For the longest time, when the topic of a sci-fi game from Naughty Dog came up before the reveal of Intergalactic, fans of the developer always seemed convinced the in-game comic from The Last of Us, titled Savage Starlight, would be its basis and adopt the name. The made-up series is advertised throughout The Last of Us, appearing as comic books and posters.
Of course, the theory was debunked upon the announcement of Intergalactic late last year, but as it turns out, fans were looking in the right place for a tease — to a degree, at least. Posted by fansite Naughty Dog World to Twitter, it has been noticed how, in what looks like The Last of Us expansion Left Behind, there's a small remark to spaceships and the term "intergalactic".
"Like one of those intergalactic giant spaceships with like two warp engines," is the full quote from the DLC. Of course, in the Intergalactic trailer, we see protagonist Jordan engage the two engines of her Porsche-themed spaceship to speed off towards a planet in the distance.
Naughty Dog began work on Intergalactic in 2020, so this doesn't appear to be a deliberate reference to the PS5 game made 10 years ago, but it is a fun quote to look back on now we know what the developer is working on. Could there be a twist and Savage Starlight is actually the sequel to Intergalactic, allowing the name to finally get some proper recognition? We'll need to pick out any possible references when we play Intergalactic — hopefully, that happens within the next two years.

After the announcement, I sort of felt Intergalactic might be Savage Starlight in all but name. It's clearly a concept that's been playing on Druckman's mind for a while, so it may very well be the same seed, which we saw planted in TLOU, that grew to become Intergalactic - even if they don't share a name.
I really enjoy this running trend of future ND properties being teased in older games, just as TLOU was in Uncharted 3.
By the way Liam, what did you mean by "Could there be a turn and Savage Starlight is the sequel?" i didn't quite follow that.
Creators have ideas often decades before they come to full fruition, I wouldn't put it past Neil sneaking in a throwaway line that might become an easter egg later IF the game in his head ever gets made.
@AK4tywill I meant "twist" there, expanded the sentence a little!

See, that’s why I wouldn’t be surprised if Intergalactic is a big 2025 title. If they’ve got the vision in line and know what they’re doing, 5 years is enough time to get a game out.
And before anyone argues otherwise, we’re expecting Ghost of Yotei this year too, aren’t we?
I still hold that Intergalactic is the result of Logic ingratiating himself with Neil Druckmann during the development of TLoU2.
Intergalactic is so obviously inspired by Logic's album, "The Incredible True Story," that it's not even funny.
@LiamCroft Ah, I see. That would be quite a novel reveal actually, especially if they play it coy in THH as to whether there's any relation, only to title (or subtitle) the sequel 'Savage Starlight". A sort of 'PT moment' +1.
I can already see the "always was" meme with the one astronaut about to execute the other.
@somnambulance Aye, but in direct sequels that immediately follow the first game, on the same architecture and/or engine, there's often a ton of asset/animation/mechanic/design work done already that can be brought over from the first game. With a new IP, a lot more has to be done from scratch.
I really wouldn't expect this sooner than 2026.
The Savage Starlight comic book series in TLOU was also hinted as a possible next franchise for Naughty Dog. I suppose this was kind of true.
@AK4tywill I have no idea when I expect it, but it also very well may use the same engine as well. I don’t expect the game this year, just wouldn’t be surprised. It really depends on how much they’re throwing into it and how well it’s coming together. Sony’s first party studios have demonstrated that they can be the most organized and efficient in the business, after all.
It's possible. iirc TloU got hinted in Uncharted 3 with an in-game newspaper headline showing cordyceps virus. So Savage Starlight could be a concept for Intergalactic.
I always saw Starlight as a story that while juxtaposed in style (aka. a space adventure vs the grim reality of life), it mirrored TLOU storyline, beat for beat.
I'm sure Naughtydog floated the idea of having a space adventure IP when they brainstormed a number of new IPs to supersede Uncharted... Starlight might have been one of them, but didn't sound as good as TLOU.
Is Intergalactic a fleshed out Starlight... Unlikely.
Is Starlight a failed space IP but with a use... Probably.
Is Intergalactic a better space concept and fleshed out IP... I'd say so.
Intergalactic will not come out in 2025 if GTA5 does!
No one wants that smoke
