With its 20th March release date fast approaching, Ubisoft's marketing machine for Assassin's Creed Shadows is now in full flow — as evidenced by this lengthy 20-minute gameplay walkthrough.
The footage manages to cover just about everything. Both protagonists — Naoe and Yasuke — get plenty of screentime, as they engage in stealthy infiltration as well as bloody violence.
Some really nice environments are also on show, which change with the game's all-new seasons system. We're left wondering just how much a location can be altered depending on time of year.
Our biggest takeaway, though, is that Shadows looks very polished on PS5 — which is probably a result of the game's multiple delays. Remember, this thing was originally targeting a November 2024 launch, and so the developer's spent months smoothing out the experience.
Indeed, the title's suite of graphical settings suggest that this is the case. On both PS5 and PS5 Pro, the available options seem to cover every preference.

It does look very polished. There’s been a few AC games that the lack of polish detracts from otherwise brilliant games (Unity and Syndicate most of all) so I’m hoping the game manages to balance ambition with polish.
I'm still excited for this but I'm not thrilled with the 2 character system. Particularly the fact that Yasuke can't parkour and climb well. To me that is the bare minimum an AC character should be able to do.
Imagine a AAA game launching as a finished, polished product for once!
@Ralizah We just have to start convincing publishers to delay their games not once, but twice.
@ShogunRok publishers need to stop giving themselves unrealistic launch dates. Just announce launch dates when you know the game is ready. I would say "complete" but no game ever is anymore.
I really want this to be good. The combination of setting and gameplay has potential. The bloodiness is a good sign as well.
I haven’t brought an assassins game since odyssey. But I’m such a sucker for samurai stuff. They need to get it out quick before you know what drops
An Ubisoft game thats completely polished before release?? It's a (late) Christmas miracle!
Might have been the setting but I couldn’t get into mirage. Hopefully this one clicks.
I do genuinely want to play this, which is something I haven't said about an AC game since Origins. The setting is the biggest thing for me.
Looks fantastic!
I know I can turn it off these days, but why do they always have controls permanently on-screen by default? And the location name just floating up there.
Game looks really good though. Immersive mode is a great idea.
Outstanding graphics and runs smooth, but again reminded me why this is not for me.
My personal peeves:
Some of it may be due to difficulty settings, but as shown, this is too shallow for me.
It does look good and I really do want it to be good. The screen still feels overly cluttered compared to Ghost of Tsushima which has much more of a cinematic feel, whereas this does look to be another assassins creed game (for better or worse). But I think this will be alot of fun. Just get rid of yellow paint!
Looks really good. Actually pre-ordered it today as its pay day.
I want to be interested for the setting alone, but it just looks so uninspired and the same tired formula. The yasuke gameplay looks terrible.
Hopefully there is something appealing and refreshing about it aside from the gameplay. The AC franchise was built on story. Starting with black flag they just completely abandoned that premise in favor of boardroom designed map marker chasing.
Clicked on the vid, saw the Detective Vision™, clicked off. Gaming has moved on.
@TicklefistCP lol why do you keep clicking on articles about this game? Then you express how you have no interest in the game? You sure do seem every interested to post about how you’re not interested. 🤷🏾♂️
@AhmadSumadi You must be confusing me with someone else.
@Coffeeglitch I think it'll do well. I'm interested to see, have you changed your mind on this? Or you think it won't be enough?
@Vovander for me the worst thing in gaming is when an enemy is doing their walking/idle animation then snap into some different position because you pressed the kill button. Wish kill animations have evolved from the days of 2005 with amazing motion matching tech, but no where to be seen.
@ProfessorNiggle agree! This jarred me most in the first aerial kill - an abrupt cut which felt like about 5 seconds worth of animations were missing.
@Vovander TLOU Part II might be the only game I've seen to execute kill animations so well. So specific and so many people don't care but I love that attention to detail
People, let's wait, AS USUAL, for the reviews and do not preorder anything!
@ProfessorNiggle I’ve definitely changed my opinion on it, the recent showcases are looking very polished and very enjoyable. I’m not expecting a massive all time great but it looks good enough to justify a day one buy for me. I’m glad they’ve taken the approach of less talking, more showing.
@Coffeeglitch above all it looks fun. And looks like that Yasuke not being able to do much compared to Naoe was addressed quite well in this video.
@ProfessorNiggle Yep. As I’ve gotten older I’ve grown out of some of the more complex and/or difficult games. There’s more satisfaction in real life challenges over games these days, so I just want to relax above all.
@Coffeeglitch couldn't have said it better myself!
