Polish publisher and developer CD Projekt Red has just released its financial results for 2024, and incredibly, it's the outfit's third-best ever in terms of net profit, despite having no major releases.
GamesIndustry.biz went over the numbers, and compared to 2023, CDPR saw a 17.9% drop in sales, from $310 million to $254 million. Net profit dropped 2.3%, from $124 million to $121.5 million, which isn't too shabby, all things considered.
Cyberpunk 2077 and its expansion Phantom Liberty were the main reasons for this continued largesse, accounting for $155 million in sales between the two. As of November 2024, Cyberpunk had sold over 30 million copies, with Phantom Liberty passing the eight million mark.
CFO Piotr Nielubowicz said of the feat: "Both of our franchises wrapped up an excellent year. Naturally, the results of CD Projekt are primarily driven by sales of Cyberpunk 2077 [and Phantom Liberty]."
Are you surprised to see CD Projekt doing so well in a down year without significant releases? How about those Cyberpunk numbers? Did you ever expect the game to sell so well? Let us know in the comments section below.

It's quite miraculous how they've turned Cyberpunk 2077 around to be one of the best open world games on the market. And Phantom Liberty was absolutely sublime 👌🏻 Just goes to show that if you don't shutter your studio and just fix your mess-of-a-game, it can be good and make money. No Man's Sky another wonderful example.
If anything Witcher 4 might hinder profits
Elsewhere they've also got breakdowns of platform splits and physical media versus digital media.
The majority of their sales for The Witcher are on PC (43%) followed by playstation (38%) in 2024. You can see the absolute collapse of Xbox - they had 23% of Witcher 3 sales in 2015 and only 8% by 2024.
When the Witcher 3 launched in 2015, 21% of it's consoles sales were digital. When Cyberpunk launched in 2020, 75% of it's consoles sales were digital.
Three caveats to the last one 1) It was 2020, so COVID, way less people going to stores 2) This doesn't count people who bought second hand copies 3) Console sales were terrible generally at launch because the game ran terribly
Not surprised at all. Bought it for my steam deck as I am away for a few months. But already have it on PS. And already rebought Witcher 3 for similar reasons. Some games for me are annually replayable.
@Balie3000 The difference between 2077 and No Man's Sky as opposed to most of the other dreck that releases broken is that these games had genuine hype and excitement behind them and thus people were willing to give them another chance.
Most crap games do not get a second chance no matter how much time and effort you pump into them.
@heavyartillery56 How? This is an awful take.
I just got platinum for Cyperpunk the other weekend, and yeah the game is a 10/10, really glad I never got it in the first year because of all the bugs. Just imagine how well the game could of done if they did not rush it out of the door. Witcher 4 is more than likely going to be GOTY when it comes out.
I mean it's the only game that's close to scratching that GTAVI itch. My V bought a Quadra yesterday feels so good.
@Oram77 It's a 10 our of 10 for sure. One of the best games of the generation for me. I have no doubts that The Witcher IV is going to be spectacular.
@TheArt The first person aspect combined with a character creator and RPG elements make it way more immersive than GTA. It's 'your' V. (There's also a few other things that GTA does better, of course.)
@Herculean GTAV has first person btw. I'm fine with CP2077 being 1st but would've been cool to have 3rd too so we can see our V's attire. Personally no game is as immersive as Rockstar's games though.
Currently playing Cyberpunk, probably about two thirds of the way through and have completed the DLC. I think its fantastic, would give it 10/10. Night City must be one of the best environments in a game ever.
Not great news, IMO. One lesson that CDPR could take away from the whole Cyberpunk 2077 affair is (a) invest in marketing; (b) release minimum viable product, make loads of cash in pre-orders and on Day 1; (c) fix it later, benefit from even more positive coverage about the redemption arc.
I'm not saying that the game isn't great now or that they haven't done an amazing job in fixing it post launch - I've not played it yet.
To quote George W Bush: "There's an old saying in Tennessee - I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee - that says, fool me once, shame on - shame on you. Fool me - you can't get fooled again." Hopefully gamers will have learned their lesson and be far more sceptical of Witcher 4, etc, and wait for reviews, but I doubt it.
It’s really something that they really aren’t going to add a Pro Patch for Cyberpunk 2077 👀
@TheArt Oh, right. I never played that game after release, to be honest. 2013, it's been a while since then!
My opinion, but I don’t see gta6 topping cyberpunk for me. CP2077 2.0 and phantom liberty are one of my all time favorite game experiences. And that’s from someone who is very burnt out on massive games.
honestly i would love second DLC i would buy it now.
