Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Paramount

SEGA, a subsidiary of parent company SEGA Sammy Holdings, has published its financial results for the nine months ending 31st December 2024, in which it cancelled Football Manager 25. Despite an 88% increase in profit for its Entertainment Contents Division (attributed in part to the success of the film Sonic the Hedgehog 3), net sales were down 8.1% overall, year-over-year, resulting in revenue of $2.1 billion.

GamesIndustry.biz sifted through the numbers, and SEGA Sammy says that part of the reason for this decline in net sales is the sale of Amplitude Studios in November 2024. The firm recorded a loss of $40 million after the developer purchased its independence.

That's despite the best efforts of Metaphor: ReFantazio and Sonic X Shadow Generations, both released in October 2024 and major earners for the firm. We imagine SEGA will continue with its transmedia mandate moving forward, as it sees a direct link between the success of both Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic X Shadow Generations.
