It’s been over a year since the last GTA 6 trailer, and while the game is supposedly due out later this year, we still don’t know a whole lot about it.
Rockstar has spooked the entire industry, as many publishers are scared to date their software should they have to go head-to-head with the open world juggernaut.
Asked about why the developer is being so coy in an interview with Bloomberg, Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick implied that it’s keeping its cards close to its chest until the title’s almost ready to release.
“The anticipation for that title [is] maybe the greatest anticipation I’ve ever seen for an entertainment property,” he boasted. “And I’ve been around the block a few times and I’ve been in every entertainment business there is.
“We want to maintain the anticipation and the excitement. And we do have competitors who will describe their release schedule for years in advance. And we found that the better thing to do is to provide marketing materials relatively close to the release window in order to create that excitement on the one hand and balance the excitement with unmet anticipation.
“We don’t always get it exactly right, but that’s what we trying to do.”
This implies to us that there’s going to be an avalanche of GTA 6 information towards the latter half of the year, as the game gears up for its holiday release date.
However, there has been speculation the title could be delayed, so it all depends on what’s going on within Rockstar right now.
Clearly the release is relatively close now, but it doesn’t look like we’re going to get the blowout we crave until the game’s just a few months away.

I hope they delay the game to add a 3rd playable character. So far GTA 6 looks like a massive step back from 5.
@heavyartillery56 step back? Sheesh
There is no word about a PS3 version of the game even though GTA V released on that platform without any issues. Nevertheless, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
I hope it has a 60fps mode. I don't want to play a game in 30fps in 2025.
*It's been a 1.5 year since GTA 6 trailer
*6 months until GTA 6 game drop window
Considering his words if they didn't get their trailer leaked before ,they would have held it back until about May. Would have saved them money as now they had to craft a whole second trailer which is probably done and burried somewhere in a flash on a desk behind a pile of corporal data sheets.
@GigaGaia if it has 60 FPS mode it probably looks like a potato sub 1080p with upscaling
@Czar_Khastik 😂 I have played all 3 versions now and not finished any of them 🤣. I didn’t like the characters in five 🤷🏻♂️, I’m finally glad there is a female character in gta shocked it took them this long.
@heavyartillery56 lol wut. GTA 6 will be the most advanced video game ever
I agree that holding back on marketting is a good idea. Don't let the hype train get to full speed until it's close to it's destination, because the longer it spends at top speed the more likely it is to go out of control and end up off the rails. And that's a great way to have a dissapointing launch.
@heavyartillery56 if amount of playable characters equates to game quality to you, then maybe stick to beat em ups.
They could shadow drop it tonight and it will still 20M+ copies within 12 hours.
@heavyartillery56 One trailer that revealed nothing but yes step back 😂😂😂
I'm very curious to see how GTA 6 navigates the current heightened state of idiocy and insanity in America. Considering the long development period I think this game will be outdated on release which is a shame as for me it is GTA's best aspect - it's biting satire of American culture.
I'd at least appreciate a PC release window or performance expectations on PS5 Pro so I can prepare accordingly. I'm not playing it until there is a 60fps option nonetheless - it's 2025 after all.
@Greifchen definitely not true. Rockstar was never at the cutting edge of game tech - impressive as previous GTA titles were, you could frequently find better graphics and mechanics etc in other titles. What's impressive with GTA are the little details and immersion factor for a game of it's scale relating to American culture in the various fictionalized settings. In this regard it's unparalleled.
I’m just ready for the GTA hype cycle to be over with, so we can get back to business as usual. I’m looking forward to the game, sure, but the way it is affecting the industry at large since its first trailer is obnoxious. I literally can’t stand the small marketing window mentality of the industry right now and the rumors that GTA6 will increase game prices in the industry doesn’t help either. It just sort of messes with my OCD, you know?
All this says to me is that you’re not confident in your release date.
@somnambulance I agree, in all my years of gaming I have never been less hyped for the industry than what I am right now.
Silence does not get me hyped, but in the last 15 years, it’s what the gamers pushed the industry to change too. I remember seeing a lot of people saying quit showing games early quit showing previews. Quit giving release windows just be quiet about it until the game releases, and the businesses listened.
@Czar_Khastik Same here. Though, ever since sold my 7th gens I'll just have to settle for a Netflix edition.🤞
Zelnick rarely steers the firm in the wrong direction, so I’m glad to see nothing has changed. Same happened with Borderlands, revealed the fourth entry and then say “coming later this year!”. Awesome to see this trend coming from such a major company, hopefully others follow suit. I love Bethesda but…you know.
@somnambulance The way it’s causing a total blackout on the second half of the year, which would otherwise be building into a huge year for variety of game releases you mean…
Not like they need to. Going to sell a ton anyway.
@Totheteeth @OmegaStriver I much prefer the pre-COVID way of marketing in the industry. I think I peaked in my personal hype in 2019. I remember planning out my gaming early in the year and I was buying two games a month. I knew what was coming out and knew that I needed to budget time and money appropriately. I worked six days a week at my job at the time and I have a family, but I was able to figure things out. I liked that.
Here we are in 2025, and honestly, six years later, I feel like I’m interested in far fewer games, purchasing much less, and I never quite know what I’m going to play next, as I never know if something will surprise release, so I hold off on games sometimes when I would’ve preordered them in the past.
The strategy the industry is using is actually reducing my spend, and I’ve noticed I’ve got friends that aren’t buying games anymore either. Rebirth was the last game that I saw all my friends rally around at release. Death Stranding and MGS Delta are preordered by my whole group, but I mean, my group used to share top 10 lists at end of year. Last year was the first year that didn’t happen in like 20 years and that was largely because a little more than half ny friends hadn’t played ten 2024 releases.
I’m sure GTA6 will be bought by my whole friend group too, but I do wonder how many more games we’d all be buying and playing this year if not for GTA6. I mean, even to use other AAA games as an example, I can see people holding out on the new Mafia game because GTA is coming and they’ve got some similarities.
As for me, I’m super grateful Switch 2 is coming because Nintendo’s going to pretend to be oblivious to GTA6.
@OmegaStriver Not confident? Heh this the same approach they used with RDR2 and look how that turned out.
Am I the only one who is sick of hearing about GTA6?? It's been almost 12 damn years since they released the last one. Just release as trailer and announce a date. That way we can stop all these nothing stories and guesswork until it releases.
My first thought was…..the title was wrong! They mean PS6!
Will be release when ...its done. When release! Get over it
Does no-one else on this site see his blatant mocking of Sony and the way they make PlayStation announcements?
Or am I blind?
I guarantee GTA 6 will never get the sales numbers that GTA 5 had. And a majority of the game sales were in the first few weeks. But much of the money Rockstar made has been from the GTA online. Still is debatable whether GTA 6 or Star Citizen will go gold first.
As I keep saying, I’m adamant it’s 2026 for this one.
Really have to play GTAV soon it seems ...
Is it just me with losing interest in this game?..All this hype and still nothing to show for it. Just makes them seem arrogant
There is no way this game will cover the insane hype over it. It’s absurd
@somnambulance I get what you're saying in terms of how the release of GTA VI is holding up a lot of other devs from wanting to promote/release games around it, but I'd much prefer smaller marketing windows over showing trailers and then having to wait 3-5 years before even playing the game
@optic_efun11 I’d like a happy medium of announcing games 1-2 years early with a release window that feels accurate for the team. It really feels like the release schedule jumps off a cliff after Death Stranding 2 (and even with that one and Doom, May and June are still relatively quiet months). I want to be able to plan the next year of gaming when I do my taxes, basically.
@somnambulance Yea I'd say that's a pretty solid amount of time! I think I personally just land on the fence of doing it closer to release if possible, but see where you're coming from. I just picked up AC Shadows and wonder if I'll have to cram that in before Ghost of Yotei because you never know if it'll get hit with a surprise quick release lol
@optic_efun11 That’s what I’m saying! I almost held off from Shadows because I was concerned about Yotei’s release. I mean, I cancelled my preorder for Shadows because Yotei was announced. But then I ended up buying Shadows anyway because… I haven’t played anything else this year, basically, so it’s something in the meantime! And I’m 20 hours in and I know I’ll drop it if there’s another game I like more that comes out. But… I don’t know if there’s anything 100% that might take me off AC til May as the current release schedule is.
