂😂😂
Removed - inappropriate
@betasector (#112) dang I see what you did there 😂
Veilguard would be definitely something to dip my toes into, even ahead of playing the earlier stuff (a likely distant prospect in itself since I've been focusing on Mass Effect among Bioware titles), buuuuuut... And the other two items are on Switch, so it looks like another month where I'll just download the smallest size offering to redeem the points. Then again, if the previous such months didn't deter me from dumping a Franklin into 12 more months, there's evidently only so much salt in my bellyaching here. Objectively, it's a lucrative lineup through and through.
Probably pretty smart business from EA, it underperformed so take a lump from Sony and hope that the game gets more mindshare and additional sales as a result
Very happily take those games
None of these interest me at all, but I still can recognize that this is a pretty solid month for many subscribers. Good on ya Sony.
So one of the most hated gamers ever, brilliant job Sony
Holy crap. Say what you want about Dragon Age being a commercial failure, this is still an insane month. I'm glad I kept being lazy and didn't buy the Cowabunga Collection for no reason. Sonic Colors: Ultimate isn't great, but it's Sonic, so I'll definitely take it for free as well.
Nice one on DA: V. It was wish listed, so this is way better.
Wait a second. I thought Dragon Age was an amazing game and it did so well and scored so high in reviews. "A return to form" for Bioware. Why is it so quickly dumped onto PS+?
@Contimaloris
conceivably it is an incentive for PS Plus subscriptions
and I won't even download it for free....says it all
@HappyGamerGirl
Well, apart from the reason(s) not to
Why did they think since nobody bought it it's a good idea to oush this turd to PS+ subscribers?💩 Worst month I can remember 🫤
I simply have no stomach to swallow modern audience oriented Dragon Age (even if I love previous titles).
But HEY! Ninja Turtleeeees!
Veilguard isn't even the best game in the selection. TMNT is better.
@UltimateOtaku91 I totally agree with this. I have heard some people say the writing is bad, but I'm not finding that at all. The combat is much more satisfying than previous Dragon Age games, and the story is better than people are giving it credit for. I think, like a lot of things these days, it's being hurt by the knuckleheads who are always talking about things being "woke" or "having an agenda." Just because you can be gay in the game if you choose, or that there are so many female characters. God forbid a company makes a game for ALL players. These people don't understand that games are created to be played in multiple countries, cultures, and markets around the world. But hey, that's what being an American is about, we think we're the only people that matter. I've played Bioware games since KOTOR and Jade Empire and think it is one of their better entries.
So the only reason DA: V tanked is because some snowflakes got offended?
I'm definitely gonna check it out!
Calling this lineup 'insane' and 'shocking' is pretty crazy itself - unless you have a very low bar for being shocked, I suppose.
And funny how happy everyone seems to be about getting a game so few people were willing actually to pay for and which has been roundly criticised all over the Internet. A rubbish game is still rubbish regardless of whether or not it's 'free'.
Veilguard was my first dragon age and I had a great time with it.
@McBurn at this point I hope you're right. I hope the hate is justified because if not gaming is being ruined by bad faith social media.
Very impressive. I don't have to wait very long to play it now! Serves Bioware right however for dumbing the game down, semi-cartoonising the graphics and taking DA away from it's dark fantasy roots. A shame for the franchise. Let's hope they don't change it to live sevice.
170 and still blowing up, must be good stuff!
Best essential month in a while. Nice!
Veilguard was a good game, just a really, really bad Dragon Age game.
I hope it is a good game and that PS Plus essential is a good service for including it - could be a match made in heaven, and will make people like me come back into the fold.
GOD DAMN IT OF COURSE MY SUB HAD TO EXPIRE ON A GOOD MONTH GOD
Dragon Age Veilguard takes a while to get going but I think it's a great game once it does. Has some problems - leans a bit too much on puzzles, exploration etc. for my liking - but it's essentially a Mass Effect game with wizards in it and I like that.
Shame there's a Sonic game in there stinking up the joint but the other two are well worth a play. Good month!
@Titntin Veilguard is better than Avowed?... I'm not entirely sure who should be surprised or disappointed more... I think they are however both aiming for a more casual RPG market - that and they both started off as Live Service games that were re-tooled for SP use. And yes - there's no harm in trying out a game (especially as part of a service)... people might find that they enjoy it. There's also a good chance it doesn't scratch the RPG itch that well (especially post KCD2).
@Steeleye50 where are you at in the game? Just curious... I had been thinking very similar thoughts - but by about 20-ish hours in, I kinda realised that the warm glow of a good start wasn't being backed up by engaging gameplay (but it's all subjective, so you might be loving the mid-game vibe).
@MrPeanutbutterz
Try the spellblade specialisation in mage category.
Had a lot of fun with this one, but it does start slow - it gets much better when you get abilities like throwing your dagger out (spinning), the duration lightning spell (I cant remember its name, but it brings down lightning strikes in a wide area for a few seconds and is in the SouthEast of the skill grid I think).
@rusty82 that’s why I said ‘everyone I know who played it.’ I don’t know you, sir.
@Cakefish it's not even been 4 full months 😂
@Darylb88 it 'reached' 1,5m players, doesn't mean they sold a million copies.
If anything at this point we could surmise they were far off it.
it sold extremely poorly.. far worse than even the most cynical predictions... we're talking about 1.5m total copies. ea's sales expectations were only 3m and it couldn't even manage that. this is a disaster of epic proportions. if this studio manages to keep the doors open and release another game, i'll be shocked. clearly, ea is having a hard time giving this game away for FREE
@zhoont jaffee ?
Removed - unconstructive feedback
@The_ghostmen David Jaffe*
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare so far only about 15 hours so I still have a ways to go. I know it can change, but I am still loving the gameplay. My only gripe is I hate all the floating platforms. You see it in so many games but it just drives me crazy for some reason. I just think it's poor level design. But the story is decent and the combat makes it fun. I played Inquisition before and the combat used to drive me crazy always having to wait for your stamina to charge.
Removed - trolling/baiting
@ecurb7 I might be easily shocked, certainly, but I don’t remember a commercially released AAA game coming onto the Essential service this quickly, critical failures or not. Callisto Protocol, Saints Row, Immortals of Aveum, Suicide Squad… it’s taken at least a year for high profile big budget games that flop commercially or critically to drop onto the service. Even the much maligned Forspoken only recently came to Extra. Older “commercial failures” like Banishers, SW Outlaws, Avatar, or Alan Wake 2 would have surprised me less.
And by “roundly criticized all over the internet” you mean a Metacritic of 82 and Open Critic of 80, then I admire the high standard. Personally, I do actually play “rubbish” games sometimes that aren’t 9’s and 10’s. 😂 There are only so many Baldur’s Gates and Elden Rings out there.
@Orochilocka fair point. Didn't read it properly. It's an 'ok' game at best in my opinion.
@Th3solution
Think you missed my point. I was simply highlighting how people suddenly seem to change their tune when a game becomes 'free' on PS Plus, just because it's AAA. Everyone hates on the service when they give out highly rated, but smaller games, and is constantly clamouring for bigger titles. So when they do add a AAA title, people just seem inordinately grateful, regardless of the quality. But, as I said, being free doesn't change a game's quality - and in this case, it simply isn't a very good game (whatever Metacritic says; don't let some meaningless average dictate your opinions for you.)
I bought this at release, found it very hollow and bland, with characters that were fine.
However having in the meantime replayed Inquisition, maybe I’ll come to it more in the mood, and for free I’ll dive back in. Maybe the story and characters pick up after I left off.

@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare
"Veilguard is better than Avowed?"
To be fair I've enjoyed both games and I've not completed Avowed yet. I'd give Veilguard an 8.5 /10 and Avowed is currently sitting on 8, so there's not much in it. If Avowed could match the fantastic end game of Veilguard maybe I'd have it equal?
I appreciate that's not everyone's view, but there are a lot of people who played DA and absolutely loved it, so I'm by no means alone in my praise, and I'm delighted that so many more people will now get a chance to play for themselves.
As for scratching that RPG itch, it depends what you want. In a genre that includes all sorts of action titles with minimal stat growth, yes, many people will enjoy what both them tiles offer.
Is it as full on as KCD2? Of course not, but many people, myself included, don't want to get bogged down in the endless systems that title offers. I'm into fantasy escapism and for me that doesn't involve worrying about some of the things KCD2 does so well. There's room for lots of different styles of game imo!

@tangyzesty To me, Veilguard was very 'Dragon Age 2'. Not anywhere near Origins or Inquisition levels but enjoyable enough.
Also, very polished with barely a bug or glitch in sight - though I'm still trying to work out what accent my female elf has in the game - sometimes I think it's definitely West Country...?
@ecurb7 how can you not be shocked and amazed??? Underperforming game added to ps plus!!! The headlines write themselves 🤣
@The_Elder maybe you are just a troll but it's a strange comment regarding the game. Completely different to every other comment on here and the review. Great month for ps plus.
That's pissed me off a little bit tbh, as I just bought this game for £60 like a month ago.

THIS so much. As often I find myself nodding to your well reasoned post. There's absolutely a place for games with super deep or realistic mechanics like KCD2, PoE2 or Stalker 2 but many players don't want that, they want something more breezy and fun, an escape from reality not a twisted version of it.
Just as some people don't like Souls games and prefer less strategic action combat like Stellar Blade and some people prefer sim-racing others like arcade style, there's room for many tastes.
But the real problem is there are too many loud voices telling people they shouldn't like what they like, as if we should all like the same things. We all like different things.
The crowing about EA is even more derivative than the writing in Veilguard. The games repeat the same hackneyed content, the trolls retread the same hackneyed criticism. Neither has had anything new to offer for 20 years.
Echo, echo, echo.
Game studios are like bands. They go through different line ups, and they don’t last. The idea that if BioWare weren’t at EA they’d still be the BioWare of 20 years ago is a delusion. EA is Vegas. They don’t make the Elvis’s get fat and old, they’re just where old, fat Elvis’s go to make money.
@BolkaRover I'm not a troll, I can have an opinion even if it's different than other comments. In our (paid) subscription we're getting a poor game that almost nobody wanted to buy hence it failed. It was the same thing last month with Suicide Squad.
To the moderator, I want to ask; What was inappropriate about my comment? Was it the adjective I used to describe "poorly written trash"? I bet it was. In that case I understand your leaning. Yes, I mentioned an ideology. I wasn't hurting anybody, unless they hate free speech.
@ecurb7 “…don't let some meaningless average dictate your opinions for you” Of course. There’s absolutely going to be personal preferences with anything. There’s probably a few people who loved Lord of the Rings: Gollum and Skull Island: Rise of Kong. In fact, I think it goes both ways. As in, don’t let a 6 /10 review score dissuade you if the game appeals to you. And also, if you really don’t have interest to play a highly rated 10/10 low budget indie darling, you shouldn’t feel guilted into playing it.
The mixed reception (although I would say it’s still leans positive rather than negative, Metacritic notwithstanding) of DA:V shouldn’t be enough to push someone away from trying it if it’s a game that interests them. There’s been similar online backlash, bordering on bullying, against other large AAA games where for some reason people have a weird crusade against the game (of course The Last of Us 2 comes to mind but certainly others). So I would propose just like people shouldn’t think a high metacritic score is the end-all of gospel truth on a game’s quality, one also shouldn’t let a vocal minority’s campaign to sully a game deter them. Either approach concedes independent thought and “dictates your opinions for you”.
In the case of DA:V, other than the Push Square review, the first impressions I heard were from a couple mates of mine who played it at launch and were very complimentary. To be fair, one of them dampened in his praise toward the mid-game, but the other who made it to completion was quite adulatory as apparently the game has a strong third act.
But I agree with you that there’s often a preconception of fans (on these polls anyway, which I predict will be heavily positive this month) that the measure of the PS+ offerings is proportional to the cost of the games on offer. And so I do agree with you that a $70 game that you’ll never play is worth less than a $20 game that you’ll play and enjoy. Sometimes people fail to recognize that. I just think for a lot of people this month that’s not necessarily the case and DA:V is not only an expensive AAA new game, but it’s also one they had their eye on.
They should offer compensation for DAV being included
@SterlingEyes it’s awesome on the PRO if you have one. The global illumination is gorgeous and all the RT
@The_Elder ok so to correct that...¨in my opinion we are getting a poor game¨
You stated it as a fact.
A potential "game of year" "AAA" release that bombed and was even shilled by Push Square now being given away by PS plus. Got it! 👍
@BolkaRover that is a fact. Look up the ratings the game received (user ratings, not paid shill reviewers).
@The_Elder yes it's called review bombing. Listen to the people in these comments. I'm not saying it's worth buying but it's free on ps plus. I assume you've played it then? 😄
Funny how when a game gets a lot of positive user reviews then it's a hit, but when the reviews are negative then suddenly it's "rEviEw bOmBiNg!1". And as I mentioned, it's not "free" if it's a paid subscription. I've seen enough reviews of this game to know it's a turd and I have no intention to play it. There are plenty of great games out there, no point wasting time on this one. I want Sony to include good games in the subscription, not ones that nobody wanted so Sony got it for cheap.
Jesus. I still don't want it in my library.
Veilguard looks like trash lmao
Just bought Dragon Age for $24 on Amazon...that's why they were dumping it.
Might still keep it due to increasing cost of Essential, might drop service someday.
Keeping eseencial only for the cloud saves at this point. The plus games werent great for the last year or two and now were getting Failguard :/
Thanks for sharing! I already own Sonic Colors physically, but will happily redeem it alongside the other two games.
Out of the 3 games, it or TMNT will be what I play first.
Unfortunately that does suggest that there won’t be another DA game. I’m sure people who haven’t tried it yet will enjoy it - it looks good and has great combat. I felt the dialogue was less good though, and each character’s arc seemed to end with a fairly inconsequential binary choice that you made on their behalf.
Heard about Dragon Age from a colleague at work today, but the other two games are also a nice surprise. This is a great month!
DA will be the first PS Plus title I don’t add to collection…
@The_Elder "And as I mentioned, it's not "free" if it's a paid subscription"
Yeah, you're the millionth person to mention it. And the rest of the world fully realizes that "free" in certain contexts means "at no additional cost". When you enter some clubs, you get a "free drink" after paying the entrance fee. When you book a hotel, sometimes you get a "free massage". When there is a promotion at a store, you pay for one and get one free, i.e. get the second one at no additional cost. The examples are endless.
As for review bombing, when you give a game that plays well a 1 or 0 out of 10 because you don't like the dialogue, then yes, you're most certainly review bombing it. Or when you give a movie a similar score because x actor/actress is starring in it. The best part is when you haven't even played the game, yet feel the need to review it. No decent game deserves a 1/10.
@ecurb7 or maybe people were interested in it, but not enough to buy it at launch. I mean, look at how many people said they bought it in the recent sale. I was also about to buy it, but wanted to beat some games from my backlog first. So, yes. For me and many others, this is truly insane.
I was commenting on the hyperbole - it's only a video game, for goodness' sake! To describe its inclusion on PS Plus as 'insane' or 'shocking' is ridiculous. Now, the meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy, that was insane and shocking...
Sweet, had dragon age on my wishlist was just waiting for good price drop and time to play, just need to find the time now 😁
@ecurb7 couldn't agree more on all points

I’m bummed I picked this up day one for $70 because I love the series, but the writing is so bad and cringeworthy constantly that I couldn’t get past 5 hours without putting it down for better games. I would’ve happily picked it up and played this through PS Plus though. These services can be great but also discourage full price purchases because of reasons like this.
@The_Elder not defending Dragon Age here but you are on the record with being happy with last months games.
It’s a subscription- there are going to be a lot of months you don’t like. If you like 2-3 games a year it pays for itself.
There are likely going to be millions of people that try Dragon Age as a result of it being on here…PlayStation isn’t going out of their way to hand pick games for you specifically.
On the one hand, it's 2 games I'm not particularly interested in, and a third that won't run on my PS4. On the other hand, I've heard that the incompatible one is gratingly preachy on certain political topics, so at least it's no loss, lol.
I think I have 1-2 months left in my subscription. Looks like the only thing I'll really miss is the ease of cloud backups, but I did fine relying on USB before.
@Ervin81 you know you don't have to pick a gender neutral character if you don't want to right?
Inclusivity is never a bad thing.
