Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is one of the greatest kart racers ever made, up there with Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. There’s enthusiasm around Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, then, which was announced for the PS5 and PS4 at The Game Awards last year.
And with Sony assisting SEGA on the marketing for Sonic X Shadow Generations, it looks like the pair could be set to rekindle their relationship during today’s State of Play.
As spotted by our friends at Nintendo Life, in the immediate aftermath of the livestream’s announcement, Sonic Team producer Joel Youkhanna said on social media: “Oh look, a new State of Play. #KnowingSmile” He’s since deleted the post.
Since then, some alleged screenshots have leaked online, which we won’t reproduce here. But their emergence certainly seems to suggest that some new information is imminent, and when you combine Youkhanna’s comments with the images, it all seems to point to a State of Play appearance, doesn’t it?
Of course, we’ll need to wait for the show to know for sure. Personally, if you’ll allow us to dream for a moment, we’d love to see updates on all SEGA’s upcoming projects, including Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi. But that may be a bit too much hype for your average State of Play, so we’ll settle for a new Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds trailer.

Honestly, after the disappointment of Team Sonic Racing, I'd prefer a remaster of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.
One less game locked away in the PS3-era dungeon.
Why not reboot Sonic R. Sure going back to that game now is not as fun because if the controls but it could be amazing. It at least makes more sense to have the fastest hedgehog alive run instead of sitting in a slower car.
Technically Team Sonic Racing was OK-ish but nowhere near as much fun as Sonic and Sega All-Stars, both the original and Transformed. Great track designs, fun weapons (not forgetting some memorable All-Star specials) and it looked like an arcade game, even on the PS3.
Nice to see Sega are keeping to their promise of keeping the old stager going on appropriate games too
Failure to mention Mario Kart Double Dash as one of the goats hurts my very soul.
With Sony back to helping saga with marketing there's hope Persona 6 could be shown, I know I'm being over optimistic here but one can dream.
@Oram77
And Diddy Kong Racing it whatever it was called.
If it’s like Team Sonic Racing then I’m not really bothered about it.
Remaster Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing and Sega All Stars Racing Transformed
Weird to see Sega going back to partnership with Sony when last year they're in bed with MS for Yakuza 8, P3 Reload, and Metaphor exclusives marketing that doesn't show any PS logo.
@PuppetMaster Strange how they didn't put the latest games on gamepass either, seems that partnership has ended.
@UltimateOtaku91 Yeah I wonder what happened...
Sonic Riders was so much better aesthetically than some overdone karts.
Saw a leak of CrossWorlds where a Sonic Riders Overboard was show, seems like we will get Sonic Riders gameplay in CrossWorlds.
While I’ll take whatever they are working on, I wish Sumo could remaster or make a sequel to Outrun 2006 Coast to Coast. Even if it just meant editing the cars enough to make Barraris. Haha.
Such a great game.
I disagree, All-Stars Racing: Transformed is BETTER than Mario Kart 8: Deluxe and Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled. The former is an enhanced edition of the Wii-U original, and Nitro Fueled doesn't have the spark of innovation that All-Stars Racing: Transformed has.
