Hanafuda is a traditional Japanese card game dating all the way back to the early 1800s, but it’s getting a modern face lift courtesy VTuber agency Hololive.
Hololive Holo’s Hanafuda is an upcoming PS5 and PS4 game scheduled to release worldwide, which promises “a modern take” on a timeless classic.
An overview explains: “In addition to hanafuda’s traditional rule systems – Koi-Koi, Oicho-Kabu, and Hana Awase – this game also features an original gameplay mode called Holo Awase. That makes for a total of four different playable rule sets with which you can battle your opponents both online and offline!”

For those curious, Holo Awase will see you matching Hololive characters to complete sets and then unleashing corresponding skills.
The game’s due out globally on 31st July, and you can check out a brief trailer embedded above.

I wonder if anyone from the EN branch will be in it. Wishful thinking probably.
Enjoy the games enough in Yakuza, but can’t say I’m too excited for a standalone version.

Nice artwork on those cards, but I can never figure out how to play these games in Yakuza.
