Until Dawn is already a playable teen slasher movie, so we weren’t always sure how its big screen adaptation was going to stand out. But credit where credit’s due: this is a really creative take on the Supermassive Games favourite.
Think of this like Cabin in the Woods meets Groundhog Day. Basically, the cast are living the same day over and over; each time they die, they’re brought back to life to face a fresh threat.
While a linear film can obviously never capture the “choose your own adventure” aspect of the main game, this at least brings an element of branching paths into the narrative, as the hapless teens try to break free from the cycle of their recurring demises.
Visually it all looks a bit amateur, but the original game was schlocky and silly, so we’re hoping this finds a similar kind of vibe.
Honestly, while this one could go either way, don’t be surprised if it ends up being moderately successful. These horror movies are generally quite cheap to produce, and the concept looks fun enough to lure in casual movie goers. This might just work.

Sheesh... that thumbnail is creepy. The time loop is probably the best way to go about adapting the source material.
@PorkChopExpress "Current" 🤣🤣🤣
I think it looks quite cool but the ending is something om really looking forward too.
This film looks like it’ll be in tier with Sony’s Spider-Man spin-off films. I say this as someone that likes Supermassive Games. The Until Dawn game had a higher level of star power than the film, which seems sort of strange.
Huge horror fan - love the look of this but as usual with the horror genre, you rarely know if the film is good until the last half hour 😂 it usually ends up falling apart at the final hurdle.
Cinematography and everything looks nice. Sufficiently creepy bodysuits used (...in combination with CGI - at least there some physicality). Actors seem well suited. Time loop idea fits in well with the source material. Fingers crossed, eh? 🤞
@somnambulance nah, those movies were bad concept, bad delivery. This at least is a good concept. We'll see about the delivery.
Also, yes Until Dawn had some crazy star power. How they managed Rami Malek still baffles me. At least Peter Stormare is returning
@ProfessorNiggle Until Dawn may be the only game sans Kojima where I played it and I knew who 75% of the cast was. It truly felt like a blockbuster film.
The film version looks low budget, but made with nice cameras if that makes sense.
I expect it’ll be more fun than the Spider Spin-offs at least. Peter Stormare could likely hold the film on his own.
On the 25th April I will be playing Days Gone Remastered and then in the evening I will be watching Until Dawn at the cinema. That should quench my thirst for blood for a short while... Mwahaha!
i'm surprised that super massives new game was at state of play but they haven't revealed the firesprite horror title ( rumored until dawn successor/sequel ) yet. btw the their new supermassive horror game looks so good.
Much better second trailer. I think I will give this a chance.
What? Haha...they should have made multiple versions playing at the same time in the theatre, and audience members have to run to different screens depending on how they want the story to unfold!
I dunno why it’s coming out in April, it would probably be a pretty big hit at Halloween.
@somnambulance I agree I’m only holding out hope due to the concept. But I don’t like how drab the colours and cinematography looks.
I want to go back to when the game released. It felt like such a big production
